Keswick offers a host of shops, restaurants, pubs, cinema and live theatre, and activities such as lake cruises, golf and tennis can also be enjoyed - all without getting in the car. Keswick offers some of the finest walking in the Lake District National Park, from the high tops of Skiddaw and Helvellyn to the smaller summits of Latrigg and Whinlatter Forest Park...something for every member of the family.

Accommodation: Entrance hallway with space for coats and shoes, and doors leading off to all downstairs rooms and stairs leading up to first floor. To the left is the sitting room decorated in contemporary colours with electric feature fireplace, 40" plasma TV with Sky family channels, DVD, Wi-Fi broadband access, iPod docking station and panoramic fell views. To the right of the hall is a cloakroom (basin and wc).

To the rear of the house is the large kitchen diner (32" flat screen TV) with additional comfy seating area looking out on to the back garden. There are two sets of French doors leading out on to the patio area, one from the dining area and one from the seating area, making this a really light and airy room.

Upstairs on the first floor there are three bedrooms - the master bedroom with king-size bed and panoramic fell views, remote control flame effect electric fire, 28" flat screen TV, en-suite shower room with basin, wc and heated towel rail; neat twin room with fell views and a double room to the rear. Family bathroom with bath with shower over, basin, wc and heated towel rail.

There is a fourth bedroom up a further flight of stairs leading to a spacious attic room, which has two velux windows and twin beds with excellent views to the front and rear of the property (when the property is let to six people or less this bedroom is locked off).

The house has a really welcoming feel and is comfortably and thoughtfully decorated throughout, with co-ordinating soft furnishings, fitted carpets and solid flooring. Gas central heating and hot water on demand.

Location description from owner

The England region

The Lake District

With its breath-taking mountain scenery, beautiful lakes and picturesque villages, the Lake District is a paradise, not only for outdoor enthusiasts but for anyone who loves peace and beauty.

The changing seasons bring with them different highlights. In Spring observe baby lambs, bouncing around Wordsworth's Daffodils; laze about by a lake in Summer, after walking amongst the fells; watch the beautiful colours appear in Autumn, whilst hopefully enjoying an Indian Summer and Winter boasts cold frosty days, warm snug evenings and sitting in front of an open fire with a large glass of wine.

The beautiful lakes with dramatic fells rising from their shores are just part of a great experience. The Lake District offers excellent local food, beer and fantastic activities that make a holiday here live long in the memory.

Portinscale

Portinscale

Portinscale is the perfect starting place to explore the Lake District, in particular the Northern Fells and lakes. There are a variety of walks right from the front door, and it's a five minute walk to Derwentwater, where you can explore its shores on foot or take the launch around the lake into Borrowdale.

Portinscale is well served by three hotels, a pub and two cafes and a Bistro, all offering varied menus and good selections of beverages. A one-minute walk down the road will find you at The Farmer's Arms, a well presented village pub with a smart bar area and plenty of character.

Portinscale also has a popular marina with all manner of watersports available just a few minutes stroll from the front door. The cottage is a great starting point for hundreds of walks, either onto the fells of the Coledale Horseshoe or along the lakeshore paths of Derwentwater.

Keswick is within walking distance or a 5 minute drive, where there are further pubs and restaurants, as well Booths supermarket. Keswick is a hub of outdoor activity, whilst providing enough entertainment for those who prefer a less adventurous holiday; there is something to do for everyone in the area. Cockermouth, the home of Wordsworth, is also only a 15 minute drive away; and while you are there it's well worth paying a visit to the Jennings Brewery.

The visitor centre at Whinlatter is close by and has café, bike hire and high ropes course (Go Ape), as well as a live video camera in the Osprey nest (May-August). There is also a recently opened mountain bike trail, said to be one of the best and longest forest trails in England.

“Perfect house in a perfect location”

Reviewed 16 Jan 2017

Riggside is a perfect house in a perfect location to explore the Lake District! The house is well equipped, and suitable for guests of all ages! Richard and Lynn went above and beyond to make our long weekend as special and comfortable as possible, ensuring our one and three year old had appropriate high chairs, travel cot and even a couple of sledges in the hope we would get more snow! They even decorated the house with Birthday banners and left a bottle of fizz for my Mum who was celebrating her 50th birthday! We can't wait to go back and stay at Riggside in the summer!!!!

Owner's reply: Emily it was a pleasure to have you all stay at and enjoy you Mum's 50th Birthday in our Lakeland holiday home, made all the better for the very clean and tidy condition you left it in. Lynn & I had a very busy day on your departure date and this helped immensely. Sorry the snow never really materialised. Look forward to welcoming you back to Riggside in the summer.

“Ideally placed for Keswick, the Convention, and Lakes”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2016

A great base for the Convention. Seven of us stayed for a week, and found everything we needed to make it a great trip. Would definitely consider repeating. Owners especially helpful. Thank you!

Owner's reply: Another satisfied guest,, that why we do it! Thank for leaving it so tidy. Hope to see you at the convention 2017.

“Beautiful House with Awesome Views”

Reviewed 9 Feb 2016

Riggside is a beautiful property with everything that you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. Richard is customer focused and was very helpful in arranging a high chair for our stay. One of our party left an item behind but Richard arranged for it to be returned at his own expense. We will definately return at some point in the future.

Owner's reply: So glad you received your left item safely and that you enjoyed your stay - we very much look forward to seeing you again soon.

“A comfortable and well-furnished house in a pleasant location”

Reviewed 26 Oct 2015

This our third stay at Riggside. The house is beautifully decorated and provides excellent accommodation with beautiful views. It is spacious and in an excellent position in the North Lakes.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind review Veronique, we love to see guests return year on year. Looking at our stats we have over 30 families that have returned to Riggside, some as many as 6 times, I hope this is a reflection on the high standard of accommodation we deliver to our guests and of course the unbeatable location Riggside offers in the Lakes. Hope to see you again next year Kind regards Richard & Lynn
