Location description from owner

The Ross and Cromarty region

The north west highland region, being a popular holiday destination with its spectacular mountains, moors, lochs and rivers, offers to the tourist a good reason to visit the region to view the natural unspoiled beauty of the scottish west highlands and the Isle of Skye. The region enjoys a mild climate due to the gulf stream which allows palm trees and other exotic species to flourish in gardens and in the wild along the west coast.

Plockton

Plockton area and the Isle of Skye consist of many crofting communities and crofting is still part of the way of life and highland cattle may be seen in the common grazing in some of the villages. There is a thriving prawn fishing industry and locally caught seafood may be purchased. There is kayaking, sailing and boat hire in Plockton bay and also a yearly regatta. Trains run daily between Kyle of Lochalsh and Inverness on the famous Kyle Line and provide an excellent day trip. There is a bowling green in Plockton and golfing available in both the Isle of Skye and Loch Carron. Places to visit include Isle of Skye, Applecross, Kinlochewe Gardens, Eilean Donan Castle, and it is also possible to arrange a day trip to the Western Isles of Lewis and Harris. Local boat trips are available to view seals and dolphins and trips go from Elgol in Skye into Loch Coruisk in the heart of the famous Cuillin mountains.
