The Brittany region

Brittany is an area of outstanding natural beauty, the North of the region has a long attractive coastline with beautiful sandy beaches, dramatic headlands and peaceful coves. There is a string of seaside towns and villages, each with their own charms. The Corsair town of St Malo and medieval Dinan are rightly popular, another 'must see' is Mont St Michel, a walled Abbey rising dramatically out of the sea.You can reach Dinan in about 20 minutes from the house, and St Malo and the coast in about an hour.

The regional capital Rennes is about 30 minutes drive away, and is a vibrant young modern city, with a lovely historic centre.

Inland Brittany is equally attractive, with peaceful countryside where you can find traditional Breton villages,chapels and market towns. The region is easily accessible from the UK with ferry ports at St Malo , Roscoff or Cherbourg . There is an airport at Rennes also Ryanair provides very low cost flights to Dinard.

Plouasne

Bécherel is a very pretty and picturesque Breton hilltop village , with lovely views over the surrounding countryside. The village has a long history with a ruined castle keep and town walls as well as many fine old houses. There is a selection of bistros and cafés, as well as a bakery and shop.
Over the last few years, the village has encouraged the book trade, and is now home to 17 bookshops, many doubling up as cafés, as well as bookbinders, calligraphers workshops, and rare second hand book dealers.

Further leisure opportunities are provided by the château of Caradeuc, known as the Breton Versailles, as well as Brocéliande forest, of Arthurian legend. Further afield lie the towns of Rennes, Dinan and Combourg - all about half an hours drive away and all well worth a visit.
