Location description from owner

The England region

Located in the beautiful open countryside, close to Glastonbury, the property enjoys magnificent views of the hills. Nearby Longleat safari park offers a unique day out, driving in and amongst the lions and rhinos. Whilst for the architecturally minded, the World Heritage Site of Bath and, Wells the smallest city in England with its beautiful Cathedral, are within a short driving distance. The area also boasts such attractions as Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole caves, The Fleet Air Arm Museum and Haynes Motor Museum.

Pylle

Glastonbury is famous for it's ancient history. Joseph of Arimathea (Jesus' great uncle) visited Glastonbury following Jesus' death and legend has it that this was the resting place for the holy grail. A few centuries after this King Arthur was buried at the foot of Glastonbury Tor (Avalon) and legend has it he still roams around the Abbey ruins! Either way, Glastonbury is a hive for spirituality and an alternative way of life. One visit to the town will make this abundantly obvious. It does have a great deal of charm though and of course all the necessary amenities. The area is probably best known for Glastonbury Festival which is a couple of miles from the property. The surrounding fields offer a host of walking routes if you are feeling active. If not, just relax and go to the spa or light the wood burner and put your feet up, soak in the private massaging hot tub.

“What a wonderful 6 days, exceptional place, exceeded all our expectations”

Reviewed 13 Apr 2016

Stayed at Lower Hedge Farm 2nd April to 8th April, we were a large group of 12, 5 adults, 2 17 year olds, 5 kids aged 10 - 15 years old & 3 small dogs !! The house was wonderful, huge kitchen (with Aga) huge cosy living area, another separate dining room & living area, bedrooms were more than adequate, ensuites with 3 of them. The loft room was a kids paradise, they loved having their own space & ensuite !! The added bonuses were the large hot tub, BBQ, use of the Sedum Spa (extra cost, but well worth it !) & the amount of lovely space outside, views over fields & our sheep neighbours !! All in all we all had a fabulous 6 days & were quite lucky with the weather. We would highly recommend a stay here & I'm sure we will be making a return visit !! Thank you Lower Hedge Farm & thank you Paul, it was great !!

Hi Tracy, Thank you for such a fabulous review of Lower Hedge Farm and The Sedum Spa. We are so glad to hear you all had such a great stay. We're also happy to hear you had good weather to get outside and use the BBQ. It would be a pleasure to have you stay again and look forward to seeing you in the future. Best regards, Kerry & The Woodlands Retreats Team

“Lovely space for a big group”

Reviewed 5 Feb 2016

I love staying here, I stay here with work colleagues for our annual creative workshop/training weekend but I always say, wouldn't this be great for a big family or a group of friends. It has two ovens (handy), a hot tube (ok if you're friendly with your colleagues) and lovely bedrooms. We asked Ocado to deliver all the food there which was great! The owners are so nice and left us to it. I would totally stay here again. You can even see the Torr on a good day. Not too far from a country pub either but I would recommend you bring your own drinks, cheaper that way. Katy

Hi Katy, thank you for staying with us once again, we do appreciate you choosing us for your annual weekend away and are really pleased that it suits your group so well. We look forward to seeing you all again soon. Paul & the team.

Stayed at Lower Hedge Farm for the weekend. Fabulous place to stay. Plenty of room for all ages and the dogs, we had 3 with us. My grandchildren had the games room to play music as loud as they wanted we didn't hear a thing. Everything you need is there and more. Very warm and cosy with plenty of hot water. The aga in the kitchen was great to cook on with an electric cooker if you needed it. Very clean and a nice gesture of a basket of local cider for us on arrival. Although we didn't need to call them the owners were available at the end of the phone. It was a special birthday weekend and the farmhouse was the ideal setting for a relaxing enjoyable family get together.

Thank you for your glowing review of Lower Hedge Farm, It is a great space for a family get together, special birthday weekend, hen party, or just a good catch up. We hope to see you back again in the future for more special birthdays. Many thanks Ed and The Woodlands Retreats Team

“Beautiful house and beautiful gardens”

Reviewed 3 Aug 2015

Amazing place. Loved the kitchen as we could get quite a few people in there helping out with meals etc. Bedrooms were a great size and the bathrooms very clean and even well set out. Bathroom on the first floor has a huge bath, more like a swimming pool, Absolutely loved it! Grounds were beautiful, if you are looking to get away from it all and not see anyone else then this place is for you. Its right down the end of a single track road so you wont see anyone else at all. Games room was a bit damp and musty but as the weather was great we only spent a few hrs one night in there. Hot tub was a God Send, meant we could all bundle in and have a chill after a fast paced day exploring. House is fully equipped with everything you could want. We were a large party of South Africans and Zimbabweans and we like to braai (BBQ), so when we noticed on arriving that there weren't any braai utensils, Ed from the managing company went straight out and returned an hr later with what we needed :) The overall presentation of the place was very well thought of, lots of room for big families and enough room to have some chill quiet time if that's what you need. If going in the summer then I would recommend taking or buying a fan. All our family sleep with a fan on so we all bought one along, good job as those bedrooms do get quite hot, We also had our 18 month old daughter in our room and having that on for her was essential. WIFI was a bit sketchy. We were in bedroom 2 and we couldn't get signal/access in there. However this wasn't an issue as we found the best place was by the breakfast bar right next to the router or just generally in the kitchen or the cosy lounge. Overall this place is fabulous and hard to find major serious fault with, I would definitely want to go back and would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Thank you for a fabulous review. It sounds like you had a fantastic time. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the house and Ed saved the day with the Braai utensils! Hopefully we will see you again in the future. Kindest regards, Kerry and the Woodlands Retreats Team.

“Easter Weekend”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2015

Good relaxing weekend. Excellent facilities throughout. Very quite and tranquil place. You feel like you are in a different world. Dont see anyone given its location at the end of the road which is ideal for privacy. The jacuzzi can only go to 39 degrees max. They should have go higher! Would highly recommend! L

Thank you for your positive review, we're so pleased you had a good Easter break and you enjoyed the tranquil surroundings of Lower Hedge Farm. 39 degrees is indeed as hot as the hot tub will go which should be more than warm enough - I'm afraid you'd have to jump in the bath to go hotter! We hope to see you again sometime. Paul & the team.

We stayed at Lower Hedge Farm for Christmas week. It was the perfect venue for extended family to get together with lots of space for the kids to run round. Kids & adults all enjoyed the hot tub and the spa, just a short drive away.

We are pleased to hear that you all enjoyed your Christmas stay at Lower Hedge Farm. We look forward to hearing from you again in the future. Kind regards, Paul & The Woodlands Retreats Team.

“Great way to celebrate my mums 60th”

Reviewed 8 Dec 2014

We stayed here as a family group of 12 to celebrate my mums 60th Birthday. It was a wonderfully relaxing and peaceful weekend and something my mum will hopefully treasure forever. The logistics of booking the accommodation, finding the venue and regularly staying in touch with the company we booked with were very simple and a hassle free experience. We were met at the property and shown all of the essentials. It was a refreshing change to be treated like responsible adults and trusted to respect the property rather than read the rule book about using the property. The property itself was gorgeous in a lovely setting with access to local amenities and country walks. With hindsight, planning the walks a little better with more than the routes provided by the venue would have made it easier but getting lost is part of a good walk right? The games room delivered great fun for all with the darts, pool & table tennis and the hot tub was the perfect setting to end both evenings. The kitchen was not only fully equipped but had a number of cupboard items (e.g. Worcester sauce) that meant we could cater for ourselves really well all weekend. Sainsbury's delivered to the house with no problems at all. The creature comforts of sky tv and internet were also present (although we tried not to use these). Given everybody seeks out wifi the moment they arrive anywhere these days, 12 people on the wifi did make the internet access a little challenging but nothing that caused many frustrations All in all, it was a challenge to find a cottage that allowed 12 adults and their family dogs to stay for a weekend but we were all super pleased with what we got

Thank you for your in depth review, we're really pleased you had a good weekend for such a special occasion. Paul & the team.
