From the owner

As a young person living in Brighton, my trips home were vital to my well being. Walking everyday on Exmoor, come rain or shine, is amazingly refreshing. With this in mind my intention was to create a comfortable, creative space where this refreshment can be found. Having worked in hospitality, the experience of creative excellence has inspired me to make my guests' stay special.

There are cosy slippers and gowns, lovely linen, a double ended bath and a large separate shower. We also have high quality king size beds in both bedrooms, one of which can be split into two singles, thus ensuring peace and quiet for a good night's sleep after a stunning a country walk. Heating is via the latest Dimplex electric radiators with extra heating in the lounge and bathroom.

Puffins is a ground floor apartment in the centre of Porlock, just a short walk to the local shops, pubs and restaurants. Renovations were completed in August 2015 and although not equipped for disabled guests, there is suitable access. In essence, Puffins is created for guests who like a little luxury with a creative flair.

Porlock is a working village set in the heart of Exmoor with walks from your doorstep or just a short drive away. Porlock has a selection of shops for day to day needs as well as art, craft, antique and clothing shops alongside pubs, restaurants and coffee shops.

From my studio across the path from Puffins, I sell my artwork and offer art lessons (please contact us for details). We also have a small Gallery on Porlock High Street which showcases my husband David's photos alongside my paintings.

Our intention with Puffins has always been to provide the type of place that we would love to stay, to that end we are always looking at the service and facility we provide to continue to improve or maintain the quality. In addition we are happy to provide local knowledge of the area, suggestions of places to visit and guide to eating out. We will, as time permits, produce a booklet of the area with photos and map references but in the meantime guests are free to ask, below are a few places to consider. How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send David (the owner) a message.

If David (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
