Location description from owner

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

One of the most beautiful unspoilt spots in the South of France bordering Provence and the Camargue. This historical location is close to stunning Mediterranean beaches and resorts. Nearby is the Camargue National Park which is famous for its wildlife - white horses, black bulls and pink flamingoes. Within an easy drive there is access to Roman Amphitheatres at Arles and Nmes and for a day trip try the Ardeche Gorges and Cevenes Mountains.

The Languedoc-Roussillon is one of the most fascinating areas of Europe, bordering the Mediterranean Sea to the east and the Pyrenees Mountains to the south. It benefits from an exceptional climate (280 - 300 sunny days per year) and has an unusually rich wildlife, a spectacular coast and surprising history.

Things to see include mountains, rivers and lakes, ancient cities, towns, villages, vineyards, thermal springs, abbeys, and cathedrals, chteaux and castles and notably the famous mountain fortresses popularly known as Cathar Castles. It possesses a number of World Heritage sites, including Carcassonne, the Canal du Midi, and the Pont du Gard.

Port Du Roy

In 1240, Saint Louis decided to build a walled city - Aigues Mortes - close to his kingdom in order to have a direct access to the Mediterranean Sea. Seven centuries later, the fortification still dominates the Camargue as one of the most well preserved medieval French buildings.

Today, Aigues Mortes preserves its bull-fighting traditions, including bull branding. Blessed with a clear climate and unique vegetation, the region of Aigues-Mortes can be explored all year long whether on foot, on horseback, by bike or even on safari in a 4x4 or by boat.

Hire your own boat, and use the private mooring, for picnics along the canal or take it for day trips out to the Mediterranean sea. Book a canal boat trip to explore the area .

There are restaurants and bars located in the walled city and Le Grau du Roi with more extensive nightlife in Grande Motte and Montpellier.

You can walk and cycle safely along the canals and also to the nearest beach at Le Grau du Roi. There are many other spectacular seaside resorts in the area, Ste Marie de la Mer, unspoilt L'Espiguette and Grande Motte.

“Perfect holiday stay on the Marina.”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2016

We enjoyed our stay at this villa so much, that we extended our holiday here. The villa is a home from home with everything to make your stay comfortable. Lovely, quiet setting with just a 10 minute walk into the picturesque town of Aigues-Mortes. It was a real bonus having the use of 2 bikes! Highly recommended.

“Lovely villa”

Reviewed 14 Aug 2013

This is a lovely villa on a marina. Air conditioned throughout and with a patio and hot tub. 20 minute walk into the delightful walled town of Aigues Mortes. Well-equipped kitchen, Tv with English channels, very clean. Not cheap in high season, but 4 sharing the cost made it good value.

“Location, Location, Location!”

Just spent 2 wonderful weeks in this superb villa and didn't want to leave! The villa itself is extremely spacious and clean, with all mod cons and everything you could wish for and more! But for us, the best thing about it was its location: Only a few minutes walk to Aigues mortes' walled town which is so pretty and full of shops and restaurants, the villa itself is really well situated in the marina, with lovely views and all day sunshine and is so peaceful and quiet that you are guaranteed a very good night sleep! The local beach "L'espiguette" is superbly unspoiled and even in the hight of the season never felt over crowded (and in our opinion, much quieter, bigger and better that the beaches of the grau du roi). Our holiday highlight though (if we had to pick just one!) was an evening trip on a catamaran from the port of the grau du roi : Only 4 euros per person for what was supposed to be a 30 minutes trip but lasted more like 45 minutes and took us for a tour of the local marinas. The sunset we witnessed was just amazing! ( they do trips all through the day but we chose the 9 pm one and it was really worth it!).All in all, a wonderful holiday and a very highly recommended villa!

“A luxurious villa in a convenient location within an interesting area.”

Reviewed 12 Jul 2012

We cannot praise this spacious villa enough. Luxuriously and tastefully appointed, extremely comfortable with all the home comforts one could want. The dual aspect roof terrace is fabulous and ensures sunny/shady areas all day, the balcony from the master bedroom is a bonus and the main terrace area provides the icing on the cake - a wonderful hot tub/spa. The villa's location is very quiet yet only a short walk from the walls of Aiguies Mortes. Alternatively, as the villa is right on the canal, it is possible to hire a boat to explore the interesting waterways around and about. or easily cycle to the beach using the bikes provided by the owners. We would certainly love to visit again.

“Highly recommended luxury villa in a marina complex in Aigues Mortes”

Reviewed 19 May 2012

My husband and I and our 7yr old spend a wonderfully relaxing 5 days at this luxury villa. I would definitely recommend it for short breaks and longer holidays. We chose to hire a car from Montpelier airport and were literally relaxing on the villa's patio 20 mins later! The villa has a perfect position on a quiet, marina canal development with a contained sunny, patio decked area (complete with hot tub - which our 7yr old loved!) overlooking the marina. The villa was immaculately clean, comfortably furnished throughout with pretty much every creature comfort and detail having been thought of and provided for by the owners. Aigues Morte, a quaint, walled town, is a 10 min pleasant walk away with plenty of restaurants, al fresco dining, shops and a WiFi cafe for those needing to be connected. The supermarkets are fairly close and the surrounding Camargue region is well worth exploring - the local beaches, a ride on the white Camargue horses, the vineyards, etc. Of course, a trip to France would be incomplete without sampling the local wines or simply watching the world go by in a cate with a coffee and a croissant! We had a lovely time and hope to return.

“A fantastic holiday home in a great location, surrounded by stunning views & many beautiful beaches!”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2011

We've just spent 10 days in this wonderful home, in a truly great location. Every single ‘home from home’ comfort has been well thought about, from beach towels to hot tube to even a surround sound TV/DVD! Located within a gated marina with it's own mooring the views were just breathtaking. We found many stunning beaches all within 15 minutes of the house. The town itself is really buzzing but with not any noisy bars or nightclubs! Within the walled city we found some really great restaurants and lovely cafe's. Montpellier is only 20mins away by car and well worth a day trip, it’s a very pretty town and full of great shops. Without question we will be back, soon I hope!
