The Hampshire region

Hampshire is a popular holiday area, with tourist attractions including its many seaside resorts, the maritime area in Portsmouth and the motor museum at Beaulieu. The New Forest National Park lies within the borders, as does a large area of the South Downs, which is now a National Park. Hampshire has a long maritime history and two of England's largest ports lie on its coast. The county is famed as home of the writers Jane Austen and Charles Dickens.

Hampshire has a milder climate than most areas of the British Isles, being in the far south with the climate stabilising effect of the sea, but protected against the more extreme weather of the Atlantic coast. Hampshire has a higher average annual temperature than the UK average at 9.8 °C to 12 °C,[2] average rainfall at 741–1060 mm per year,[3] and higher than average sunshine at over 1541 hours per year.[4]

The Wow Factor !

Portsmouth is the UK's premier waterfront destination combining sea views, great shopping, eating and drinking with stunning attractions and centuries of history, all on the water's edge. Convenient for day trips to The Isle of Wight by hovercraft or ferry.

What a view! If you're looking for a wow factor then enjoy the stunning views from the view decks of the Spinnaker Tower. There is no better introduction to the city and its world famous harbour. You will see this compact city laid out before you and be able to see many of the city's other attractions. Walk on air on the largest glass floor in Europe or enjoy a taste of Portsmouth's unique heritage when you watch history unfold through the Tower's time telescopes.

You can see for miles! Enjoy stunning views across the Solent and the city. On a clear day you can see up to 23 miles over to Chichester, the South Downs and the Isle of Wight. Just below your feet, the city's waterfront extends through histroic Old Portsmouth and along Southsea's Victorian seafront backed by gorgeous green spaces.

You'll see that everything is close to hand, so whether you want an action-packed weekend or a break from it all, Portsmouth brings it to the water's edge.

Down from the Tower? Then take the time to wander around the award-winning Gunwharf Quays before you head off to see the city's other sights. With a year-round events programme, there's plenty to entertain you or why not shop'til you drop or stop for lunch at one of over 20 restaurants, cafés and bars.

Portsmouth is just perfect for a short break with some surprises in store. Where else can you take a round trip around the Harbour or head out for a rib ride on the high seas and still make it back for an afternoon movie or massage.
