The extended first floor showcases a feature bedroom with large family bathroom and another good sized double bedroom.

All rooms are sympathetically decorated and fitted with contemporary designed furniture and fittings The lounge has a modern closed inset Log burning fire place to complement the sumptuous comfortable “slouchy” corner sofa and matching “love seats” together with a 51” modern smart tv.

The kitchen / diner is similarly well equipped with a newly fitted modern kitchen and dining table with seating for eleven. The dining area overlooks the balcony area with views of the canal and countryside

The building itself is set in perfectly relaxing grounds which borders the Monmouthshire Brecon canal, the rear lawns sweeping down to the waters edge. A large raised composite decking area constructed at the rear of the house is accessed via large bi-fold doors leading from either the lounge or kitchen / dining areas. This provides the perfect platform to relax whilst taking in the magnificent scenery / views which is beset with wildlife such as a resident family of hedgehogs, ducks , herons, moorhens and a variety of other winged wildlife. A gas fired barbecue is available for guests.

Two canoes and a rowing boat are available for use on the canal by guests, as are 6 cycles should you wish to adopt a more vigorous way to explore the cycle path along the banks of the canal. This path is accessible for over 30 miles towards Brecon for cyclists, walkers and boats alike. It is possible to hire a variety of larger boats / barges for the day from Goytre Warf a short 30 minutes cycle ride away .

The Canal is well stocked with a variety of fish so fishing is available from the banks of the garden with several rods and fishing gear available for use.

Apart from the activities available at the holiday home the following activities are accessible and within easy reach from “Caithness” – Sailing and lake canoeing at Llandegfed Reservoir, Dry Slope skiing at Pontypool Park / Leisure Centre, Go Karting at Little Mill Go Kart Centre. For Golfers there are several interesting local golf courses nearby not forgetting the prestigious Celtic Manor golf course, which was home to the Ryder Cup in 2010. Also a variety of local walks are available which can take in the ”Shell grotto” in Pontypool park, and the nearby Folly tower on the site a former Roman watch tower and of course towards Abergavenny , the famous Sugar Loaf mountain.

Other places of interest to the north include the Blaenavon World Heritage site, where one can visit an example of a deep working coal mine also taking in the local iron works and museum. While in the other direction Caerleon is the site of a Roman Fortress and baths with some well preserved remains available along with an interesting museum. Further south Cardiff Bay is a modern example of how a tidal barrage can help the regeneration of a declining area. Many other smaller towns nearby such as Abergavenny, Crickhowell, Monmouth and Usk have a wide range of hostelries to choose from and provide opportunities to explore and experience a particular style of welsh culture synonymous with this area.

“What a lovely house!”

Reviewed 29 Oct 2016

Our party consisted of two families. We had four teenagers and an 11 year old between us....and the house pleased everyone! The games room was a real hit and a lot of time was spent there by the teenagers. Having wifi provided, we knew that they would be happy. The kitchen and bathrooms had a real "wow" factor. The beds were all comfortable and what gorgeous views from the bedrooms at the back! It would perhaps be useful to have one of the bedrooms set up as a twin to give even more flexibility. We also took advantage of the use of the boat and kayaks on the canal at the bottom of the garden, which was great fun! Close to Cardiff and the Brecon Beacons, there is plenty to do. John, the owner, kept in contact and answered any questions promptly. We all LOVED this house and would definitely like to return for a longer visit next time!! We all loved this
