Further details indoors

This is a very unique property offering a truly memorable experience. Originally built as a Pigeon Barn, (don’t worry, the original tenants have long since moved on..!) this 3 storey, open plan detached barn offers luxurious accommodation for 2 people (although there is the ability to accommodate another person with the sofa bed in the lounge). Absolutely full of original features (the beam work is incredible) this will live long in the memory of anyone that stays. A very romantic and special property designed for those looking for something a bit different...

Further details outdoors

Le Pigeonnier has its own ,private ,stone terrace with quality outdoor furniture, barbecue , and lighting. This leads onto the communal gardens and the large and secure swimming pool terrace, which provides a fabulous 12m x 6m salt water pool, very large terrace and wonderful views of the valley. The sunsets are simply magnificent, with the terrace being west facing to maximise the panorama.
Extending to approximately 4 acres in total, the property offers plenty of scope to wander and watch the prolific wildlife. Birds of prey, tawny and barn owls and deer are regular visitors to the valley, (daily in some cases), with the occasional sighting of wild boar and badgers. The grounds to the property slope down the valley below the top terrace which houses the 3 properties and the Pool Terrace. Within the grounds can be found a petanque court, (located under a very old oak tree), various picnic benches, an open field and an embryonic orchard which, in time, will boast a variety of fruits.

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

Lot and Garonne is situated in the Aquitaine region in the South West of France. Also known by its historical name of Gascony, the region is one of outstanding natural beauty, steeped in history and benefiting from a warm climate from spring to late autumn.

The region is also known as one of the best, if not the best, gastronomic centres of France and is home to the world famous Fois gras and truffles. Indeed, the immediate locality surrounding the properties is at the heart of the truffle industry in France with the local village of Prayssas being renowned for its annual truffle market. Not surprisingly, the local restaurants are renowned for their cuisine and in particular the use of local produce.

The region boasts 3 main rivers, with the Dordogne in the north, the Lot in the centre and the Garonne towards the south. The property is located in the hills between the Garonne and Lot valleys and therefore boasts some stunning scenery.

Prayssas

The region is blessed with wonderful countryside and historical places of interest, so is ideal for both passive and more active pursuits.

There is an almost endless list of places to visit in the area, from wonderful scenery, ancient villages, beautiful architecture and sites of outstanding natural beauty. Villages and towns

The local village of Prayssas is just 4kms away. This old bastide village is full of life in the summer months, extremely pretty and boasts all facilities, shops, restaurants, bar, post office, pharmacy and medical centre. Visit www.prayssas.com for more info.

The area boasts some fine examples of bastide (fortified) villages. Pujols is only 15 mins away and is exceptionally pretty. Slighty further afield (30 mins) is Penne d’Agenias, an excellent example of a bastide village and extremely pretty.

The two local towns (both approx 20 mins away) are Agen and Villenueve sur Lot. Both are very attractive and have excellent pedestrianised shopping areas in the town centres and a number of commercial centres on the outskirts with hypermarkets and other retail outlets. Agen is renowned for the aquaduct which carries the Canal du Midi across the Garonne river –recently featured in the Rick Stein tv series, "A French Oddessey".

“Relax and enjoy”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2011

Beautiful views, peace and quiet, lots to see and do. A summary of our week. If you want to just stay at the side of the pool soaking up the fantastic sunshine then you can. If you want to explore the many historic local bastides then that is also easy to do. A car is the only thing you need to take with you, oh and a sat nav with european maps! The house is fully equipped with everything you'll need, and of a high standard as well. The local village of Praysass holds evening festivals which are well worth attending. Check which days as they vary with the seasons. Local supermarkets are easy to find and about the same price as the uK. Except for wine which is much cheaper.
