The Languedoc-Roussillon region
Situated in the south eastern part of France the region has lots to offer:
-Carcassonne,an idyllic castle town & UNESCO world heritage site and the setting for Labyrinth by Kate Mosse. In the summer months they hold jousting competitions exactly as they were held in mediaeval time with magnificent horses, costumes and much drama.
-Collioure, a spash of catalan culture, blessed with a privileged climate and a romantic setting, a beautiful fishing port where Picasso and Matisse stayed and painted. Visit the Bar du Templiers where these painters paid for their stay with paintings which still hang on the walls. Explore the small cobbled streets to find wonderful little cafes and restaurants and unusual shops or just soak up the atmosphere in the small harbour.
-Perpignan- wander through it's narrow lanes or join in the street festival every Thursday evening in August
-Barcelona-historic and beautiful, a 2 hour drive away
-Safari park at Sigean
-The Cathar castles of Queribus and Peyreperteuse perched on impossible cliff tops. Well worth the death defying drive through the mountains and the effort of the climb, the views are breathtaking.
-The Gorge of Galamus. Park your car at 9.00 am and walk the gorge. A two hour stroll through outstanding scenery and deep drops to the gorge bottom will leave you ready for an al fresco lunch at the Moulin at the end. Relax for a couple of hours here before strolling back to collect your car.
-The Little Yellow Train that travels through the Pyrenees. Take the trip starting at Villefranche de Conflent to Mont Louis-the station just before the highest point-this is the most popular trip. Be prepared to be rattled and thrown around corners as if on a fair ground ride,a truly memorable journey with every bend delivering a new breathtaking view.
-Agde on the Basin de Thau is worth driving to to see the water jousting in the summer months - full of excitement and many wet jousters! Some of the buildings in the town have outstanding wall paintings - trompe-l'oeil at its best.
-The Dali museum at Figueres, Spain. Only a 40 minute drive over the mountains will let you visit a museum housing the extraordinary art work of Salvador Dali. The museum itself is a fascinating piece of architecture.
There are many local places to visit for a memorable holiday:
-The beach at Port Leucate is vast and even at the height of summer there is no shortage of space and during high season lifeguards are on duty.
-The pretty marina of Port Leucate with it's many waterfront restaurants & bars.
-Leucate village with it's historic chateau, lighthouse and restaurants. Full of charm and french character.
-Sample the delicacies of oysters, mussels, wine and cheese from the local area.
-L'Etang, where you can learn to wind-surf, tele-ski, sail, hire a pedaloe or boat.
-Port Leucate -Rope adventure park, Aqualand-Water park - both close to Marina Plage.
-Local vineyards at Fitou, Corbiere or Minervois.
-Golf course at St. Cyprien
-The Domaine de Rombeau in Rivesaltes is worth a trip for a truly gourmet experience. A true Catalan gem and has been in the de la Fabregue family for centuries. The menu is typically Catalan and many of the dishes are cooked over an open fire using vine cuttings.

"Good Location for a water based holiday"
Ideal location if you have a boat we had a kayak which was used most days, local beaches very good and not crowded. Accommodation was good with terrace direct on to lake beach, we had everything that we needed. Constructive criticism would be, the place needs a little bit of TLC, cupboard doors were loose and needed adjusting, the downstairs toilet seat was broken and the rear downstairs electric shutters would not operate. It would have been nice to have seen the owner's agent to point these issues out. apart from that the surrounding area was lovely, the local restaurant 'La Sardine' was excellent.
Thank you for your feedback. We have had a very busy season with lots of people renting the house so it has been well used. The house will be unavailable during the winter due to a scheduled renovation project. All the issues mentioned will be addressed.

"Lovely Lakeside setting"
This property has a lovely feel with the lake setting very relaxing, ideal for watersports. Its also close to the beach and the port had some lovely places to eat. The market in the port is lovely to browse for trinkets and very good for food, fresh bread and cheeses for lunch. There are lots of places nearby to visit for days out. The house has a traditional french feel to it! lovely balcony area to sit out in the evenings and enjoy a meal with a glass of wine with the view of the lake!

"A delightful lake side property - good value for a family or large party."
A clean, comfortable and well appointed holiday home with the added benefit of a lovely lakeside location - ideal for water sports. The patio area was perfect for outdoor dining only metres from the water's edge. However, the house was spacious enough to live indoors if the weather turned.

"A well appointed, comfortable, lagoon-side residence with beautiful views"
I stayed here with friends on a long weekend. The residence is part of a modern, gated community, very easy to access by car, clean and well maintained. The property is well appointed to a good level with everything you might need for short or longer stays. The centre of Porte Leucate with its numerous shops, bars and restaurants is only 5 minutes away on foot. The undoubted highlight of the property is its lagoon-side location, sliding doors from the extended living room downstairs opening directly onto a patio and then to the shore allowing easy swimming, sunbathing or water sport activities. The local sailing club where you can hire a variety of boats is less than 5 minutes walk away. Longer trips can easily be made with a car to Perpignon with its medieval centre and to the Pyrenees for walking/skiing/mountain biking only an hour away.
