The Lotus Tree is located in one of the most beautiful diverse & unspoilt areas in Greece. Perfect for families and as a touring base with the Meteora Monastaries close by and activities offered from sailing & biking, to horse riding to Greek cooking lessons, reflecting Pelions unique combination of Sea, Mountain, Forest & local Culture.

THE PELION PENINSULA (location of the ‘Mama Mia’ movie) is unspoilt Greece at its best. ACCOMMODATION: Enjoy all this from your base, a Boutique A Class & newly renovated 1884 traditional Pelion Mansion house situated in the center of ‘Portaria’, the most popular & accessible village in Pelion, and within easy walk of its beautiful sister village 'Makrinitsa'. Restored over 5 years, this neoclassical mansion has outside terraces enjoying panoramic views over Pelion & the city of Volos and its 8 rooms have mountain views and are individually styled. Guests can enjoy drinks coffee at the lounge by the fireplace or on the terrace. A small library is available and a spacious hydro-massage facility which can be booked for exclusive use. Tthe main square, restaurants & shops are a minutes walk.

GETTING HERE: The local airport in Volos has many charter and regular international flights however the greatest choice is found by flying to Athens or Thessaloniki, then hiring a car to drive. The main road is excellent and the scenery along the way breathtaking. A car is essential also to make the most from this area which is ideal for touring. The Meteora monasteries are also within reach. Private transfers are also available on request.

Location description from owner

The Magnesia Region

Portaria is one of the 25 villages dotted throughout Pelion peninsula. A popular tourist destination for Greek visitors for over 60 years it is less well known outside Greece & well suited for families & groups wanting something more than the classic beach holiday. Although some of Greece's most famous beaches do lie at the foot of Pelion at 20 minutes drive, it is also possible to do horse riding, mountain biking, sailing etc. it is best known for the many forested paths enjoyed by hikers who return regularly throughout the year. Our recommendation is to do what the locals do which is to come for the scenery, the local food on offer at the restaurants which is very good value, to just enjoy the many spectacular views & do some touring of the many pretty villages. There are beautiful walking paths close by not to be missed & visits to the local crafts shops famous for producing sugared fruits and ornamental 'worry beads' as well as decorated local churches are of interest. A shopping trip to the Port city of Volos, home of Argonauts is worthwhile and for more activity the location is great for horse riding or mountain biking tours which are organised on request. Probably the best thing about the area is its diversity so its really up to the guest who has a very wide choice in the type of holiday they would like.
