The Famagusta District

Protaras: Located on the south easternmost coast of Cyprus, Protaras is a popular holiday destination that boasts a fabulous selection of beaches and splendid year round weather.

Family orientated and popular with couples, Protaras offers a variety of hotels, bars, restaurants and leisure facilities to please all manner of holidaymakers. Here in this idyllic resort one can find golden sandy beaches and rugged cliffs complimenting the tiny bays while overlooking the brilliance of the early morning sun as it slowly rises above the horizon, as if emerging from the crystal-clear waters of the sparkling blue-green Mediterranean.

Ayia Napa: Once known as a small fishing village, is now known as a fun-time holiday resort and for its all night partying, attracting thousands and thousands of holidaymakers, especially during the summer season when it literally comes alive.

It’s regarded as the tourist paradise of Cyprus with its fine golden beaches, considered to be the best on the island, clear turquoise sea and fun-loving atmosphere. Along the excellent beaches there are many watersport facilities, other attractions in the Napa area are, the marine life museum, its skycoasters and famous waterpark.

Ayia Napa has the best nightlife on the island with its great bars and pubs, elegant and comfortable restaurants, and excellent well known clubs that bring over world famous dj’s and host some great events.

Protaras

Konnos Bay

Situated four kilometres east of Agia Napa on the road between Cape Greco and Protaras, Konnos is the last beach delineating the boundaries between Agia Napa and Paralimni. One of the most picturesque beaches on the island, it is well sheltered from heavy winds and has practically no waves at all. It is 200 metres long by 35 metres wide and covered with fine golden sand. Water sports, sun bed and umbrella hire are available on site. There are accommodation facilities, restaurants and convenience stores nearby while lifeguards are on duty with lifesaving equipment from 10:00 to 18:00 hours during the bathing season. The beach is accessible by car, motorbike and bicycle, and on foot.

Cape Greco
About 4km to the south of Protaras, the rocky coast of Cape Greco marks lands’ end at the southeast tip of the island. Patrolled by a lighthouse and military installations, the furthest limits of the cape are strictly out of bounds. Further inland however, the cape’s idyllic clear waters are a perfect retreat for snorkelers or swimmers who want to avoid the busy beaches of nearby Protaras.

“Fantastic Villa in a peaceful outskirts of Protaras”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2016

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Villa and cannot thank Andreas and his family (particularly his father Savvas) enough for their help throughout. In turn, I wanted to write a thorough and fair review of our stay here for those looking to visit (particularly for those looking to travel with very young children). For those reading this review our party included 8 adults, 1 teenager, and my 2 younger children (aged 2 and 10 months). Upon arrival we were a little surprised to find that the villa is actually split into two sections with no connecting door, however this is a great advantage if you would like some privacy between two groups (both sides accommodates 6 people) and has separate bathrooms and fully fitted kitchens. The two sides obviously share the open space outside so to the rear/side you have two large dining tables, a bbq/pizza oven, a fruit garden, table tennis, a small grass area and a good sized 10 metre swimming pool. Andreas was also kind enough to provide 2 travel cots and a high chair. The Swimming pool was great although it is best suited to older children and adults. The shallow end is around 0.9m deep and the deep end was considerably deeper. It was very well maintained and was in direct sun light for most of the day (so be careful during peak heat (1130-3pm roughly) but there are two large canopies attached to the house that provide shade (along with 2 sun umbrellas). Inside house was well maintained, clean and had all amenities that you would need for any duration of stay. It is worth noting though that with young children you do need to watch them constantly because the tiled flooring and stairs can be concerning with toddlers running around. We were under the impression that with Protaras being only 1km away we would be able to walk this distance to venture into town for shops and restaurants but this is definitely not the case. You need a hire car without doubt for anything you wish to do outside the villa or be prepared to pay for taxis. Taxis are great for adults and cost around 10 euros each way to Protaras but I would not recommend using taxis with children who require booster/car seats. If travelling with children I would suggest that a hire car is essential. We found it cheaper to arrange this in person in Protaras rather than booking in advance (averaged around 28-30 euros per day). We also found that you get better rates on currency exchange doing this in Protaras rather than the UK beforehand (1.19 rather than 1.16 back in the UK). Konnos Beach is a must visit – lovely beach with activities and cafes but was not overly crowded. Really enjoyed visiting here. Would also recommend visiting Protaras in the evening when the shops are all open, the bars and restaurants were great, and it had a really nice family vibe to it. Taxi transfers to Larnaca were 60 Euros each way for 7 seaters and took around 45 minutes. All in all we had a fantastic time in the villa, however with young children we did find it to be hard work. If you are a family (with children 3 years+) or are going away with other adults I could not recommend this villa enough. Thank you Andreas, Savvas and family – we look to visit again in a few years’ time I’m sure.

“First class villa in beautiful location”

Reviewed 1 Jul 2013

This villa is ideally equipped for a large party. There is plenty of space and everything is well catered for. A car is definitely needed but you are only 5mins away from beautiful Konnos Beach and Protaras. The villa has a lovely pool and a great outdoor barbeque for those lovely outdoor evenings. For a large party this villa couldn't be beat.
