Description from owner

Description

Adjoining our own property, the comfortable bungalow is situated above the beach and harbour of the historic village of Portreath on the rugged north Cornish coast. There is easy access to the south-west coast path.

Portreath has a convenience store, three pubs and several cafes. Four well-known supermarkets are within ten minutes' drive.

A ten minute walk takes you down to the beach and harbour, and a few minutes along a footpath brings you to Tehidy Country Park, Tehidy Golf Club or the Coast-to-Coast cycle trail which runs from Portreath to Devoran on the south coast.

Half an hour's drive takes you to Truro, Newquay, Penzance, St. Ives or Falmouth - or in forty minutes you can be in the Lizard at Britain's most southerly point, enjoying the scenery on the Roseland peninsula, or marvelling at the world-famous Eden Project. Drive for an hour to visit the Minack Theatre cut out of a Cornish cliff at Porthcurno, Land's End or Rick Stein's

A little further along the coast from Padstow takes you to Port Isaac where the series is filmed!
A welcome pack is provided on your arrival, and local pickups and dropoffs can be arranged from railway or bus stations and Newquay Airport. For walkers, the South-West coastpath is five minutes away and we can offer transport to and fro various sections by arrangement.

Location description from owner

The England region

The far west of Cornwall is known for:
beaches,
stunning coastline,
long history,
saints,
mining heritage,
artistic tradition, and
relaxed lifestyle.

Portreath

The area is part of a World Heritage Site recognising Cornwall's contribution to mining around the globe. Many mine buildings locally have been restored, to give visitors a flavour of what life was like in the mid nineteenth century when the area was the richest mining area in the world!
Portreath was once the busiest harbour in the county, with coal arriving by ship from South Wales to feed the steam engines powering the mines, with tin and copper being sent in the opposite direction. Heartlands is a local visitor attraction telling the story of mining in the area, and the mass exodus of Cornish miners who were through economic necessity forced to take their skills around the globe to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Mexico, Canada and the U.S.A.
There are a number of National Trust properties a short drive away, and the Eden Project is a must-see for most visitors.
Festivals are plentiful throughout the year, celebrating such diverse subjects as literature, food, sea shanties, local oysters, real ale and the inventor of the steam engine Richard Trevithick.
