The Annex is a 2 story 1906 Adirondack 'Camp' in the woods located less than 2 1/2 miles off Exit 26 of U.S. I-87, the Adirondack Northway It is available for weekly rental from mid-May through mid-October. In the heart of the Adirondacks, built in 1906 and filled with original art and assorted antiques, The Annex is a perfect get-away spot for writers, artists, nature enthusiasts, bird and critter watchers (deer, turkeys,foxes pass by: chipmunks, racoons, a groundhog & red & gray squirrels live here) or just plain vacationing couch potatoes. The Annex is a short drive from public beaches on 3 lakes (Schroon, Brant, Loon), has well marked hiking trails nearby and is down the road from Natural Stone Bridge & Caves Park, a natural attraction. Just across the road are our 4 acres of private woods. A short meander through the woods brings you to the flat rocks edging Trout Brook, where sitting on the rocks you can have a picnic lunch and a chance to cool your feet in the bubbly, clear water. The Annex makes a perfect base for day trips, cultural, historical or natural to places like Schroon Lake village, the High Peaks, Lake Placid, the Adirondack Museum, Fort Ticonderoga, Saratoga and, of course, Lake George. Additionally the town of Chester (Pottersville is a hamlet in the town of Chester) features the CHESTER CHALLENGE, six hiking trails of varying difficulty from a stroll to a climb, taking between 45 minutes to 4 hours each and topped by beautiful views of the surrounding lakes and mountains. These are a particularly wonderful activity for September and October as the leaves begin to change. Downstairs, The Annex has an open floor plan with living room, dining area, modernized kitchen (stove/full size refrigerator with freezer/microwave/coffee maker/toaster/toaster oven plus cooking and eating utensils, dishes, mugs and glasses) and bathroom with stall shower. The house features dozens of books for you to read, including a collection of Adirondack-themed books. There are two porches:an 8' X 20' open porch with Adirondack chairs faces towards Catamount Loj and a wonderful large (10' x 28' approx.) screened porch with electrical outlets, Adirondack chairs, old-fashioned Adirondack benches plus two tables with chairs. This porch overlooks a small lawn and woods and is great for card playing, reading or enjoying a bug-free outdoors dining experience indoors. On the 2nd floor are four simple bedrooms, two have double beds, two have 'camp double' sized mattresses (approx. 6" narrower than a true double). Each has a bureau, chair and a window looking out on trees. Quilts , sheets and towels are provided. On site cell service is weak, but WiFi access is available. In addition to the books, boxed board games to play and an assortment of videos are available for you to watch. The Annex is a real turn-of-the-century (last century, that is) Adirondack guest house. It is for true Adirondack-lovers wanting to "live rustic" in an icon of local history. Summer is great and late September into October brings color to the mountains and are a hiker or leaf-peeper's delight. (See "Chester Challenge" above.) For shop-a-holics, the famous "World's Greatest Garage Sale" usually takes place in early is October in Warrensburg (exit 23 on the Northway).

House rules

The Annex isn't ideal for toddlers as there are no balusters, only a banister. The bathroom is on the 1st floor, bedrooms on the 2nd so I worry that little kids can fall on the stairs.

4 adult guests are ideal but a family with several kids is fine. No guests beyond the number noted on booking or we may cancel the stay.

To be allowed, pets must be housebroken and socialized. Advanced permission is required.

We request all check-ins between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. unless previously arranged.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Barbara (the owner) a message.

If Barbara (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
