The Limassol District
Limassol or Lemesos (Greek: Lemesós; is the second-largest city in Cyprus. Limassol municipality has a population of 101,000 while the metropolitan area has a population of 183,656. It is the largest city in geographical size, and Limassol municipality is the largest and most populous of the island. The city is located on Akrotiri Bay, on the island's southern coast and it is the capital of Limassol District, which has a population of 235,000.
Limassol is one of the busiest ports of Mediterranean transit trade and the largest port in Cyprus. It has also become one of the most important tourism, trade and service-providing centres in the area. Limassol is renowned for its long cultural tradition, and is home to the Cyprus University of Technology. A wide spectrum of activities and a number of museums and archaeological sites are available to the interested visitor. Consequently, Limassol attracts a wide range of tourists mostly during an extended summer season to be accommodated in a wide range of hotels and apartments. A large marina is currently being constructed near the old town.
Limassol was built between two ancient cities, Amathus and Kourion and during Byzantine rule it was known as Neapolis (new town). Limassol's historical centre is located around its medieval castle and the Old Port. Today the city spreads along the Mediterranean coast and has extended much farther than the Castle and Port, with its suburbs stretching along the coast to Amathus. To the west of the city is the Akrotiri Sovereign Base Area, part of the British Overseas Territory of Akrotiri and Dhekelia.
The graphic Pissouri is perched on the hillside overlooking the sea, in south –west Cyprus, 30 km from Lemessos, 30 km from Paphos and 25 km from Paphos international airport. In 10 minutes' drive you may reach the two golf courses (Aphrodite Hills and Secret Valley) and last but most important Pissouri is only 25 km away from the new Limassol Marina. Where this Marina, is creating new prospects for Limassol area and Cyprus as a whole. The developments of the property, the hotel resorts, the easy access to the motorways, the unique location and the spectacular view, has rapidly make Pissouri the Cote d'Azure of Cyprus.
The traditional square is the hub of Pissouri life with local tavernas serve up good food and on in summer evenings you may enjoy your lunch or dinner under the blue sky in the day and under the stars and moon during the night. Pissouri boasts a magnificent "Millenium" amphitheatre, seating 800, spectacularly set high up on the edge , with panoramic views towards to the bay.
Pissouri offers all those facilities for the everyday needs, banks, post office, shops, travel agency, restaurants, traditional tavernas, big supermarkets, etc .
To the south lies the beautiful Bay, where hotels, bars, restaurants and tavernas contribute to a lively and friendly tourist location. Pissouri beach extends from Cape Aspro in the west and ends in the area named "Mavrorotsos" at the eastern end of the beach. Protected by Cape Aspro, with its high vertical cliffs, it creates an admirable combination of mountain and sea that make it unique. The coast stretches west along dramatic cliffs to Aphrodite's Rock. During recent years, great attention has been paid to the development of tourism in the area.
Pissouri Bay is awarded with the Blue Flag ( for cleanliness of the seaside and the Mediterranean water)
