Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Galloway is without doubt one of the most unspoilt parts of Scotland. It is the perfect place for a holiday and you will leave the area feeling relaxed and refreshed. Dumfries and Galloway is one of 32 unitary council areas of Scotland. It was one of the nine administrative 'regions' of mainland Scotland created in 1975 by the Local Government etcIt lies to the north of the Solway Firth and to the east of the Irish Sea. The region is well known for its many artists and writers.

Port William

Port William is only a mile or so from the cottage and you will find local shops here. From the 1770's a village and harbour have stood here, Port William is named after Sir William Maxwell of Monreith whose descendant Gavin Maxwell wrote The Ring of Bright Water and his memorial is high on the hill overlooking Monreith Bay. Nearby in Wigtown there is an annual book festival and there are lots of second hand bookshops to visit. The Wickerman festival takes place in July as well as the Wigtown show the local agricultural show. Please look on our facebook page through our website to see up to date information of all that is going on in the local area.

“Peaceful location”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2013

A peaceful location a nice place to relax and unwind. It had everything that WE wanted. Cosy at night in the conservatory listening to the sea and looking at the night sky. We shall return!
