We are easily accessible from the toll road or old national road in a quite residential area; with the main shopping district a mere 2kms away. Close by are several fine restaurants, local pubs & our local post office. Attractions abound with hiking inland at Oribi Gorge, coffee tasting at Beaver Creek Coffee farm & mountain biking at Clearwater Trails. Several world class golf courses are close by with the nearest one Port Shepstone Country Club being just five minutes away to the wonderful, intriguing San Lameer half an hours drive away.

The beach in Umtentweni has lifeguards on duty in season, sharks nets in the bay and a delightful "Granny's Pool" for those not too brave to challenge the open ocean. Fine surfing, fishing & diving take place here. Watch out whales form the whale deck during the months of May through to November when the annual migration from the warm waters off Mozambique to the Antarctic occur. Or go on a whale watching cruise from Shelly Beach approximately 10 kms away. many diving expeditions leave from here to tackle the world famous Protea Banks and Aliwal Shoal Reefs.

Come and join us in our bit of paradise, hear the sound of the sea at night and awake to joyous calls of the many birds to be found in our garden - especially the delightful sounds of our "happy whistler" - The gorgeous little Natal Robin. You will be assured of a warm welcome & a happy stay..........hope to see you here soon. Cheers Petra & Mike

Location description from owner

The KwaZulu-Natal region

The local region is famous for its 120 km coastline full of wonderful white beaches - some little tranquil havens sparsely populated with others being drawcards for hot summer festivals. Several beaches carry the coveted Blue Flag status and more are coming on stream.
The summer days are warm & humid with that sunny tropical feel whilst the winters are seldom icy cold, most often warm & temperate.

The regions abounds with several golf courses which offer the avid golfer a range of turf & difficulty. Nothing beats a superb round of golf over looking the sea with buck strolling the greens & wild monkeys scrambling over the dales. Winter is the ideal time to come to the coast to indulge in this magic sport - golf. From the majestic Selborne in the north to the intricate Wild Coast Sun in the south - all within an hours drive away from each other.

Inland lies the awesome Oribi Gorge with its hiking paths, wild adventure swings, zip lines & white water rafting. Game viewing is to be found here too, with sightings of Giraffe, Zebra & the indigenous petite Oribi buck. Leave your car at the main entrance and mountain bike through nature to the Suspension Bridge at Lake Eland or enjoy a picnic lunch in the nature reserve. A restaurant offers breakfast & lunch.

Towards the south lies the Red Desert, a tiny desert set amongst the green rolling hills overlooking the Umtamvuna Gorge. Take a walk or a mountain bike ride from Clearwater Estates down to the Beaver Creek Coffee farm where you can enjoy coffee tasting & light meals.

Birding in the area is fantastic as the region habitats range from coastal and wetland to forest, woodland & grassland. A Cape Vulture breeding colony has been established in the Oribi area - viewing at the vulture restaurant hide by appointment only.

Fishing, diving & surfing have long been attractions of the coast. Excellent day trips can be arranged to go diving at the 10th best dive site in the world - Aliwal Shoal located 5 km of the coast from nearest town of Umkomaas. As the reef is situated on the inside edge of the Mozambique current, the water is warm with great visibility. Expect to see Ragged Tooth Sharks, turtles, eels & Hammerhead Sharks.
Further south off the coast from Shelly Beach lies Protea Banks - a fossilised sandbank. As it lies 40 meters deep, this reef is most suitable for experienced divers only. It is rated as South Africa's number one dive spot and is rated as one of the top three in the world. Many divers come to the area in the winter months as the waters are calm, still warm and offer great visibility.
Whale watching has become increasingly more popular as the numbers of whales passing by on their annual migration from the Mozambique Channel down to Antarctica increase. Several companies offer day boat trips to watch these magnificent creatures journey past, with sightings of Humpback & Southern Right whales being quite common between the months of May through to November Also to be found along with sightings of dolphins & turtles.
