Yoho Cottage is one of 5 traditional cottages on the hill leading into Polzeath from the Trebetherick side. The accommodation has been arranged to make the most of the views from the front & back of the property. It features 3 bedrooms and a cloakroom (with shower) downstairs and a large open plan lounge, kitchen/diner upstairs along with the family sized bathroom.Outside there is a large split level patio at the front giving wonderful views of Polzeath village and the beach. Leading off the dining area upstairs is a large decked area giving glimpses of Pentire Point and out to sea. “Beware...Not what it says on the can!”

We booked Yo Ho on the excellent reviews. We were extremely disappointed that the accommodation is not what it appears to be on this website. Positives include a good location close to the beach and shops, great cafe and meeting place across the road in the Tubestation Church building which is a fantastic gathering place on rainy days for kids, families and pooches. Easy access to fantastic cliff walks and beaches and by car to villages like Padstow, Rock and good shopping in Wadebridge. Yo Ho is a very compact cottage with 3 bedrooms downstairs which is fine but the back 2 bedrooms are below ground level and look out onto a grimy green wall 2 feet from the windows. There is a covered decking roof overhead of this "passage" which blocks out light and fresh air and water streams down the walls making the area outside the bedrooms dark, damp and green with mould. The smell and dankness was overwhelming. This passage is disgusting with a small drain for runoff which was clogged with grime. The bedrooms were dank and our grandchildren developed croupy coughs at night sleeping there. My son and his wife had to vacate their bedroom as it was so musty at night. One night we stepped onto 3 huge slugs on the bedroom floor which must have come in through the slightly opened window. The bedroom curtains are mouldy and filthy along the bottom which really convinced us that they had not been laundered for a very long time. Embarrassingly disgraceful to be honest! WiFi is not available in the cottage. The signal comes in from the neighbouring camp site but it is so weak that one can only pick up a signal by standing on the edge of the outside wall and then it is very weak and drops continuously. No WiFi within the cottage exists. The cottage front door opens onto the main road through the village and it is a steep, busy road. Dangerous for children and dogs and no place to park to off load a car. Parking is about 10 minutes walk up the road so inconvenient especially with babies and in the rain. The upstairs area is pleasant but compact. Kitchen is not well equipped. No plastic storage dishes, crockery basic, cooking utensils basic and poor quality cutlery. Not what a luxury cottage should supply. Very disappointing indeed. We had to go out and purchase some basic items to cater for the week. We did complain to the manager, Paul Ramsbottom, and he sent a workman around to unblock the overflowing shower drain and fix a couple of things but he said they would only clean the filthy exterior when our week was completed. An expensive week and very, very disappointing! Appalling in fact.

Sometimes you get the impression that some people only go on holiday in order to complain, this seems to be the case here as all of the points this family mention are grossly exaggerated. The previous guests we had stay in this cottage loved their first visit so much they booked again for 2017 for 2 weeks before they left to go home. Most of our guests are repeat guests which i think speaks volumes. There was an issue with the Wi-fi, but this has just been upgraded to super fast fibre broadband so shouldn't suffer any further issues. The shower drain that was "blocked" was only blocked by the guest who had obviously been putting children in sandy wetsuits through the shower and therefore clogged the drain with sand, something i'm sure they wouldn't dream of doing in their own property. The "overwhelming" bad smell they mention was non - existent as no one else could smell anything untoward, neither the maintenance man, the 2 cleaners or my colleague and i could smell anything. The front door in fact opens out on to a gated forecourt approx 20ft from the road, so is quite safe for children & dogs, the parking is approx 200 yards away, so how it took them 10 minutes to walk it is beyond me. How you can complain about slugs coming in through an open window is also beyond me, not quite sure what i could do to stop that. As for the curtains "not having been laundered" for a long time, they were in fact brand new in April. In terms of crockery, this family was obviously expecting a fine bone china royal doulton dinner service, as the kitchen is well equipped and stocked with pretty much anything you could need. I am very sorry that this particular family didn't enjoy their stay, i'm not sure what they were expecting and can only conclude that they didn't read the property description before booking and were expecting to stay in a larger, more secluded property.
