The Canary Islands region
Playa Blanca is the most southerly resort on Lanzarote and has many advantages for those who are looking for sun, sea and sand as well as good fish restaurants that generally host the catch of the day. From Playa Blanca's seafront you can see across to Fuerteventura, which is a mere 11km by ferry. Ferries cross to the island several times a day from the main harbour.
The front is populated with a variety of beaches, notably Playa Dorada, Papgayo (reckoned to be one of the best on the island) and Playa Flamingo. Playa Blanca has a relaxed atmosphere compared to the more upbeat nightlife in Puerto del Carmen, restaurants on the front feature a wonderful sea view - perfect for couples and families.
PLAYA BLANCA (White Beach...) As it's name suggest, Playa Blanca is blessed with a large bay of fine well-kept sand, stretching the length of the town.
The almost permanently warm temperature climate in this southern area of the island may have something to do with the growth in tourism in recent years. Another factor is its sufficient port with excursions (30 min boat trip) to the Isle of Fuenteventura and two maritime companies have scheduled regular crossings in modern ferries in which vehicles may be carried at a perfectly reasonable rate. Bicycles can be hired by the half day or daily from various outlets throughout Playa Blanca or from the local hotels, at very reasonable rates.
Playa Blanca also boasts a fabulous new marina, Marina Rubicon - fine restaurants and exquisite shopping. Here in Playa Blanca it is easy to see how traditional fishing crafts can peacefully rub shoulders with the somewhat luxury yachts. The town has every amenity you could wish for and is beautiful with scattered white houses built up around the ports, marina and coastline. The nearby beaches are of breath-taking beauty - probably the most natural and peaceful on Lanzarote.
Little coves nestling between the rocks calm the ferocity of the waves, the air is tranquil and is enhanced by the absence of any hotels, with the exception of a cosy typical restaurant separating the beaches of Papagayo and Le Sera, which along with the famous Playa De Mujeres (Women's Beach) are the 3 best known beaches. Fantastic diving/snorkelling for all ages and for those that don't glass bottomed boat rides can be taken. Many guests have written to say how much they had enjoyed their days at Papagayo

"Avoid at all costs, a total nightmare!!!"
Misleading info led us to believe as marked on maps by the owner the property was close to playa blanca right near playa flamingo beach when infact it isn't near to anything apart from the few bars and shops at the end of the road some 1hr30+ walk to playa blanca. The welcome pack consists of a few bits of ham cheese awful bread one toilet role per toilet and towels for two people which became a problem as there were three of us and a little note parked next to a bottle of red wine we couldn't open because the cork screw was broken. along with the mop which was so rusty it just fell apart , the pool net had fallen apart and the dvd player which we repeatedly asked for a replacement for which we got told it must be the scart lead (not the case) and bad attitude from maintenance for asking, this unfortunately became a running theme for the duration of our stay you ask maintanence to fix a problem they email the owner the owner says no and makes up poor excuse they even sent someone round with a set of batteries to fix the dvd player yet no one to actually look at it and a complete refusal to replace it or even attempt a repair, we rapidly came to understand that repair and fix don't mean a lot to this villas owner. The gate had to be wedged with card as the catch was broken and the gate slammed around in the wind the room fans were so filthy they had to be taken away to be cleaned the owner had told maintenance that they were functional so they were fine. Luxury was none existent one poor double bed and two very small child's single beds so hard we had to ask for extra bedding to soften them up. Another bed was provided as we were led to believe there was bed settee(s) that weren't there this was also a child's fold up old bed the couch was unusable it was so hard and small. We spent most of our days trying to get filth and faults sorted out via maintenance who's hands were tied when asked to do anything by owner having to allow them to fix problems. Even the heated pool isn't without its problems as the heater is extremely loud with endless drone from 8 o clock the first morning after a late check in, we had to arrange for this to be stopped as relaxing or talking to each other by the pool was impossible due to the sound level so we had no heated pool. No English sky channels alongside the dvd player that didn't work left us pretty much nothing to do for evening/poor weather entertainment. We were promised free full access to the Natura Palace hotel as the villa has an arrangement for anyone staying there full use of the hotels facilities, this was not true and no such agreement exists we were also told that checkout day we would be able to leave our cases in the h10 hotel around the corner so as we had a late flight we rolled up with our cases to find that yet again this was untrue and left us in an a bad situation leaving us feeling completely let down by all aspects of this villa and its owner. This advert should be altered truthfully as location and comfort are not as advertised and the property is in need of maintenance to all aspects and new beds couch appliances would be a start. poorly maintained and managed by owner.
I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your stay. The welcome pack is complimentary and is just a few useful items provided by myself, bread, milk, juice, water, coffee, tea, ham, cheese, bottle of wine - I'm sorry these weren't sufficient, most owners do not provide welcome packs but I try and offer a few essentials until guests can get to a shop. My maintenance called to the villa on various occasions regarding the DVD player, it was established that it would not play your particular DVD's that you had brought from the UK. We tested all the DVD's at the villa and they worked fine. I have checked with more recent guests who are all able to use the DVD player. I accommodated your last minute change of guests from two to three and provided an extra bed as requested. I never mentioned nor advertise that I have a sofa bed. I was aware that it was 3 guests - but was not aware two guests would not share a room and you wanted a bed in the living room or else I would of suggested you having a 3 bed property.

"Spic and span and got a great tan :-)"
I often prefer choosing villa's than the usual hotel option and do appreciate I can be picky at times but nothing can fault my two week stay at Roja. I was with my wife and daughter for 2 weeks. From the start I would say the booking process was particularly quick and easy. The simple fact that I have never been to this area of the world had potential problems as I was unsure what to expect but I found the owner very helpful and the information she gave me assured that I wouldn't have any issues and her advice on such things as renting a car etc was spot on. As I arrived the trip to the villa from the airport was quick and a clear indication of how much thought goes in to people's stay here was to see a welcome pack of essentials which was perfect as we arrived just in time for lunch. My 3 year old daugther which can be a real madame due to villa's occasionally not providing much for her was not dissapointed as the owner had also catered for her with toys and an outdoor play house available if we wanted it...WE DID! Shops are literally 1 min walk from the villa which allowed us to really make the holiday our own. In addition to the shops there are afew restaurants one called the 'port of call' which I would recommend due to its friendly atmosphere yet quiet and professional service. The whole holiday was 5 stars in my opinion, clean and tidy and to top it all off with a tan couldn't of asked for any more.

Having been disappointed on several occasions where the accommodation has not lived up to the photos displayed on-line, you have nothing to worry about regarding renting Villa Roja - it was "picture perfect"!! So nice to find that someone hasn't "doctored" their advert in order to draw unsuspecting holidaymakers into a "hell hole" for their well-earned break!! Having obtained a very comprehensive information pack from the owner, Lisa Roberts, the villa was very easy to locate on departure from the Airport - the only drawback being that to be able to "get-around", you need to hire a car. Although there did appear to be local buses operating through the estate. Fortunately, my son had hired a car, so we had no difficulties getting out and exploring the island. Upon arrival at the villa, we found a Welcome Note with a bottle of wine, as well as the fridge being stocked with the necessary essentials one needs; bread, butter, cheese, ham, milk, etc.- how thoughtful!! After a much-needed cup of coffee, we had a good look round the villa As I said, it was a true reflection of the pictures in the advert, better in fact. It was spotlessly clean; fresh towels and bedding (blankets, if required); comfortable beds and lounge furniture; loads of crockery, cutlery and kitchen equipment and all the appliances were in working order (hooray). The highlight of the villa however, as far as our grandson was concerned, is the pool. Kept warm day and night by its "blanket", he would have happily spent the whole of the holiday in there. Nothing more refreshing after a morning spent exploring the island, than to come back and have a swim - bliss!! With regard to facilities, there are shops located right across the road from the villa complex. Prices at the supermarkets are not exorbitant so you don't have to venture into Playa Blanca for "stocking-up". Do go to the Lighthouse restaurant, which is run by a lovely English couple, for a meal - welcoming atmosphere, good food (great portions) and great beer - much to my husband's delight. Also Sky Sports, so we watched the England match whilst we there. Once round and about, do go to Puerto Calero, loads of restaurants, overlooking a yachting harbour. Here you can enjoy a tour on a glass-bottomed yellow submarine or go out on a catamaran for a cruise - anchors away!! All in all, we had a terrific week at Villa Roja - only one thing wrong - it should have been at least two weeks, will be next time!!
