Very Good

“A cosy and welcoming cottage in a beautiful location”

Reviewed 29 Oct 2017

We have just returned from a most enjoyable week at Bothan Darach. The cottage is lovely. It is spacious and very well equipped. It is clearly well loved by the owners which gives it that cosy and welcoming feel. It was a joy to return to the cottage and the log fire after a day hiking in the rain! Unfortunately we didn’t meet Dennis but he was beyond helpful in the run up to the holiday, providing a wealth of information about the area, handy tips and a very thoughtful welcome basket full of Scottish treats! The area was lovely too - we hiked, sea kayaked and mountain biked. We ate in two lovely restaurants - The Pierhouse Hotel & Seafood Restarant (great lobster) and The Old Inn (great steak). A great place to recharge the batteries!

Owner's reply: We are so delighted you & your family had an enjoyable time.

“Fourth time we have stayed - says it all really !!”

Another lovely time was had by dogs & humans despite the pretty awful weather. Bothan Darach is ideally suited for staying in when you can't get out as much as you would like. Plenty of room to spread out & do your own thing - mine is doing jigsaws in upstairs living room. All in all we love it!!

“Great Weekend Break”

Reviewed 12 Oct 2013

This is a lage, spacious cottage in the tiny village of Port Appin. The best thing about it was the space - 2 living rooms, 4 bedrooms and lots of bathrooms and a large private garden. The kitchen is well equipped & the owner kindly left a hamper of food. There are lovely views from the upstairs rooms & lots to entertain the kids - DVD's, books, games and good internet connection for somewhere so remote- there was a great log fire in living room which was roaring very night. The house is walking distance to the local grocery shop and The Pierhouse Hotel, which has a great pub and restaurant. There are really beautiful walks from the house & a trip to Lismore Island - you can also rent bikes nearby & fish. All in all a great place to spend a long weekend in September if you need a refreshing break, some exercise with a bit of sea air.

“Excellent Accommodation”

Reviewed 13 Jun 2011

Dennis and Katie were there to welcome us to their cottage with a hamper full of goodies and a fridge stocked with the basics for our week long stay. Everything you could possible want or need is available to use and the cottage was definitely a home from home. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side during our stay but the central heating and open fire kept us nice and snug when we returned from our walks drenched and tired. The upstairs lounge has a fantastic view and was very comfortable, as was the main lounge and the all the beds. We didn't get to use the two decked areas in the large garden - due to the weather - but I should imagine they are an excellent place to chill out of an evening or even dine on. On the whole the cottage is an wonderful base to come back to when you have been out walking or site seeing. It is ideally situated for east access to Oban, Fort William and umpteen other places to visit.

“Beautiful Location, Lovely House, Great Service”

Reviewed 20 May 2011

Stayed here in July 2010 (and in 2009). Kate and Dennis are fantastic hosts and really make you feel welcome and are very attentive to you needs. The house is very close to the sea and the upstairs sitting room is great to relax in and watch the world (and the yachts) go by. The house is well stocked with everything you could want from the utensils in the kitchen to the games and books in the sitting room. There is wireless broadband so I could bring along my laptop and use it to scout out places to see and restaurants to eat at. Port Appin is a good central location to get around the west coast. Glen Coe is up the road and places like Inverary and Loch Ness are within a few hours. Port Appin itself is right next to the island of Lismore which is a wonderfully serene island. There is a place in Port Appin you can hire bikes and take them across on the little ferry for a bike ride. There are also a couple of nice restaurants on the way down to the Ferry though one is quite pricey. I can't recommend this house, and the couple who run it, enough. Having sailed off the west coast in this area as well it really is a beautiful spot and sitting upstairs watching the sun go down and seeing the nearby lighthouse winking as night falls is quite a sight.

“great views and location only sorry when we had to leave!”

we have stayed at this property 3 times now and are booked to visit again! the owners are so lovely and helpful nothing is too much trouble for them. They provide a lovely welcome basket which really is full of luxuries - many properties we have been to before you were lucky to get a tea bag and some milk! such a lovely home from home and with some many accessories - its puts your own home to shame for being well equipped! we love it and am sure you would too!
