If you are looking for comfortable, self-catered, family accomodation set in prize-winning gardens, then the Longhouse in Plougasnou is the perfect place for you. This beautiful south-facing "longère" is full of rustic charm and simplicity. Only 1.5km from a sandy beach. We have a Sunday changeover in the Longhouse so you can avoid the Saturday rush on the roads!

A "maison noble" dating from 1543, the Longhouse is built of pink granite and used to be the boulangerie which served the local villagers. It is one of three gîtes which are situated 10 minutes walk from the village of Plougasnou where you will find a large supermarket, boulangerie, medical centre, tourist office, play-park, skate-park…in fact everything you could possible need.

There is also an excellent restaurant at the end of our road which is only five minutes walk and has a good kid's menu.

The clean sandy beach is only 1.5km away.

The Longhouse has it's own private garden and sunny patio and also free access to the huge shared garden where you will find a children's play-area and animals to feed...rabbits, pigeons, chickens and little black sheep.

The ground floor consists of one large room containing the luminous kitchen/dining area at one end and the cosy lounge at the other end with the wooden staircase in the middle.

The comfortable lounge is dominated by the original, 500 year old, immense granite fire-place where you can still see traces of the former bread oven. You will find three sofas in the lounge – one with three places and two with two places, plus extra chairs. The whole of the ground floor is tiled and there is a beautiful red persian carpet in front of the wood-burning stove in the lounge.

The kitchen is very well-equiped with a large 5-burner gas cooker/oven, a microwave, a dish-washer, a toaster and a cafetière and there is a large dining-table with bench seating for twelve. There are french-windows leading from the kitchen/dining-area out onto a patio with garden furniture for eating meals outside.There is also a cloakroom on the ground floor with toilet, basin, washing-machine and ironing facilities.

On the first floor we have kept the original oak floor boards and added rugs for warmth underfoot. There is a bathroom with bath, basin and WC and 3 bedrooms one with a single bed, one with a double bed and one with a bunk bed. The bunk room also has children's books and toys! The bedrooms are carpeted.

In the attic are 2 further bedrooms which have attractive wood-panelled ceilings, one has a double bed and a cot while the other has 2 single beds. Both rooms are carpeted. On this floor there is a shower room with shower, sink and toilet.

For babies we can provide cots, high chairs and there are 3 stair-gates.

Bed-linen can be provided at 8 euros per person payable when you are here. I am not equiped to provide towels for all my visitors but I am very happy to provide them free of charge for people arriving by plane or train.

You are expected to clean the house yourself at the end of your stay but you can pay a small fee for us to do it for you if you wish.

“Cottage Country Stay”

We stayed at Debbie Gamble's charming gite cottage for a week in July. The cottage is part of a larger farm complex and there are actually 3 separate rental cottages on this property. Debbie lives nearby which is brilliant, not bad, as she is the ultimate helpmate in creating a wonderful week in her part of Brittany. Nothing it too much trouble for her to organize and advise about. She is energetic, great with kids and took our younger daughter to feed many of her myriad farm animals. Her pets and animals are indeed a highlight for the kids, there is easy interaction in her beautiful --award winning-- garden. Even though there are other rentals, our private garden was perfect for reading and morning coffee and we often grilled our supper there and ate outside in our garden. The kitchen is small, but well equipped for real cooking. The beds and hot water are plentiful and the washer works beautifully. It's very rustic and peaceful. The area has amazing farmer's markets to visit if you like food and like to cook. It's heaven. This northwest part of Brittany is stunning, very dramatic coastlines, many many great hikes --take an easy picnic from the farmer's markets-- lots of fishing and divine seafood. A real plus of this cottage is that you can walk into town for your morning bread/croissant run. It's very close. Also you can walk to supper in the charming square near their ancient church, and walk to the grocery store. There are also bikes to ride. It's a lovely stay in a very relaxed, wild, free part of France. A real vacation.

I would love more people to come and explore this lovely, unspoilt part of Brittany which so many tourists whizz straight past on their way to the pink granite coast (only half an hour away). As I'm sure you noticed, the clean, sandy beaches are never crowded around here.
