Location description from owner

The Famagusta District

From Blue Flag beaches to secluded coves, basket-weaving villages to the ghost town of Famagusta, this region is really the hidden gem of Cyprus.

Known for its fertile red soil and photogenic windmills, Famagusta District retains its old charming identity whilst being thoroughly modern. The working town of Paralimni offers a selection of hypomarkets, up market shops, bars and restaurants. Step into a different world 10 minutes drive away in Potamas - a fishing village where you can still see the fishermen land the catch of the day.

Further afield, visit Nicosia, a bustling capital with its incongruous occupied Turkish territory. Cross the border into Northern Cyprus and see time stand still in the beautiful town of Kyrenia. Or retreat from the heat in the stunning Trodos mountains - refreshing in the summer and snow-capped in the winter. How many other destinations could offer you sunbathing in the morning and skiing in the afternoon?

For golf enthusiasts, the best courses are currently a couple of hours away, near Paphos.

There are tennis courts at the nearby hotels - you can also enjoy their facilities (pools, children's playgrounds etc)

And of course most of the beaches offer all kinds of watersports, from jet skis, parasailing, banana boats and other thrill-seeking inflatables to the leisurely peddle boats with slides (great fun for the young ones!)

The needs of holiday makers and the area's natural beauty make this area truly special. So whatever type of holiday you're looking for (beach, bird watching, watersports, snorkelling and scuba diving, bar culture, cycling, walking) you'll find this a super base.

And if you're feeling really adventurous you can even take a day trip to Egypt and see the Great Pyramids!

Protaras

If you've never been to Pernera then we think you've been missing out. It's a laid back family area with some of the best golden sand beaches in Cyprus.

The villa is off a side road from the main loop through Pernera - just moments from the beach and equidistant to the famous Knights Bar, the Windmills resort (with its beauty salon, diving booth, regular movie and sports nights).

La Cultura de Gusto, voted Cyprus' best restaurant and the uber cool Blue Spice restaurant are nearby. The latter is at the beginning of a new board walk which links to Protoras.

Conveniently, there are two well-stocked supermarkets with extended opening hours at the entrance of Crystal Lagoon and free shuttle bus service to the Protoras branch of LIDL which departs every 30 minutes from the Windmills hotel at the end of the street (operating hours are 9am-1pm and 3pm-6.30pm).

From the villa it's a two minute stroll into Pernera's main street or Kalamies Beach (also known as Louma) - a fantastic, child-friendly Blue Flag enclosed beach with shallow water. With soft sand, gentle waters and even a playground when the little ones (and dads!) tire of building sandcastles, it is one of the best family beaches in the area. The snorkeling is great here too - on a recent trip we spotted rays and octopus.

Kalamies beach has a superb restaurant with whitewashed terraces and a picture-postcard white church where you may be lucky enough to see a wedding or family celebration taking place.

Stroll around the bay and you've arrived at the beautiful harbour of Pernera, where you may catch a glimpse of a fisherman mending his nets. Here you can take several types of boat trips, including glass bottomed boat cruises to Famagusta, fishing cruises and guided snorkelling tours.

While Pernera has plenty of night life, you're just a 20 minute stroll along the rugged coastline to Protoras and it's dancing fountains and crowded McDonalds. There is plenty to do here - mini golf, Elvis Presley nights and an open air cinema. Fifteen minutes by taxi gets you to Ayia Napa, an old fishing port now expanded to cater to all manner of entertainment including the infamous 'strip', a bar and club lined boulevard. We recommend the Ayia Napa waterpark and a boat trip on the 'Black Pearl' - a mock up of the ship from Pirates of the Carribean - cheesy but great fun.

The natural beauty of Cape Grecko, a 10 minute car journey from the villa, is a world away from the busy sands of Ayia Napa. Here you can enjoy one of the best places to view the sunset in Cyprus. It's one of the prime migration points of the island - flamingoes are regulars. The nearby Konnos Beach is favoured for its livelier waves and its exclusive location.

The Waterpark in Protaras is a big hit with the kids, especially little ones who are too small for Ayia Napa's waterpark rides.

A short stoll along the coast is the Ocean Aquarium. There's also the Moonshine Ranch Horse Riding to explore.

Boat trips (cruises, fishing, snorkelling, scuba, thrill seeking etc) can be taken from Pernera Harbour which is ltterly on the doorstep.

And if you want something completely different from the crystal clear waters, there's always the Camel Park in Limassol!

Please note: some facilities/attractions close during the winter months.

“5* Star”

Thank you Jason & Isobel for renting us your villa. The villa is in a quiet cul de sac with everything on your doorstep, Villa is well equipped with everything that is stated in the description I can not think of one thing that wasn't available. I stayed with my 3 children aged 16,18 & 23 and also my daughters Fiance. I don't cook on holiday but if I wanted to there was ample choices of pots and pans, microwave, toaster, plates and cutlery oh yes and a good old barbie literally felt like home from home. There is a seating area outside with an umbrella where I could sit and have my morning coffee with my croissants and a separate area with sun loungers on the decking at the rear of the villa for soaking up the rays. The pool man came as promised to clean the pool. It can get a bit breezy at times so we bought a fishing net to fish the odd leaf that blew into the pool. There is a supermarket literally on your doorstep and plenty of other shops, ice cream parlours, restaurants and bars etc just round the corner on the Pernera strip. There is also a beach literally 5 minutes walk from the Villa (10 in the blazing sun in August). Protaras is 5 minutes in a taxi don't know about walking along the broad walk as only done this once and decided a taxi was a better option, there are plenty of shops and restaurants from Greek, Japanese, Mexican, Indian, Italian not forgetting a couple of fast food restaurants well known back home in the U.K. also lots of bars and pubs. My young adults were entertained playing scrabble and Cluedo one of the many board games available at the Villa not forgetting the unlimited wifi as they can not bear to be parted from social media. Despite not traveling with any young children this Villa is also well equipped for family's with young children providing a travel cot, high chair, stair gates, toys etc. There were a few things that we didn't use i.e. watching tv, playing the game consoles, using the house phone etc. but the fact that they were available was comforting. The pack that Jason and Isobel provide gives you lots of information on what's available in the Pernera area and surrounding areas for those who want to travel further afield. We visited Ayia Napa twice taking the bus around the corner from the Villa. This is the first Villa I have stayed in as I usually rent 5* apartments. I can truly say that this Villa has not disappointed and has set a high standard for our future ventures.

We are delighted you and the young adults enjoyed tge villa and surrounds, thank you for choosing Villa5.

“Brilliant! even better than expected”

We usually go to Paphos so this was a departure for us. We were pleasantly surprised! The villa is an hour from Larnaca airport, we rented a car but this was costly since we did not use it much - there was too much to do near the villa. Perhaps I should keep it secret but I'd recommend this villa. It's very close to the sea but well positioned for supermarkets and lots of great bars and restaurants in Pernera. Some friends visited us from another villa - they were green with envy, this villa is stuffed with goodies. The night life is great, I recommend the Windmill bar or Knights pub opposite - especially on Karaoke night. Ayia Napa is 10 minutes away in a cab and worth a visit. I'd also recommend the glass bottom boat from the local beach. Next time we'll try the waterparks and diving. Two thumbs up!

You were wonderful guests! Thanks so much for your review. Tip for next time: if you liked the glass bottom boat, there's also a fab "pirates of the caribbean" boat trip on a boat made up like the one in the movie too now.
