The Weather in Lanzarote - If you are looking for year-round sunshine and warmth, you have just found it! Daytime temperatures in Lanzarote rarely fall below 18 degrees Celsius, yet the island air is constantly refreshed by cooling breezes that blow off the Atlantic Ocean - so it rarely humid. As part of the Canary Islands, Lanzarote enjoys average maximum temperatures in winter of 21 °C (70 °F) coupled with about six hours of sunshine. However, by May the daily average maximum temperature rises to 24 °C (75 °F) (Autumn months are similar), and it reaches 29 °C (85 °F) in the summer season.

Typically, there are 21 dry days each month during the winter season, rising to 26-29 days in the Spring, and 30 days in the summer months. Hours of sunshine: averages are 6-7 hours of sunshine each day in the winter months, increasing to 9 hours in Spring and Autumn, and 11 hours in the summer months. (Average temperatures, hours of sunshine , and dry days are courtesy of the Met Office website)

Clocks go forward and back at the same time as in the UK, and there is no time difference between the UK and Lanzarote. Generally it gets light slightly later in the morning, and dark slightly later in the evening (compared to the UK)

Location description from owner

The Canary Islands region

Playa Blanca is situated at the most southern point of Lanzarote and is approximately 30 mins 30 km from the airport by taxi and 37 kilometres from the Capital also Arrecife. For those who prefer not to hire a car it is possible to get from the airport to the villa using public transport. Further information on request. There is now a water park in Playa blanca, 20 euros for adults and 14 for children and that's for the whole day.

For those who prefer not to hire a car or has reduced mobility there is a bus stop by Villa del Sur which networks around the seafront, town, marina rubicon, harbour and bus station and runs twice an hour. The bus station in Playa Blanca town provides a regular service to towns north of the island including Arrecife Coach station . A well stocked hiperdino supermarket and snack bar is close to the villa supermarket,.

Playa Blanca happens to be the most recently developed resort on the island. Consequently it has become an attractive holiday destination which has learnt from the mistakes made by other resorts and is more tranquil and less noisy . There has been a good investment in infrastructure in Playa Blanca as well as holiday villas and hotels.

The newly built promenade is the heart of the place for visitors with its myriad of cafes, restaurants, shops and bars. At midday when everyone has returned from the beach, the promenade walk is full of people, where all sorts of languages can be heard in Babylonian fashion.

The new pedestrian walkway is right through the centre of the village where you will find many shops, restaurants, banks, bars and supermarkets where one can wander about and look for gifts to take home. There are cafes and restaurants to suit every taste. Despite all this Playa Blanca retains the atmosphere of a small and charming village.

The nicest beach is the Playa Dorada, or Golden Beach, which is clean and being partly manmade is well protected and safe. The people who visit it usually spend the whole day there, and is recommended for families and children as it is busy but broad, there is diving, paracraft, banana sky bus, jet sky.

Beyond the harbour you will find another beach called Playa Flamingo, with a lively atmosphere all around.

What Time Does It Go Dark

It's a question we're often asked. We're much closer to the equator than northern European countries, so the difference between winter months and summer months is much less marked – that means our winter days are much longer, but our summer days are shorter.

We've selected sunrise and sunset times for key months through the year to give you a feel for what to expect:

Mid March

In mid March, the sun rises at 0704 and sets at 1903, making the day a fraction under 12 hours long.

Mid June

In the middle of June the sun rises at 0655 and sets at 2054 making the day almost 14 hours long.

Mid September

In September the sun rises at 0739 and sets at 1959 making the day 12 hours and 20 minutes long.

Mid December

In the middle of winter the sun rises at 0740 and sets at 1759 making the day 10 hours and 18 minutes long.

As you can see, the difference between the middle of summer (14 hours) and the middle of winter (10 hours and 18 minutes) is only 3 hours and 42 minutes. This compares to London where the difference between summer's longest day (16 hours and 49 minutes) and winter's shortest day (7 hours and 38 minutes) is over nine hours!

Playa Blanca

In the evening the Marina Rubicon is idea for groups of friends couples and families who are looking for restaurants, bars, studios and boutiques or just stop for a coffee glass of wine or dessert within view of the sea or just roam around the trendy shops and galleries which stay open til 10 pm. For nightlife head for the Jungle Bar which has evening entertainment and singers.

A childrens playground and cafe bar is less than a 10 minute walk together with a new modern shopping centre called El Pueblo with fashion, gift shops and quality restaurants and bars. A supermarket, 'Ropers' that sells virtually everything from an amazing variety of fresh and frozen fish/meat/veg/salad to local delicacies is also situated in El Pueblo. The sports bar has everything from Sky sports to good quality well priced snacks available every day. The local beach is ideal for fishing and rock pooling for the kids.

The new Marina Rubicon makes Playa Blanca a more upmarket resort and is only a 15-20 minute walk or 5 minute drive from Villa Citrus. Also from our villa in a different direction is a new Shopping Centre and a luxurious 5 star hotel Dream Castillo which offers spa treatments if you fancy pampering yourself.

The Marina is enticing at night with many upmarket trendy designer boutiques, shops, galleries - perfect for roaming around after a satisfying meal in one of the many restaurants or just to sit and enjoy a coffee/dessert or a glass of wine and watch the yachts and people go by.

A recently opened restaurant called El Mirador has sea views and sun loungers, so iy is possible to have a cocktail whilst watching the sunset in total comfort whilst listening to music.

If you prefer the villa has a good supply of varied dvds and there is an English Speaking Disney Channel on the tv.

We can personally recommend Ropers Supermarket (13 minute walk from the villa in the El Pueblo Shopping Centre) for excellent quality and a varied selection of meat, chicken, ribs, fish, fresh salad, beer and wine for a perfect bbq but don't forget to buy the bricks and long matches. The villa is equipped with bbq and bbq cooking implements. But please remember to clean the bbq afterwards or our managers can do it for you for 50 euros.

“could not of been any way, from initial enquiry to our return..amazing”

Reviewed 13 Sep 2015

From beginning to end the service was amazing.. Maureen could not of been more helpful, in every way. From the first email enquiry she was professional, thoughful and kind, Maureen was only to pleased to help and advise throughout. She answered every enquiry straight away whatever day or time it was, amazing service. Just what is needed when booking/taking a holiday for peace of mind, especially considering the age ranges we had, we were a group of mixed ages 6,15,15,25,45 and 72 . The service throughout our stay was also A1, Maureen's team were all amazing especially Mike, the pool man, he was friendly and extremely helpful regarding local information and tips. The property was just as described, very comfortable and very clean, with every kitchen accessory you could imagine even a cool bag with ready to go ice packs! Beds lovely and were changed half way through our stay, cooling towers available if needed, well laid out and built Villa. Swimming pool was fabulous, and Mike kept it clean throughout our stay, keeping it in tip top condition and the patio areas were welcomed to relax in after a swim. The local area had everything you could need, shops, beaches and park within a few minutes walk, beautiful scenery and so clean everywhere. Recycling at the local shop (wasn't publicised but good to recycle for the island). Lanzarote was stunning, so many great places to visit, Papygayo beach (over the hills from the Villa) was beautiful and we all managed the walk there even in the heat, and well worth it. It felt very safe there and the teenagers were able to stroll into Playa Blanca, the locals were all happy and helpful. Fantastic holiday, can't wait to go back again, so refreshing to have NO complaints about a holiday.. Thank you Maureen. Just one thing, there is no internet at the Villa, but it really was a welcome relief, even the teenagers who can't normally live without their devices were fine, as there are pplaces to get wifi and didn't seem to miss it at all. Before we left we found a deal with '3 (three) 'network of £15 for 30 days of internet, text and calls, (you'd be hard pushed to use all the package in 30 days!) I hadn't realised until a few days before the property didn't have internet but the network was easy to connect to and served us well in the Villa/Lanzarote.

“Well equipped wonderful villa”

Reviewed 9 Feb 2015

Villa was spotlessly clean on arrival and well equipped with everything we needed. Would recommend car hire as it's so reasonable on the island. Good supermarket is less than 5 minute walk, but would also recommend Ropers for meat and fish for the BBQ which is about 2 min drive. Papgayo beach is beautiful, about a 5 minute drive from the villa. The walk along the coastal path to Marina Rubicon takes about 20 minutes, where there is a good selection of restaurants and bars with a relaxed atmosphere. The only improvement to the Villa I could suggest would be to provide some cover on the terrace or a good quality large parasol so there is shade available in the heat of the day, especially if dining outside for lunch.

“A Peaceful Haven”

Reviewed 15 Sep 2013

We have just spent 12 days at Villa Citrus and I am now so relaxed I am almost going backwards ! The villa is in a quiet but accessible location. The bus stop is a minute away. (Just to the left of the mini roundabout) and costs 1.35 euro to Playa Blanca or to Marina Rubicon. The Marina is a 20 min walk - just down to the seafront and along to the right - with lovely sea views all the way. A taxi back is approx 3 euro and 3.50 from playa blanca. Very nice restaurants at the Marina but pricier than in town. We did eat in a couple of nights - supermarket just through the mini roundabout on the right or if looking for excellent fresh meats/steaks go to the Roper Supermarket. The villa itself is very clean and tidy and what you see in the pictures is what you get. There is no air con but by using the fans and sleeping with the bedroom windows open (shutters keep the insects out) we found it cool for sleeping. The bed in the master bedroom is very comfortable although we did find it a little small but then my man is over 6ft and very broad !! We also opted to have the pool heated and I am glad we did, it kept the water at a very comfortable temperature and with the heat reaching 35 degrees some days, it was well used. It is 1.8m deep but even if not a competent swimmer the side is never far away. As taxi fares from the airport are around 45 euro single trip - for two of us it was cheaper to book the Ryanair (or Last minibus which is 18 euro each RETURN - delivered to your door and picked up from there on way home. We did hire a car for a few days(car hire next to the supermarket) and travelled all over the island. I would say 3 days is enough for any sightseeing you may wish to do. Any questions or directions just ask Linda who is great for information and is there for any problems you may have. Lastly, when you arrive at the villa the 'key safe' is inside the shutter doors.

Very nice, neat and tidy home, perfect for walking to the Coastal Path which leads you to the Rubicon Marina. Very quite in residental area, no noise whatsoever. We had a little problem, but that was sorted out with little inconvenience to us by Mike, who keeps an eye on the villa and lives a few doors away, so no problem. We took advantage of the heating for the pool this year, which was well worth it. Great option for some Winter Sun. Little word to the Ladies, you do need a little Jacket for the evenings, I found it a little cold this year once the sun had gone down.

“Beautiful villa in a good location.”

Reviewed 13 Aug 2012

The villa is beautiful, it was very clean and in a lovely quiet location yet close to everything you need such as shops, bars, restaurants. Marina Rubicon was a 20 minute stroll down the coastal path and we enjoyed going there most nights to eat out and shop. Playa Blanca was a 5-10 minute bus journey (the bus stop is a minutes walk from the villa) which ran every 30 minutes and was very cheap. The pool was a lovely size, not too big yet not too small, nice to cool down from the heat and just relax. The table and chairs outside were also lovely and we made the most of using these to eat outside. Mike and Linda who live just a few doors down, were very friendly, welcoming and helpful whilst we stayed and we would recommend this villa to anyone. The only thing this villa would benefit from is air con or more room fans, other than this the villa is absolutely spot on and a credit to Maureen and Richard. Maureen and Richard, the owners of the villa, were very friendly, helpful and organised. They responded to any emails we sent very quickly and were more than happy to help with any questions we had. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and we would love to go back.

“Fantastic villa - highly recommended!”

Fantastic villa in a great location. Seemless booking process with Maureen, who was friendly and helpful. Spotlessly clean, very well appointed accomodation. Very spacious and comfortably furnished, with everything you could want. Lovely (heated) pool and terrace area. Easy to walk to local marina area, where there are numorous restaurants and up-market (but reasonably priced) bars. Playa Blanca itself can be reached via a 30 minute walk if you fancy a change of scenery. Taxis from both the marina and Playa Blanca are about £3 each way and cheaper than the bus if there are more than two of you. Well stocked supermarket about five minutes walk away. Had a great holiday here - very highly recommended.

Our holiday in this villa was superb. There were 4 adults in our group. The villa was extremly clean, roomy, comfortable and very modern. Absolutely everything was provided right down to a nice welcome pack. The owners were a pleasure to deal with and their on site contact was an extremly friendly and helpful man. We hired a car as we usually do but it is not essential as there is a regular bus stop 100metres away and a well stocked supermarket approx 300metres nearby. It was bliss to sit by the pool sipping a nice cool drink and having the occasional dip. Nice quiet villa. Plenty of dvd's and books also. Plenty of variety in Playa Blanca so it is a holiday area suitable for any type of person, family or group. Thanks for a lovely holiday and I would have no hesitation reccomending this villa. :)

Really enjoyed staying at Villa Citrus. There was plenty of room for us to relax, indoors and outdoors. Great location – very quiet and peaceful. Enjoyed the pool – glad we had it heated – water temperature was around 30oC. Some of the best restaurants we’ve ever found at a Spanish resort in the marina about 20 minutes away along a beautiful coastal path. Would especially recommend Casa Brigida and Aphrodite Little Italy. We also enjoyed a trip to the National Park – spectacular scenery. Would definitely like to stay at Villa Citrus again
