Pleudihen-sur-Rance

Along the river Rance, Pleudihen-sur-Rance is a peaceful and tranquil place where "the plough and the Doris are a stone's throw" said Chateaubriand. The Doris is the traditional boat of the Rance which was used for cod-fishing in Newfoundland.

The Rance Valley has always been known for its variety of apples and the quality of its cider. The nearby Cider Museum shows the traditional methods of cider making and you can taste (dégust) their ciders, whilst the modern and large cider production, Val de Rance, has sales from their cellar door.

“Beautiful cottage in a lovely location”

Reviewed 31 Aug 2015

Le Chanvril is a lovely cottage, beautifully renovated and has everything we needed. It is conveniently situated near Pleudihen, which has a great boulangerie and an Express Carrefour which sold everything we required.Kate was extremely friendly and very helpful in providing information on where to visit We walked to Mordreuc and saw Josephine the seal, who was very interested when we were crabbing! We visited Dinan, beautiful town, and would also recommend Fort La Latte, Cap Frehel and we found a lovely beach La Fosse when we left Cap Frehel. We also went into St Malo, our daughter (16) loved the shops!!! But my husband and son went to Petit Be(fort), much better than shopping!!!! Unfortunately the day we choose to go to Mont St Michel was cloudy and then the rain/mist came at lunch time and we left!!! We enjoyed walking along the cobbled streets, my husband decided we could do a museum tour but this was in French, so unfortunately was lost on us!! I really enjoyed visiting Saint Suliac, which is not far from the cottage and this is very picturesque and very quaint. We had a lovely time, Le Chanvril was brilliant and Kate a fabulous host, and we would highly recommend staying here. Our children also (16 and 13) thought the cottage was amazing and enjoyed relaxing in the garden.

“Stylish & Comfortable Gite in a great location”

Reviewed 6 Aug 2015

We stayed at Le Chanvril at La Touche for a week with our children (8 & 6) and loved it. The Gite is stylishly done and very comfortable. Kate is very friendly and helpful, with lots of useful advice and tips about the locality and what's going on. Poto the goat was a source of fun with the kids, as well as Josephine the seal who regularly visits the local quayside just down the road at the river Rance (there is also a very nice restaurant there too). The Gite is within easy striking distance of St Malo, Dinan, Dinard, Mont St Michel etc so there is plenty to do without going too far. Thoroughly recommended!

“What a lucky find!”

Reviewed 30 Jul 2015

This is a beautiful gite, well equipped to a good standard and very comfortable. It’s in an idyllic location, just a short walk to the attractive village or to the river and well placed to visit Dinan, St Malo & Mont St Michel. The whole experience enhanced by Kate being so friendly & helpful.

“Lovely cottage, fantastic hosts, international atmosphere”

Reviewed 29 Jul 2015

My husband Mikel and I (German coule) spend a relaxing 2-week holiday at Gite de la Touche, which is a romantic hideaway within easy reach of cities like Dinan, St. Malo, Rennes as well as the coast. Kate and Mark are easy-going and lovely people who do their best to make their guests comfortable. The cottage (Chanvril) is tastefully furnished and well-equipped (if wanted, even a cat is around to be cuddled) with a lovely terrace and garden. We can only recommend the place and will definitely come back one day! Thanks Kate, Mark and Antoine!

“Lovely comfortable gite in superb location”

Reviewed 13 Oct 2014

This is a fantastic gite, modern, well-equipped, spotlessly clean and with comfy beds and sofa. We loved it's location and particularly enjoyed being able to walk into the village for bread and down to the beautiful riverside in the evening - spotting Josephine the seal was a bonus which our 11 year old loved. There are many beaches and picnic spots within a short drive as well as historic Dinan and St Malo which both offer great shops and many cafes - very teenager friendly! Mont St Michel is within easy reach too. Highly recommend this gite, it was perfect for our family, providing something for everyone.

“A hideaway in rural Brittany, France”

Reviewed 30 Jul 2014

We stayed at Les Gites de La Touche-Chanvril for 8 nights in June and it was truly a home away from home with all the facilities we needed after travelling in France for three weeks. It was great to unpack and do all our laundry. The facilities are new and very good. We had thought that we would just laze around and do nothing for the week, but in fact, as we had a car we took the opportunity to visit Mont St Michel which is only a short distance away, Saint Malo, Dinan, all very near. We loved being able to walk 10 minutes down the road to the village of Pleudian for supplies; 10 minutes in the other direction is another lovely settlement with a beach and restaurant. The property is in a rural setting and is very quiet and peaceful. Kate was very helpful and provided advice and maps for our travels beyond the gate. Kate lives on site and speaks English as her first language, so she was most helpful to us non-French speakers.

“Fabulous! Clean, cosy, comfy, a peaceful haven that is well equipped in handy location & extremely helpful hosts”

Reviewed 20 May 2014

We highly recommend La Touche! Kate was welcoming and most helpful. The gite was spick & span, with lovely french rural furnishing, a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds & luxurious linen. We felt warm, safe & secure. It is a tranquil and relaxing spot, the garden was bursting with spring growth eg. a spectacular pink blossom Judas tree. Good base as handy to Dinan, Dinard (airport), San Malo (ferry), Mont San Micheal etc. We also enjoyed exploring the local countryside via walks and cycles. Enjoyed meeting the pet goats and was thrilled to hear the cuckoos & owls at night!

“Homely with lovely surrounds.”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2014

Lovely places to visit within a short drive (under an hour), sandy beach just down the road, handy boulangerie and supermarche in village, well-equipped kitchen, super comfy beds, and great owners just next door. Thanks, Kate!

“Great place to stay for an idyllic slice of Brittany”

Reviewed 7 Sep 2013

We (a family of four with two girls aged six and eight) stayed here for a week in the glorious Summer of 2013. We enjoyed every minute, everything was faultless. From the outside, this place is like that ideal image of a French rural cottage you have inside your head. The photos really don't do justice to its charm, from the resident goats to the cidre press! From the inside though, this an ultra-modern holiday house, although it does retain features that hint as its former life as a barn. It has been finished to a high standard and has every mod-con you would need (including a very well-equipped kitchen). As mentioned in the other reviews, there are many places of interest in local and wider area. St. Malo, Dinan, Dinard and Mont St. Michel are all within easy driving distance, and even closer (a 10 minute walk) is the neighbouring village that has a small beach with a permanently resident seal! As a rule, we do our best to venture into areas that we have never visited before when planning a holiday. But rules are made to be broken! We definitely hope to revisit Brittany in the future, and to stay again at Les Gites de la Touche.
