Description from manager

Description

Tribus is a unique hideaway set within a spectacular cliff side estate overlooking the clear blue waters of Positano, one of the jewels of the Amalfi Coast. This property is made of four villas surrounded by lush gardens and secluded terraces nestled among vine-laden pergolas, bougainvillea, pine trees and ancient tropical plants.

As the former home the celebrated opera and film director Franco Zeffirelli, this property has always promoted an atmosphere of culture and creativity which is clearly visible in all the personal touch and design flair realized in the development of the property over several decades.

The villa was originally purchased in the 1920s by the Russian writer Mikhail Semenov and it was then further developed under the artistic direction of Franco Zeffirelli, who included new gardens, terraces and hidden pools.

From the time of Semenov, through the residence of Maestro Zeffirelli, Villa Tribus has welcomed an amazing coterie of literari and stars

The villa was originally purchased in the 1920s by the Russian writer Mikhail Semenov and it was then further developed under the artistic direction of Franco Zeffirelli, who included new gardens, terraces and hidden pools.

From the time of Semenov, through the residence of Maestro Zeffirelli, Villa Tribus has welcomed an amazing coterie of literari and stars of the stage and screen. As invitations were usually on condition of no photography, their presence has passed into local legend but their influence remains.

The décor is not simply a reflection of the flamboyant taste of previous owners, but it is also a celebration of local design and craftsmanship. This is the case of the individually designed rooms with their Neapolitan furniture, Vietri tiles, Murano glass and many works of art from local artists.

Named and decorated by maestro Zeffirelli himself and his team, each room offers the ultimate comfort for an unforgettable holiday. Private balconies, terraces, gardens and plunge pools adorn the various suites and a myriad of reclusive spots along the garden pathways provide the perfect setting to enjoy the refreshing sea air and the spectacular natural environment.

Maestro Zeffirelli Suite sleeps 6

The Maestro Zeffirelli Suite is the most spacious and prestigious of the whole property, and includes the rooms in which he himself used to live and work.

Comprising a living room, dining room, 3 bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, the Maestro Zeffirelli Suite boasts several terraces and a private plunge pool.

bedroom 1: the main bedroom on the first floor is furnished with Syrian mother-of-pearl furniture that used to belong to Zeffirelli himself, while the bathroom is adorned with Carrara marble, gold trim, a bathtub with a view of the sea and a large shower cubicle.

bedroom 2/3: two bedrooms on the upper floor offer breathtaking views that immediately impart a sense of peace and harmony.

Tosca Callas Suite sleeps4

Massine Suite sleeps 2

bedroom 6: The Massine Suite, dedicated to the Russian dancer and choreographer Leonide Massine, is striking for its earthy colors and impeccable combination of 19th-century furnishings, typical of the Sorrentine tradition and Neapolitan style, and characterized by its painted ceilings and polychrome majolica floors. This eclectic suite comprises an elegant living room and large bedroom, from which there is access to a majestic Roman-style bathroom on the floor beneath. Attention to details is evident throughout: from the handmade lamps to the marbles and mosaics.

Downes Suite sleeps 2

bedroom 7: The Downes Suite takes its name from the American journalist, Donald Downes. Light-blue and transparency are the characteristics of the ethereal Downes suite, echoing the tones of the sea. An element that can be perceived in every detail: from the crystal and semi-precious stones used for the lamps in the drawing rooms and bedroom to the majolica in the beautiful terrace overlooking the sea and the antique glass phials adorning the niches around the welcoming and luxurious bathtub. This suite comprises a spacious living room and a large bedroom, from which there is access to a private terrace with sweeping views of the sea and Positano coastline.

Diaghilev Suite sleeps 2

bedroom 8: The first floor of Villa Azzurra houses the Diaghilev Suite named after Sergei Diaghilev, a regular guest of Tribus and founder of the Ballets Russes. The suite with its blue and white nautical theme, is characterized by colorful collages of corals and seashells and small antiques. The view is the focus around which the interiors revolve: a masterly play of mirrors makes the spectacle of the sea and surrounding nature visible even from the beautifully appointed bathroom.
