“A mixed bag”

Reviewed 26 Jul 2013

The location of this quirky cottage cannot be bettered. It is right on the slipway and we were able to watch all the harbour activity day and night from the sofa - 10/10 for location. The apartment was clean and tidy and nicely decorated, linen and towels were lovely. 10/10 The size of the apartment is fine for two people but would be very cramped for 4 people - the living area in particular is tiny. 5/10 for space The amenities are poor - the TV is the size of a computer screen, there is no dishwasher and no rack to hang washing on. And there is no internet access - 5/10 However the biggest issues came from the downstairs restaurant (and not from their food or service both of which were great) whenever it was cooking. The extraction system vents somehow into the dressing room - the apartment and your clothes will be subjected to the smell of fish. It is also quite noisy and can be heard very clearly in the bedroom at night if you happen to go to bed before the kitchen closes. The bedroom is located over the kitchen and as noted in another review you can actually hear the conversations of the kitchen staff. If you don't keep your clothing in the dressing room and you only retire after 11:30 at night neither of these things will likely bother you. We found them to be very annoying especially given the high price tag associated with staying here - 3/10. I raised this issue with the rental company who did take the time to reply and informed me no one else had ever complained about it and they would monitor the feedback. I would take this opportunity to direct them to the review on this site of 5 Nov 12 which raises the issue of noise and that of 16 Nov 12 which talks about the smell. The visitor book also mentions these issues. 2/10 for the Management Company response to issues. Value for money - 5/10 To summarise - we loved Port Isaac, we loved the apartment location but there are plenty of other places to stay which are bigger, cheaper, have internet and no restaurant smells and noise.

“Superb location but a bit pokey!”

Reviewed 4 Nov 2012

So the pro's: apartment is right on the harbour and great for watching the world go by over your morning coffee, and very convenient for the few shops, bars and restaurants in Port Isaac. The living room/kitchenette are nicely done as is the master bedroom albeit small. The 2nd bedroom looked fine but we didn't use it and there was an extra room that we used as a dressing room which was handy. The con's: My main gripe would be the complete lack of instructions (how to work the storage heaters, what to do with rubbish etc). And I knew it was an old fisherman's cottage so was prepared for it to be a bit pokey but it is very small. And if you had 4 adults staying it would be tricky (eating in shifts I reckon!). And lastly the bathroom needs some attention. It is not up to the relatively high standards of the rest of the apartment. And if I'm being particularly picky, you can hear the kitchen staff in the restaurant below. And I mean the actual conversations. which is not ideal first thing in the morning and last thing at night. All in all we actually had a good week there despite my gripes, but for the money I think you could expect a half decent bathroom with an extractor fan!

Thank you for taking the time to review Harbour Loft. We truly value the opinions of our customers and we are glad to hear that most aspects of the property met your expectations, but are sorry that there are areas that you feel need improvement and would like to apologize and thank you for highlighting these areas for us . Your comments have been passed to the owner of the property and action has been taken to re-decorate the bathroom and ensure instructions are left at the property. The owner is investigating ways of better soundproofing between the apartment and the restaurant below and we will monitor the feedback. The property is being advertised a suitable to accommodate two adults and two children, however, we will look at how we can make this clearer in light of you comment. Thank you again for your feedback and we do hope that you will book through Cornish Traditional Cottages again where I am sure your expectations will be met.
