The England region

Porthcothan Bay is a lovely family beach with plenty of sand at low tide and is great for surfing. The beach is surrounded by sand dunes and there are many rock pools next to the cliffs for children to explore. There is a local shop selling all your grocery needs including delicious locally made pasties and ice cream. They also hire out wet suits, body boards and deck chairs etc. The Tredrea Inn is just up the road and has a lovely big garden on the hill top over looking the bay - a magnificent way to spend the end of your day. There are many more fabulous beaches to discover all within easy reach and most are dog friendly.

The magnificent Eden Project is approximately 30 minutes drive and well worth a visit.

“The log burner in this property was improperly fitted and we could have died.”

Reviewed 18 Oct 2016

This property is lovely, in a nice quiet spot. Unfortunately the log burner had not been fitted to the correct safety standards & the insulation used was inadequate. if we had not acted quickly & had the fire brigade out, we could have all died.

The wood burner is 100% safe as evidenced by a Hetas/chimney sweep certificate. This unfortunate incident, which occurred in August, would have been prevented if barbeque coals had not been used! It is made very clear that only dry seasoned logs should be used in the log burner.

“Fantastic family holiday!”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2016

We stayed for a 2 week break along with my sister and her family. The cottage is superbly placed for exploring the wonders that Cornwall offers and the local beach is a 25 minute walk down the hill and beautiful. The cottage itself is amazing and so well equipped for families from the lovely big dinner table to the various games, books and dvd's (for the odd rainy day we had). The bottle of wine and biscuits left for us on arrival was a lovely touch and we felt at home as soon as we arrived. We will definitely be trying to book again to repeat our holiday in 2017 and create more memories in the wonderful Malt House.

“Lovely house, secluded setting”

Reviewed 3 Nov 2013

The Malthouse is a lovely secluded house and is furnished with everything you can think of from all the practical requirements through to games and music. It was warm and comfortable and the living space was ideal. Access to the house was the main issue as we had two elderly people with limited mobility and the path and foliage was rather a challenge. The downstairs bedroom was a little small but the upstairs rooms were a good size and the master suite was spacious and very comfortable. The beds were particularly comfortable. The house is some distance from shops (especially as the local store about a mile away has very limited opening hours out of season) and other facilities, although there is a lady in the village who sells cakes and preserves at her door, and everything we tasted was delicious. The house is ideal for anyone wanting a quiet getaway.

“A haven of tranquility not to be missed - a perfect holiday spot”

Reviewed 11 May 2013

After a fabulous weekend away at The Malthouse in November 2012, I had to write a recommendation as to how fabulous it is! Sarah and Ian have worked so hard to create a haven of peace and tranquillity. The house has been furnished to a first class standard with every detail taken care of, from amazingly comfy beds to a great sound system to a kitchen better equipped than mine! Tucked away down a quiet lane, the house is a short distance to the most amazing beach with great walks and views. One of many in the area. Padstow is a short drive away - we spent a whole day browsing the great shops and eating .... talking of which, we managed to visit 3 great eateries in our short stay, and there were tons of others. Spoiled for choice! And if you want to eat in, there's the lady down the road who sells her home-made goodies via a tray with an honesty box - perfect! If you're looking for a romantic getaway, a family holiday, a girlie trip or a get-together with your friends, I can't recommend The Malthouse enough - I fell in love with this part of Cornwall and can't wait to go back... xxxxx

“Amazing place to stay”

Reviewed 8 May 2013

The Malthouse is in a beautiful location, very close to the stunning Porthcothan beach where we spent hours exploring the rock pools and caves. With great access to so many places there is just so much to do, a week is not long enough to fit everything in. The camel trail is a must - a lovely bike trail along the camel estuary into Padstow which starts at Wadebridge. The house itself is exceptionally clean, spacious and well furnished…great for families! The lounge area is very cosy with loads of seating to for everyone to chill out with a glass (or three) of wine in front of the fire. Within minutes of arriving The Malthouse felt like home, we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay and will definitely be returning soon!!
