The Amalfi Coast region
Campania: an extraordinary twist of history, art, culture and nature, a land where the ancient and the modern melt in a great performance that has lasted for centuries.
Visitors will be delighted and amazed at the endless things they will discover as well as the exquisite beauty absolutely everywhere: from the Islands of Ischia, Capri, Prochida in the Gulf of Napoli to the Sorrento Seninsula. and slightly South from the Amalfi Coast to the Cilento. Some parks and natural reserves are also protected, such as the Vesuvius, Tha Natural Park of Cilento, the Ieranto Bay.
This region will never disappoint the visitor in search of archeological or historical sites: besides the extraordinary Pompei, there are Ercolano, Stabia e Oplontis with their old villas, Campi Flegrei with Rione Terra of Pozzuoli (the biggest archeological urban site in Europe) or Velia and Paestum in Cilento, or the Reggia di Caserta (The Royal Palace of Caserta).
Napoli alone is one of the richest cities - endowed opulently with art and history, with its churches, palaces and magnificent royal houses.
along the coast, you will observe a multitude of towers which were built during the Middle Age to protect the area from attacks of Saracens pirates, and the beautiful architectures of Positano, Amalfi, Ravello.
This region is an extraordinary mixture of history, art, culture, nature and good food, a land where ancient and modern melt in a great show that has lasted for thousands of years.
The wild and romantic Amalfi Coast (Italian: Costiera Amalfitana), running from Sorrento Peninsula to Vietri sul Mare, is a destination that you cannot miss during a visit to Italy.
The unique beauties of this place has always enchanted visitors from every part of the world.
One is immediately aware of the magnificence which abound here on every conceivable level - nature, art, architecture, history and of course, the incomparable food, wine and luxury!
Boarding a local boat, you may gently cruise along the coast and experience for yourself the breath-taking cliffs which seem to descend from the heavens and plunge into the sea. The area abounds with unspoiled bays and inlets and beautiful grottos, like the stunning Emerald Grotto.
In this magical place there are spots where nature is eternally pure such as the Oasis of Vallone Porto in Positano or the Ferriere Valley in Amalfi.
All of the small towns along this divine coast are of a unique and defined character: Positano, Praiano, Amalfi, Ravello as far as Vietri sul Mare are worth a visit
And shopping is an absolute 'must' while here! You'll have almost too many choices to make between the famous boutiques of Positano fashion, the equally well-known ceramic shops, gourmet and organic local products as well as luxury fashion and jewellery comparable to any of the great European capitals!
And our local cuisine and wines, celebrated all over the world for their taste, freshness and artistry, will seduce your senses!
In 1997, the Amalfi Coast was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a cultural landscape.
