The Rethymnon Prefecture region

The region of Rethymno in Crete offers some of the most interesting and beautiful landscapes in Greece. Our villa Aphrodite is located in Prines, a picturesque village close to Rethymno. An area of outstanding natural beauty, the countryside lends itself to fascinating walks and mountain biking. The traditional village of Prines is just a few minutes stroll from our villa to find a local tavern and a mini-market. There are also local shops, bakery, butcher, cafes and chemist close to our villa. Within a 10 minute drive from Prines there are sandy beaches which offer good facilities. Situated in the middle of Crete, our villa provides an ideal base to explore Crete. Some interesting sights close to Rethymno are the monasteries of Arkadi and Preveli, Plakias, Lake Kournas, the natural springs of Argiroupolis, Episkopi and Georgioupolis beaches for beach lovers.

“A dream vacation in a super Villa”

Reviewed 29 Jul 2015

It was a great holiday. On arrival we were given freshly cooked moussaka, fresh olive oil, honey, juice, water, butter, feta, raki and fresh fruit, so that we could arrive the first day relaxing and had to buy immediately. We were the second time at the villa. It is fully recommended. The house is very clean, the pool is cleaned regularly every morning, the air conditioners work in all the rooms, everything is very well maintained - we arrived and felt immediately at ease. The new hammock invites you to dream. Due to the different terraces that show to different sides, everyone can decide for themselves whether they want to eat in the sun or shade. The owner and her family are very nice, courteous and helpful. In the smallest problem will immediately helped and come on site. We had a very nice barbeque evening with the owners and their family and were pampered. Many Thanks. We'll be back and certainly recommend the Villa on ....

“Wonderful holidays in a beautiful Villa”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2015

On this way we want to say a big big thank you to the owners of this villa. We had a very nice stay at this location. Everything was clean, tidy and very smart. We enjoyed every day anew. The landscape around is very nice and we seize the BBQ place as often as possible. Between the BBQs we stay a lot of time in the very nice and cool swimming pool. This makes the temperature of the sun tolerable. :-) The owners of this villa are so friendly and we had a very friendly contact from the start of the booking till the end of our vacation. We would every time come back and we are looking forward to our next stay at Crete in this beautiful house.

“A villa to return to”

Reviewed 22 Jun 2015

The location of the villa seemed first a bit far away, but we soon got used to it, and the small road to the property was in itself lovely. We loved the view from the villa, and the surroundings were excellent. The garden was perfect with its lovely flowers, greens and the activity area for the kids (girls of 9, 10 and 11 years of age), including the table tennis (not just for the kids!!). We also enjoyed the barbecue for cooking. And the pool was just perfect, especially the kids spent half of the time in it, and the pool area was excellent with the sun beds etc. The villa itself was just lovely with its Greek interior. The kitchen was ever so well equipped, we even found possibility to make frappe! The bedrooms were perfect as were the bathrooms. Everything was very clean, and the villa was cleaned by the owner family once during our one-week-stay, also the linen were changed then. The owner family took great care of us during our stay - such hospitality we seldom have met in Greece, although we always have considered Greeks as a very hospital people. Our only regret for our stay was its shortness, we surely want to return to Villa Aphrodite, next time hopefully for a longer time than for one week.

“The Perfect Villa!!!”

Reviewed 10 Jun 2015

From the moment we arrived, close to midnight on 20 May and received such a warm greeting from Roula (who remained at the property to meet us), our stay at Villa Aphrodite was just perfect. The home-made Mousaka waiting for us on our arrival was just what we needed! Delicious!! A secluded, private and slightly remote property located in the countryside, with pleasant walks and beautiful sea views, it was perfect for our stay (3 adults and 2 kids under 18 months!). The nearest town is a short drive away with Rethymnon and its large selection of restaurants and tourist attractions being approximately a 10-15 minute drive. The owners Stella, George, Roula and Dimitris could not have been more friendly or welcoming during our 10 day stay. Nothing was a problem for them. From "feeding us" to gifts for our daughter Hannah, they made our stay so pleasurable. The property itself is well maintained, spotless clean and lacking in nothing. Its villa-style layout suited our needs to a tee. The pool with its small separate children's area was so well looked after. Would we go back...ABSOLUTELY!! We cannot recommend this villa strongly enough, so much so that we will be returning next May, 2016!

“Great place to spend your holiday”

Reviewed 21 Oct 2014

We were greeted by the owners with warm Mussaka, vegetables, fruits, bread, wine, water, Raki etc - a very warm and friendly welcome!!!! Everything was great and clean. A new built pool area with new umbrellas and comfortable sunbeds had space for many, many persons ( we were only 4 ). We enjoyed the barbecues, the terraces and all the other amenities of modern civilization: Wifi, TV, oven, microwave, toaster, refrigerator, freezer, coffee-machine,( playground for children ,computer and play-station we didn`t use ). We can recommend this place for older people, too, but they mustn`t be afraid to drive a car. The best thing was the barbecue with the owner-family one evening. We had a lot of fun speaking a mixture of German, English and Greek and enjoyed the delicious things they had brought with them. Many thanks to the Sofoulakis family!!!

Dear guests, Thank you very much for your nice comments concerning our hospitality. You are really wonderful persons and it was our pleasure to meet you. We had a great time when we had dinner all together. We are looking forward to meeting you again soon in the future!

“The value for money is unique.”

The villa is just fantastic. A beautiful house. Large garden. Great pool. Just wonderful! We stayed as a family of 4 children there. And also you will be greeted by a very lovely host family. The value for money is unique. We will come back for sure and can only recommend the villa.

“Amazing! What a perfect holiday!”

Reviewed 31 Aug 2014

There were four adults that made up our party, myself, my husband, my sister and her partner. This was our first villa holiday experience so we were a bit unsure about what to expect. On arrival at the villa Stella’s mother had left us a homemade moussaka and cake which was delicious and just what we needed after a long flight. There was also fresh fruit and veg in the fridge which had been grown by Stella and her family. Stella’s father comes ever morning at about 6am to clean the pool. It is these little thing that make all the difference. Stella and her family really want you to enjoy our holiday and nothing is too much trouble. Excellent customer service! The villa is in a quiet location which provides the perfect getaway if you wish to relax and enjoy the sunshine. We would highly recommend the butchers in the local village, the meat cooks wonderfully on the villa BBQ. We also had great fun relaxing on inflatable lilos in the large swimming pool. We can honestly say that, thanks to the wonderful hospitality from Stella and her family, we will never do a package holiday again! We highly recommend this villa to all holiday makers as the villa caters for all age groups. We loved our experience so much that we are planning to return again next year!

“An outstanding villa with wonderful hospitality from Stella and her family”

Reviewed 27 Jul 2014

The party consisted of mother and father plus three daughters 16, 22 and 37and we stayed for the first two weeks of July. The accomodation was first class with every conceivable facility inside and out. Each bedroom had it's own terrace plus one other patio leading from the kitchen so everyone had their own space as well as shared. The hospitality from Stella and her family was outstanding with a large mousaka in the fridge on our first night and eggs from the hens every day. The drive up from the village is a bit hairy but you soon get used to that and the villa is well placed for access to the national highway and nearby Rethymnon. We would thoroughly recommend Villa Aphrodite and will certainly be back.

“A wonderful place to stay with the opportunity to meet a Cretan family who are so generous and hospitable”

Reviewed 14 Aug 2013

We have been staying at Villa Aphroditi every year since 2003. Returning is like coming to a second home with the chance to meet the Sofoulaki family again. Their generosity and hospitality over the years has been outstanding such that we have come to feel part of an extended family. Dimetri and Roula are such excellence hosts as are their children Stella and George, both of whom we have seen get married and now who have children of their own. This villa is in a really private location yet only 5 minutes from the local village of Prines where Dimetri and Roula live. The villa is spacious, extremely well appointed and surrounded by extensive grounds which include a large freestanding BBQ and separate Pizza oven. There is also a table tennis table and of course a wonderful swimming pool where the water is often still so warm even late at night. This year has seen all new loungers and parasols and Dimetri will come every day at sunrise to clean the pool and surrounding area while Roula will clean and change bedding and towels twice in a week. I should also mention the local taverna in Prines where Yannis will serve up some food with great service. If you have never been to this villa and met this family i would recommend the experience to you without reservation!!
