Description

Set in a peaceful semi-rural position with stunning views over the mouth of the river Magra, this traditional Tuscan stone house is ideally located to explore the nearby Cinque Terre and the Lunigiana region. The property is detached, with nearby traditional houses permanently occupied by Italian neighbours. It has two traditionally furnished bedrooms, a modern shower room and open-plan living/kitchen/dining room, with a cosy wood burner should the nights turn chilly. However it's likely that you'll want to spend your evenings on the large sheltered terrace which looks out towards the river mouth and the surrounding hills. All living accommodation is on a single level and it's possible to drive right up to the front door, making it suitable for less mobile guests. (Private off-road parking is around 50 metres from the house). The world famous Cinque Terre and the Gulf of Poets (including the seaside resort of Lerici) are around 30 minutes away. Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

Montedivali rustico is located in the rural green area of north-west Tuscany, known as Lunigiana. The area is becoming increasingly popular with lovers of Italy seeking to find a new region to explore. With the world famous UNESCO heritage site of the Cinque Terre less than 30 minutes drive from the house, typical Italian seaside resorts such as Lerici close by, the stunning Appenine National Park and the ancient Tuscan city of Lucca within an hour's drive, there is always plenty to do.Throughout the summer season, every village in the area hosts a Sagra - essentially a party that everyone's invited to, where you can sample local food specialities and join in the dancing. Look out for posters for these along every main road.If you come in winter, the ski resorts of Cerreto Laghi and Prato Spilla are an around an hour's drive. If skiing isn't your thing you can still enjoy a walk in the snowy countryside, followed by a wood-oven cooked pizza. And all year round it's possible to enjoy walking the well-marked footpaths that abound in the Lunigiana region and neighbouring Garfagnana.

Podenzana

Within half an hour you can be on the beach - or in the mountains. Towns and cities all easily accessible and worth exploring include Lerici, Portovenere, La Spezia, Pontremoli and Lucca. The area is dotted with hilltop towns and medieval castles including Bagnone and Fosdinovo. If you enjoy eating out, within five kilometres of the house there are popular restaurants offering local specialities and fish dishes. Shops offering daily essentials are also within a few minutes drive. And if you enjoy cooking while you're on holiday there's a market every single day somewhere in the Lunigiana region, with fresh fish available straight from the boats at Lerici and Portovenere.
