Location description from owner
The England region
Cornwall has long been one of the most popular UK holiday destinations. The climate is the mildest in the UK along with a fantastic combination of natural attractions and a renaissance in arts and food in Cornwall. The area has something for everyone with breathtaking beaches, magnificent countryside, charming local villages and world class centres of cuisine and art. Cornwall is also home to internationally renowned tourist attractions including the Eden Project.
Porthtowan is one of the UK's top surfing beaches, bordered by soft white sand and rolling dunes while there are a number of quality shops, cafes and bars. One of the most popular with both visitors and locals is the Blue Bar, situated just at the edge of the beach, where in the bar's chilled out surroundings, you can relax with a drink, some good food and watch the sunset over the ocean. A Lifeguard service operates daily from May to September. The famous Cornwall coastal path runs right through Kingsley Cove, with some breathtaking walks right to the doorstep, and the beach and dunes of Porthtowan are just yards away. Porthtowan is a perfect balance between activities to keep all entertained, while maintaining a charming 'small village' feel that some coastal village lose due to overcrowding.

“A lovely surfing village and great location.”
Towan cottage is situated in a great location. The bedroom facilities are perfect for a family break. Booking was made easy and we enjoyed a family wedding locally at the Blue bar.
It was our first time at Porthtowan and we enjoyed it very much. The beach is big, sandy and flanked by cliffs. You can sit on a bench on the one side and look down on the sea or sit in the bar/cafes right on the edge of the beach. Great fish and chips at the local chippy - The Jolly Fryer. The house is over three storeys with kitchen/living room/extension on the ground floor with a small garden to sit out on to the rear. TV, WiFi and well equipped kitchen. If your party consisted of mostly adults there would be a seating issue as there is just a small sofa, a matching chair and an Ikea armchair that can be brought in from the extension which is really a short duration chair. Wasn't a problem for us but if we'd brought others it may have been. The first floor is a bunk bed room/bathroom and double bedroom (with views of beach). Bed was comfy and view was great. The upper floor is another double with a toilet/basin in a closed off room. Technically en-suite but not quite as glamorous as that sounds. We were comfortable there and settled in very quickly. The house is a beach house in the sense that it is a bit lived in. This isn't a bad thing at all and fits in very well with the feel of the area. The owner and the housekeeper were extremely friendly and helpful. We arranged our trip VERY last minute and they did all they could to help make it happen. Would we go again.....YES!
“Beautiful cottage in great location - highly recommended”
We stayed at Towan Cottage in August 2014 for a week and had a fantastic break. We were a group of 4 adults, 2 young children and 2 dogs and the house more than catered for our needs. The decor is fresh and appealing and there are some nice touches and an appropriate seaside theme throughout. The kitchen is well equipped and very clean, the shower is great and the additional en-suite is a useful bonus. The beds were lovely and the linen smelled amazing for the whole week, really fresh! The lounge/conservatory is a great space for an extended group and we had room to entertain the children at the table without disturbing the adults watching TV! Andy leaves some useful things for your use such as books, games and surfing equipment. The house is in a great location, a 5 minute walk to the beach, restaurants and an excellent ice cream parlour. There is a fabulous cliff side walk directly opposite the house and plenty of local facilities. The area does not lose it's 'private' feel as it is not too busy and doesn't have a lot of passing traffic so it is great if you are like us and don't like too many people around! Highly recommended and excellent value.
“Perfect Family accommodation”
Second time we have stayed here. Ideal for our young family. Less than 2 minute stroll to the beach.
“Perfect house and location”
We rented this house because my daughter was getting married at the Mount Pleasant Eco Park and we wanted something very convenient. The house is comfortable and has everything required including a dishwasher which really made it feel home from home! We had a small problem with the cold tap in the kitchen which would not turn off as it was so tight. Within minutes of calling I had a call from the housekeeper Sue and then the landlord Andy and the next day it was fixed! Good prompt service. I can't think of any criticism of this property and I will definitely be booking again the next time I go to Cornwall. We all loved it.
“Spacious, homely accommodation with the beach on your doorstep”
We had a weeks stay in Towan Cottage. As soon as we arrived we felt welcome, Towan Cottage feels like a home from home. Clean and bright with everything we needed for a comfortable family break. Great for us being so close to the beach, we could walk down to the beach in our wet suits with our boards for a surf. We enjoyed some fabulous walks along the beach in the early mornings and in the evenings watching the sunsets. Cosy having the wood burner in the evenings. The Village is very friendly and has a well stocked shop, the Unicorn is a great family pub and it's great to walk to the Blue Bar in the evening. A relaxing and enjoyable holiday. We will definitely return to Towan Cottage. Thank you Andy.
We were delighted with the house, and particularly its location. It was wonderful to be able to walk to the beach, and once there to enjoy clambering on rocks, body boarding, and so on - and to have lunch at the Blue Bar. It was also a very good base for day trips to the Eden Project and elsewhere. The owners had also taken great care to make the house comfortable for all ages (with a great range of beach books, body boards to borrow, games to play etc). We couldn't have asked for more.
“Amazing seaside experience”
We stayed for one week in May 2013 , We did not see a drop of rain all week , this allowed for evenings in the garden with a BBQ which . This house is a real find on holiday lettings and we will be booking again later in the year. The wood burner is very much appreciated on a chilly evening . The house is well stocked with all your living requirements . Above all it was clean. We had the bedroom on the top floor which was so cosy and we all slept well in our beds. The location is to die for as its a stones throw from the beach . The blue bar is a great spot for watching the sun set . This property is well worth the money and I would recommend it for young families and frail elderly people too. It is in a quiet little spot and the position is great for exploring Cornwall. I'm looking forward to my next visit already and will be making arrangements soon. Thank you Andy for being so easy to communicate with , A******** from all of my family .
“Great location within walking distance of the beach”
Towan Cottage is a surprisingly spacious house, which has everything you need for a short stay & is good value for money. Great location within a short walk to the beach and an easy drive to some of Cornwall's best scenic spots.
