The East Anglia region

The Norfolk Broads is a network of inland water ways. It attracts many visitors wishing to enjoy the scenery, wildlife (especially birds), watersports, beaches, cycling (it's quite flat!) and charm of the area.

Potter Heigham

With the famous medieval bridge, Potter Heigham is one of the main boating centres on the Norfolk Broads and a long stretch of water for those that fancy a little trip out from their cottage on a Dayboat.

The famous 'Potter Heigham Bridge' crosses the River Thurne and splits Potter Heigham into two, Thurne Bank & Potter Bank with access in both directions to other pretty Broadland Villages. Upper Thurne leading to Hickling, Horsey & Martham and in the other direction Horning, Wroxham, Ludham and further a field Stalham and southern rivers.

The Broadshaven Tavern public house and overlooks the river so sitting and watching the world float by from the river garden is a must. Within walking distance also is the Falgate Inn again with garden (not riverside) and serving good traditional pub food.

There are two cafes at its heart with seating outside, one sits right next door to the 'FAMOUS' Broads discount shopping experience in Lathams where you can get 'everything' you need in one shop from food, groceries to fishing tackle and carpets! You really will find everything in here including a bakery and newsagent. There is also a fish & chip shop at the Bridge and gift shop – you really don't need to go anywhere else!

Potter Heigham has plenty of pretty walks (circular too approx. 5 miles) around its river with the network of paths, the Weavers Way passes through here too where you will see the only place the Broads Authority have allowed buildings on the riverbank – only accessible by foot or river.

A truly enchanting village and perfectly located to get around to visit the larger city of Norwich 16 miles, with its amazing Cathedral, or the seaside town of Great Yarmouth 12 miles in the other direction and the infamous Golden Mile.

“Superb fishing.”

Reviewed 9 Dec 2014

Fishers Haven was really nice. It is deceptively large inside, well equipped and very comfortable. The tea and coffee sachets are a nice touch too. The garden was large enough for three of us to feeder fish comfortably and also have pike rods out too if we wanted. It was also nice to have the shed to put gear in at night to keep it dry. Despite each of us having man flu at some point during the week we still managed to catch plenty. Mainly skimmer bream during the day, with the odd larger fish to 4/5lbs at night. We did limited pike fishing but still had six lovely conditioned fish to 16lbs. Very few boats meant the fishing was undisturbed and very peaceful. All the usual wildlife was around, with Kingfishers being particularly active. I would recommend decent boots at this time of year, as the path to the village was wet. Better still, hire a boat to do the shopping/ burger,/pub runs and also use it to explore this lovely part of the broads. Highly recommended for those on a budget wanting a really peaceful week of good fishing.

Thanks Andy, glad you all enjoyed and see you soon. :)
