“Well equiped home in lovely location, great for groups and families”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2013

This property exceeded our expectations - spacious, sunny and in a lovely setting. Its best feature was a conservatory that captured the sun all day and seated our group of five adults easily for leisurely lunches and suppers, while either side were outdoor terraces where you could sunbathe in peace and privacy, or in the garden below. There were four good sized double bedrooms, three bathrooms and a well-equipped kitchen. There was also an indoor dining area and a comfortable living room with a HD television and a selection of recent movies, useful for young adults on quieter nights in. The owner, Jean-Jacques, greeted us on arrival and took time to answer our questions and recommend places to visit. The house perches on a hillside in the small village of Plouhinec, which has a couple of bars, a pizzeria, and a convenient Carrefour supermarket, with fresh fish and veg and an excellent wine and cheese selection. You can walk to Plouhignec’s beaches in 12 minutes or stroll into nearby Audierne in 20, and find a lively fishing port with a friendly feel and good bars and restaurants. Try the beach side Au Roi Gradlon for its good value set lunch or sea food platter. Audierne’s yachting marina is near small, unspoilt sandy beaches, where you can swim, surf or go to the nearby Aquashow or bird show. The Cap Sezun coast and nature reserve is 15 minutes drive away, and great for hiking, while Quimper is 40 minutes drive and good for a day out, with its 12th century architecture and cathedral, bookstores, quirky clothes shops and creperies, where the local cider is highly recommended. The weather was good for us but can be changeable in this area, so summer is safer, but there is enough to do if you have cloudy days. We’d suggest taking a car, we went via Brittany Ferries, which was cheaper and more fun than flying for our party of five. We preferred this holiday to ones we’ve had in busier French resorts because the people were friendlier, the beaches quieter and the food seemed more genuine French fare. We would definitely go back.
