Description

As the name suggests, Groomscott Apartment has been converted from grooms quarters and the harness room into holiday accommodation that is ideal for couples looking for a base for walking and sightseeing. Groomscott is situated on the outskirts of Porlock for people to enjoy all that Exmoor and this traditional village has to offer.

Groomscott Apartment is accessed via a short drive off the main road leading into Porlock. From the allocated parking space, a garden path leads you to the apartment at the rear of the owners property. The entrance takes you straight into the open plan living room and kitchen; the bedroom has twin beds and en-suite shower room. French doors open onto a pretty private garden with outside seating.

Appliances and equipment
The kitchen is fitted with fridge, freezer, microwave and electric oven with hob. Other equipment includes toaster, kettle, a variety of kitchen utensils, cutlery, crockery and glasses.

A television with freeview and DVD player is provided in the living area. Wireless internet is being fitted in the near future, but is not presently available.

Electricity and heating
Electricity and heating costs are included in the price of your accommodation. Groomscott Apartment has central heating which is programmed for you but can be adjusted to suit your preferences. An additional electric heater is also be provided should you require it.

Linen and towels
Bed linen, duvets, blankets and towels are provided for your convenience, but please bring your own beach towels if you wish to take towels with you on day trips.

Other provisions
A small amount of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits are provided to ensure you can have a hot drink as soon as you arrive.
Cleaning materials such as washing up liquid will be present in the property. One or two toilet rolls will be provided.

Outside the property
French doors open onto a private patio and lawned area with views away towards Hurlestone Point and Selworthy Beacon.

Parking
Off-road parking for one car is available; this area is shared by Groomscott Apartment and Little Court Apartment (one parking space for each property). A short walk along a graveled footpath leads you around the owners garden to the Apartment.

Local amenities
The village of Porlock is less than 1/2 mile from Groomscott Apartment and boasts three pubs, two grocery shops, a traditional local butcher, chemist, cash machine, petrol station, hardware shop, visitor centre and a range of independent restaurants, shops and tea rooms.

The harbour at Porlock Weir is approximately 1.5 miles further on from Porlock. There are two restaurants, a pub and a range of individual shops such as tea rooms, Exmoor Glass and Studio 7 (imported beautiful textiles).

Many of the shops in Porlock and Porlock Weir are open during traditional hours of 9 am to 5 pm, although hours are often extended during the summer season. Conversely, some shops also reduce their opening hours out of season.

Minehead is the nearest town, approximately 6 miles from Porlock. Here you will find the larger supermarkets and petrol stations (Tesco and Morrison's are both situated on the outskirts of the town and have longer opening hours), most major high street banks with cash machines, plus a range of other shops throughout the town.

Arrival and departure
The property will be ready from 4 pm on the day of your arrival. Please depart by 10 am on the last day of your stay. Please leave the property clean and tidy so that we can guarantee it will be ready on time for our next guests.

Changeover days
Groomscott Apartment is available for week breaks (Friday to Friday) during the peak season (from May to September). Short breaks of three or four nights (from Friday to Monday or Monday to Friday) are available from October to April (excluding Christmas, Easter, etc). Exmoor really has something for everyone, it is a place full of contrasts; dramatic coastlines of plunging cliffs, sheltered bays and historic ports, wide open space and wilderness of the moors as well as the wooded valleys with quiet trails for you to enjoy. Exmoor is a holiday destination of unrivalled beauty and interest.

There is so much to see and do on Exmoor - here are some of our suggestions. The local Visitor Centres will also be able to provide you with a vast amount of information about the area and suitable attractions.

Porlock

Often described as 'the jewel in Exmoor's crown', Porlock has a long history of settlements existing on or near the site of the existing village, with stone-age remains only a short distance away. Porlock is a working village and boasts a number of pubs, restaurants, tea rooms and independent shops. There few more delightful surroundings than Porlock Vale, nestled at the foot of Porlock Hill, bounded to the north by its shingle ridge and breath taking views towards the Bristol Channel, and to the south by the rolling hills of the Exmoor National Park. The Exmoor coastline is formed mainly of cliffs but at Porlock the land flattens out and a unique mile long shingle ridge and an inland salt marsh have formed. For the bird watcher this is a very interesting site as a great variety of waders and wildfowl can be seen here in the winter as well as the occasional unusual bird passing through.
