Description from owner
La Godiniére is a small, very quiet, rural French hamlet set in the eastern Vendée region of the Pays-de-la-Loire. Life here is peaceful, slow and quintessentially French with the local bread van calling most days announcing it's arrival with the blast of its horn. A small stream babbles along in the valley, buzzards fly overhead and the lack of light pollution makes the night sky come alive. The Vendée has a lovely warm climate with historical villages and towns dotted amidst the countryside with churches, windmills, abbeys and chateaus boasting architectural features and many historical tales. Many attractions enjoy "animation", none more so than the "Puy du Fou" which takes the historical story telling beyond your imagination. The Venis Verte is a short way to the south with it's narrow canals criss crossing the landscape in a maze of waterways. There are numerous country walks winding their way through the countryside and kilometres

Many attractions enjoy "animation", none more so than the "Puy du Fou" which takes the historical story telling beyond your imagination. The Venis Verte is a short way to the south with it's narrow canals criss crossing the landscape in a maze of waterways. There are numerous country walks winding their way through the countryside and kilometres of marked cycle routes along quiet roads. For the more serious cyclists the Stage 1 of the 2011 Tour de France passed close by starting in La Barre-de-Monts and finishing in Les Herbiers a distance of 191.5km http://www.letour.com/2011/TDF/COURSE/us/100/etape_par_etape.html. Life here is slow and quiet, with he hardest thing to do here is fit in with French time
The house itself faces a southerly direction making the most of the warm sun that bathes the Vendée. Enjoy the variety of wine and cheese that France has to offer in the enclosed courtyard. The property has a variety of fruit trees including apples, peaches, cherries, plums and kiwi. The kitchen is well equipped to enjoy preparing and eating local produce either in the dining room or al fresco. The living room has a wood burner for those cooler winter evenings, various books, DVD player, UK satellite, 3D television and Playstation 2. The dining room has a table large enough to seat six comfortably, eight at a push, stereo with an older iPod dock and cupboard containing local information and a variety of games. Internet and telephone can be made available if needed for a supplement.
Upstairs there are two spacious double bedrooms (one with the addition of a futon which can sleep two people), a single bedroom and bathroom with a walk in shower. In addition to the courtyard there is a small part of the meadow behind the outbuildings which is grazed by the local farmer and another grassed area with fruit trees bordered with apple trees nestled amongst the local allotments. Due to the split levels in the house it is unfortunately not suitable for wheelchair users or those that find steps and stairs difficult. Pets would be considered but may incur additional cleaning costs. There are currently four bikes available, not suitable for the Tour de France but will get you around. Currently not one available for the very young rider.
Location description from owner
The Pays de la Loire region
In addition to the lake at Pouzuages with its gentle sloping shore great for the younger swimmer there are others in the area suitable for swimming, canoeing and fishing. Some lakes including the lake at Mervant have boat rental including sailing and canoes with the addition of a couple of places to enjoy a beverage and food overlooking the water. It is a popular with both visitors and the local community.
Beaches and the Coast
There are numerous beaches if you wish to visit the sea within 80 - 90 minutes away and make a lovely day trip. They range from L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer (70km) and La Tranche-sur-Mer (82km) with their numerous mussels beds offshore past Les Sables-D'Oloone (100km) to St Hilaire de Riez (105km) with its salt marshes. All have markets open at various times for those wanting to cook their own sea food and numerous restaurants for those that don't. The Ile de Ré is also within reach offering beautiful sandy beaches as is La Rochelle with its maritime history, restaurants and cafés.
Puy du Fou voted best theme park in the world 2012
Virtually unknown to those in the UK but hugely popular with the French is the Puy du Fou. An attraction that has to be experienced to be fully understood and appreciated. It takes the French "animation" beyond what you think is possible visiting the Vikings, Knights of Old, Ancient Rome a huge specactular Cinescenie. Tickets are cheaper if purchased in advance and the Cinescenie is only on certain weekends during the summer and do get booked up.
There are many different activities in the area to enjoy including horse riding, vineyards, cycling, walking and parcours
The closest town to La Godiniere, Pouzuages is a typical hillside town with a 13 Century Chateau overlooking the surrounding landscape about 8km away. There are several places to eat, a trail that takes you around the city, indoor swimming pool and lake to enjoy during the warmer months. Further afield lies Chantonney to the west, La Chatainagrie to the south and further on Fonteney le Compte with its saturday morning market. All are within 30 minutes easy drive and have either a Super or Hyper U supermarket. Les Herbiers to the north during the summer offers a swimming pool complex with outdoor pools, slides, pool dancing and wave area.
