The Western Cape region
The Garden Route is essentially a wilderness area and hugs the south-eastern coastline of the Western Cape - it is so named for its' stunning beauty and diversity. Endless white beaches stretch between the beautiful towns of Mossel Bay to Plettenberg Bay and the excellent national road (N2 Highway) winds along the Indian Ocean, lagoons, mountains and the Garden Route's famous indigenous forests. The variety of attractions for visitors is endless and caters for nature lovers, action sports enthusiasts and those who just wish to enjoy its tranquility.
Swim in the warm Indian Ocean or many lagoons and explore the forests - look out for the Big Trees, some 600 years old, and you may even spot a wild elephant! Browse in quaint little shops & ethnic markets along the way or stop for a meal at a large variety of restaurants, many situated right on the water's edge. Accommodation in the region caters for all tastes & pockets, from backpackers to self-catering to 5-star hotels - you won't want to stay a day or two, there is too much to see and do, so take a break and relax a while and take in the true magnificance of this part of Southern Africa.
Plettenberg Bay is known as the 'Jewel of the Garden Route' for its' unparalled beauty and Med-style sophistication.
