Poros is the island of peace, romance and jauntiness. It is overgrown with pine trees which reach the rugged shores or the sandy beaches. The residents of Poros like in all islands are, spontaneous, decent and hospitable.
Poros is magical island surrounded by pine, olive and lemon trees. The beauty of this place has impressed and has been praised
by prominent literary people such as the Greek nobelist Giorgos Seferis and the American writer Henry Miller.
On the eastern side of the island it is worth visiting the Monastery Zoodochos Pigi (18th century), built on a green slope with a view to the sea. Further north you reach the remains of the Doric Temple of Poseidon (6th century BC) made of blue limestone with 34 columns. This place was a sacred asylum for fugitives and castaways.
There are plenty of beaches all around the island (Kanali, Askeli, Monastiri, Neorio, Rossikos, Vagionia etc), all easily accessed with regular bus services.
Poros has a lot of footpaths for trekking but you can also hire bicycles or mopeds or even go horse riding. All kind of water sports are available on the main beaches.
Poros town is full of tavernas, restaurants, cafes, tourist shops and bars along the seafront but also in the backstreets.
