The Amalfi Coast region

The mild climate, the beauty of the coasts, the richness of its art and history, and the love for food make Campania the fascinating territory that it is.

The journey begins with the sea, the region's uncontested queen, with its intense colors, its coasts that are crawling with bays, coves and rock faces.

The waters here boast the islands in the Gulf of Naples, the fascinating Amalfi Coast, Capri and Ischia - true natural masterpieces.

This region is made even more charming by the flourishing Mediterranean vegetation that alternates with its small, charming towns that narrate the history and traditions of Campania and make any stay here unforgettable.

And how can we forget the natural endowments that dominate this region: Vesuvius, gloomy and mysterious, loved for its beauty and feared for its power. Then, Naples, famous around the world for the intensity and passion of its music, but not only, mingles high-brow culture with the popular, the sacred with the profane, and the joyful with the melancholic.

Sorrento, a town that spreads over a terrace of tufo, seems to tumble into the sea. Throughout this view paradisical panorama, indented and inaccessible coasts weave their colors with those of small and hidden beaches, creating a unique and enthralling scenery. Here, the work of man is truly monolithic. The roughest areas are now made up of a series of terraces sloping down towards the sea, used for the cultivation of citrus, olive trees and vines. These gardens give off heady scents of oranges, lemons and orange-blossoms.

Thanks to the sun, this region can boast the juiciest and tastiest tomatoes in the world that flavor the many local dishes and, last but not least, the famous pizza and calzone.

Naples is also the homeland of Italian spaghetti. The sauces are numerous and all very tasty! Another pride of this region is the dairy produce, with the famous buffalo mozzarella.

The most typical desserts are Neapolitan through and through: crispy sfogliatelle with ricotta cheese, and babas soaked in (rum) liqueur.

The liqueurs? Limoncello and Campanian wines, from Taurasi to Aglianico, Greco di Tufo, Asprino d’Aversa, Lacrima Christi, Fiano and Solopaca, perhaps enjoyed with a Neapolitan meal on a terrace overlooking the sea and a beautiful Neapolitan song playing in the background.

Music and entertainment, sun and sea, history and culture. Visiting places like Paestum; Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Torre Annunziata; the Chartreuse of Padula; and the Royal Palace of Caserta will all take you back in time and far away from the quotidian!

Italy’s spectacular Amalfi Coast is one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the world. With sparkling turquoise water, wild soaring mountains and picturesque Italian villages nestled amidst aromatic lemon groves, the Amalfi Coast makes for quite a first impression.

Positano is one of the most breathtakingly romantic hideaways in the world with hundreds of colourful buildings that literally cascade down a mountain to the waters edge. As the crown jewel of the Amalfi Coast and with soaring mountains as its backdrop, navigate its labyrinth of steep, winding roads and you’ll discover a charming seaside town filled with vibrant cafes and quaint local shops.

Ravello is perched high above the ocean on the top of a mountain and offers the most spectacular aerial views in the region.

The quieter yet endlessly charming village of Amalfi tends to be a popular holiday destination for Italian families. Amalfi has more history associated with it than any of the other little villages. Having been founded in the 9th century it once rivaled Genoa and Pisa for military power. About 3 miles west of Amalfi you will find the Emerald Grotto a cavern known for its light effects and chamber of stalactites and stalagmites many under water.

Although technically not part of the Amalfi Coast, the spectacular island of Capri is only a short ferry trip from the Amalfi Coast and is one of the most glittering jewels of the region. This is the place where Italy’s wealthy jet-set crowd come to relax and play during the summer months in their multi-million dollar yachts and luxury villas.

"A quiet corner of the Amalfi coast"

Zaffiro provides an extremely well appointed, clean and comfortable apartment tucked away in Praiano with great views out to sea. The welcome gifts of cake and Lemoncello went down extremely well as did the friendliness of the owner. The coast road can be challenging but don't let that put you off exploring Pompeii, Herculanium, Versuvius and some of the wonderful places along the Amalfi coast.

"Have stayed here 4 times, one week each, refered friends too."

Very clean, beautiful view, groceries are steps away. Comfortable beds, interior privacy. Owner has left us fresh Limoncello and a cake each time. Bus stops accross the street, take to Positano and catch a ferry to Capri, avoid parking hastles in Sorento. Park at pay parking next to door or free at owner's home a couple hundred meters away. These are VERY nice people who make you feel like family. Beautiful view. A/C, cloths washer, clothes line on both balconies. Beautiful view. Master has king bed an in- room bath plus a walk out balcony. Top floor bedroom has twin beds and bath is down stairs by main entrance. Middle floor is kitchen and has walk out balcony. Beautiful view. I recommend to anyone without reservation.
