Location description from owner

The County Donegal region

County Donegal has long been a favourite holiday destination for people from all over Ireland, but especially those from the northern counties. In recent decades, it has been discovered by people from all over the UK and Europe. The unspoilt countryside, mountainous terrain, and long, golden sandy beaches, combine with a relaxed pace of life and a warm welcome to make it the ideal getaway. Donegal has a fascinating history, and long artistic tradition - exemplified at Donegal County Museum in Letterkenny, the Derek Hill Gallery at Glebe, and a variety of heritage centres and art galleries all of which can be easily accessed by car from Doagh Cottage & The Calf House.

Portsalon

Doagh Cottage and The Calf House are situated within the rural downland of Doaghcrabbin, situated on the Fanad Peninsula. Doaghcrabbin is a beautiful headland with stunning cliffs, caves, farmland and a mix of traditional and recent farm and holiday dwellings. Favourite Days Out from Doaghcrabbin include visits by ferry to spectacular Tory Island - home to puffins at the right time of year; swimming, surfing, sailing and beachcombing on the many sandy stretches and rocky shores nearby; fine and family dining in good local restaurants; hunting for bric a brac in Rathmullan; walking, cycling and visiting the Castle in Glenveagh National Park, and hiking up Errigal, Muckish and other mountains. Bike hire, surf lessons and pony trekking are also good pastimes. There are grocery shops within 3km of Doagh Cottage & The Calf House. Excellent butchers, hairdressers, beauty therapies and a supermarket are available within a 20km radius. Letterkenny, 43km from Doaghcrabbin, has all the amenities you would expect from a large modern town.
