"A wonderful rural retreat in beautiful Istria"
We haven't visited Croatia before but will definitely return. Istria is incredibly beautiful and we couldn't have picked a better property to stay in. It is in a tiny rural hamlet and we spent many pleasant evenings drinking wine on the balcony, watching the sun set over the farm buildings and vineyards beyond. We were surrounded by every kind of farm animal - geese, hens, pigs and the rare Istrian cattle that provide an Istrian speciality beef dish, which we never got round to trying. Istria is the food capital of Croatia and we thoroughly enjoyed eating out - especially the fresh fish dishes. We visited nearby Poric, Pula, with its Roman amphiteheatre, Rovinj, which was our favourite seaside town, with fishermen mending their nets in boats in the harbour, and Montovan, perched on a hillside with amazing views of the rolling countryside. The property is much more spacious than we had anticipated and is incredibly comfortable with every convenience. We even had our own coffee making machine. With a sweeping marble staircase, spacious rooms, a pool, a large garden and driveway and electric gates, we lived it up in style and comfort. The owner, Claudio, is completely charming and spoilt us with grapes from the family's vines, home-made wine and grappa, and sweet confectionery. His friend, Jelena, who is the contact/agent, is wonderful too. Despite having a new baby, Ivan, she asked up to come over to her home on the other side of the penninsula where she recommended we visit a medieval town and a beautiful island. Sadly, we didn't make it - but there's always next year.
Thank you very much for these nice words and that you tell about your impressions of Istria. We are so happy that you really enjoyed. Klaudio is always talking that you were so kind and that you enjoyed in simplicity of rural Istria. We are proud that you have so many memories from your holiday. You have visited plenty of places, but to discover more of what Istria offers, as you say, you really need to come back. All the best to all of you, and good bye to your next visit to Istria. It was really a pleasure having you as our guests!
