“Fantastic location. Run down accomodation”
Paradise Villa Fantastic location overlooking a fantastic view and beach and with nothing in between, you pay for the location and the owner knows it! The owner is very pleasant and easy to contact. There is a nice neighbour who lives amongst the rented holiday’isms that surround him. You have the fantastic Oasis Café virtually on your doorstep. Would I go back, yes, just for the location? But please read on……. The Owner has 4 villas in the precinct, you can tell which ones, they are all run down. Everything here is broken, bodged, about to break, or so flimsy it will break, hence care is needed when touching anything at all, it soon becomes quickly apparent that a deposit may not be returned because something will get broke, I was careful and I got my deposit back. Approach from the car park is rather like that to a crumbling inner city tenement block, run down dirty and overgrown. There is filthy broken patio furniture stacked up by the door. The patio to the beach is overgrown with weeds 3 feet high, those weeds have ‘gone off’ and stink of dog urine. On the patio there is a filthy old plastic patio set. Outside, all the windows and frames are dirty, the view to the sea through the patio window is spoiled by large scratches across the glass, all metalwork is rusty and stains the white paintwork. Security lights, patio lights and doorbell don’t work. The dustbins have no lids, I found some (lids) behind the broken patio furniture stacked up by the door. Other small things like a general dirty exterior, missing window sill end caps and an un-swept patio all added the ‘ambiance’ On occasions, it was embarrassing to sit out, in case anyone thought the place was mine. When we arrived, there was no bed linen, we had to chase down the owner late at night after we had retired to bed and so realised. The owner sent a very nice cleaner round with the bed linen some half an hour later. I am guessing here, but I suspect that the cleaners do the best job they can with a limited time that the owner pays them to do so. We met the cleaners on the last day of our stay and they seemed very nice. Inside, the place has a run down and almost ‘grubby’ feel to it, there are cob webs, grubby stair rails, sagging sofas, filthy lampshades to name but a few. Lounge diner Here there is satellite TV, it is not subscribed hence useless. The aerial is faulty and don't work unless you mess with it, we ended up taping the cord to the wall to get a signal. The sliding door to the patio is knackered, there are hand written notes on the frame telling you how to open and close it without breaking the well-worn and frail mechanism, it is near impossible without practice. We mastered it by the end of the first week. I guess whoever breaks this first will lose their deposit! As previously mentioned, the view to the sea through the patio windows is spoiled by large scratches across the glass. There is a leak from the balcony causing ceiling to peel and drop. There is no Wi-Fi, the owner claims there is Wi-Fi if you buy a ‘dongle’. WTF is a dongle? Kitchen Generally worn but is actually pretty well kitted out with no matching oddments. Cupboards and sink are grubby and the tap housing is loose. Bathroom Shower curtain is stained with old soap, it hangs too low due to the low rail where there are no matching curtain hooks of which half are broken. The shower head support is about to break off the wall, someone will have this break in their hands very soon, we were careful with it. The shower taps are bodged. The bathroom door will not shut properly, you have to wedge it open at night to stop it banging in the wind and waking you up. All the towel hooks on the door are broken off. The bathroom door lock is broken, the door cannot be locked. There is not a single shelf in the bathroom, nowhere to put tooth paste, brushes, flannels etc. The floorboards in the bathroom ‘bounce’ underfoot. Toilet seat won't stay up, difficult one when having a piss. For some reason, there is a very strong paraffin smell in the bathroom. Toilet 2 Broken toilet roll holder. No ventilation. Bedroom 1 The mattress is comfortable, but has a worn out feel to it. The balcony up there is so knackered (and with rusty railing) that it has an unsafe feel to it. The curtains are well past. Bedroom 2 This is crammed and dark, so much so that there is a bed preventing the door from being closed, no privacy for the occupants here. I could go on, but I think I have made my point. As I say, Fantastic location overlooking a fantastic view and beach and with nothing in between, you pay for the location and the owner knows it! Would I go back, yes, just for the location? Keith, please don’t be upset, I’m duty bound to tell it how it is.
