The garden area has a large terrace perfect for outdoor dining and BBQing. The garden boasts its own rock pool formed from the rivulet flowing down the side of the property and on to the main rivulet, this rock pool is shallow and great for children, under supervision always. The swimming pool is fed from the river, it is the original stone tank that was used to collect the overflow of the olive oil from the freshly pressed olives, and this olive oil was payment for the mill owner for pressing the villagers olives, he would then skim this oil off the top of the water and sell it. There is also private bathing in the rivulet and a rock pool in the garden for paddling and keeping cool.

This is a wonderful holiday opportunity to get back to basics and have a real family holiday, long walks in the country, horse riding, biking and just relaxing, no internet and a tv just for DVDs if you wish to bring films or CDs, you will find a selection at the mill.

Alternatively you could spend the the day at the beach and then relax in the evening back in the mill and back in time.
Ideal for a wedding in Italy, romantic and isolated enough to have the best wedding reception ever. This could be catered for as well if required.
If you would like a private chef for your stay or for a few meals this can be arranged also if you require daily maid service this can be arranged as well.

We are just one hour from Monaco so why not stay at the mill and visit the Monaco Grand Prix for an exciting once in a lifetime experience.

The lane the mill is on follows the river a few kilometres and it is a lovely walk with plenty of opportunities for bathing along the way, it is a paradise for children who can explore to their hearts content. There is horse riding close by too. There is a large garden and a private path down to the river, where the crystal clear cold water flows from the mountains down to the sea and is so refreshing, completely stress free all you need for a perfect family holiday or a romantic holiday or even a few friends getting together.
The villages around have dances all summer long and provide entertainment of a vast range for all the family and of course we are so close to the sea, even though I can assure you after a hot day at the beach the mill will seem like paradise found on your return.
Stock up the car from one of the supermarkets in Ventimiglia or Camporosso on your way down, look out for BILLA, LIDL, CONAD or Maxisconto - when you turn left after Ventimiglia up the valley on the left hand side over the river you will see a small industrial estate at the first roundabout go right over the bridge and right after the second roundabout to maxi Sconto (more choice than LIDL that you will see first) and just enjoy.

You will find a mobile phone in the mill with an Italian sim card for your use, incase you need to contact us or book local restaurants, this is just for local calls.
Small food shops are usually closed Wednesday afternoons but the bigger supermarkets are all open even on Sundays. Bread is bought from shops called PANETTERIA and most small grocery shops have bread.

The property has been renovated and redecorated.

“amazing mountain hideaway with its own stream & stunning waterfall view”

Reviewed 12 Aug 2011

The Mill is set in lovely scenery with green forest in every direction. The location between stream waterfall and forrest is unbeatable. On a clear night, the moon rises over the mountain silhouetting the pine trees along the ridge which is just breathtaking. The mill isn't completely secluded as a small lane providing access is also used by other locals... and there is some small wildlife to be aware of as you would expect in the forrest. Only negative was the lack of a bath which may be a problem for some, otherwise perfect. The owners where also very kind and easy to make arrangements with.

Thank you for your excellent review, we have tried to make the Mill as comfortable as possible, unfortunately we will not be able to put a bath in as the bathroom is too small, but we do out best to attend to all improvements that we can make at the Mill and we hope to welcome you back in the future.

“Paradise_the real Italy still exists”

First of all I want to congratulate Sandro for his amazing work with the mill. We also felt very wellcome and could find all we need it at the mill. The place looks exactly as in the photos below, so no photoshop at all like in some cases. We were 2 children and 3 adults and we were grilling every single day after shoping in the villages nearby. The fact of being a bit isolated pleased me a lot as you can really find time for all kind of grilling. Monaco and Menton is about 30 minutes and we were there every single day just to bath....amazing views. I strongly recommend this place if you want to get away from stress and to enjoy some quality time with your familly. Will be back again one day

Thank you so much for your wonderful review and we are so very happy that your stay in the Mill was memorable as this means a lot to us we love it so much. We hope to welcome you back in the future.

“Interesting base in beautiful locality”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2011

My husband and I were the first guests to stay in this unusual and eye-catching property arriving slightly before the renovation was totally completed. It is best suited to families with two older children or young teenagers, however, as steep stone steps and surrounding railings make it unsuitable for toddlers and/or anyone with walking disabilities. It's worth mentioning that Sandro bought and installed a washing machine just before we left which would be a welcome facility for ensuing guests. Located up in the mountains between the villages of Pigna and Castel Vittorio amid beautiful forests the mill has its own stretch of river. The garden, although in its early stages, provided nice splashes of colour and will be gorgeous once established. The patio area is spacious and well-equipped, including a large barbeque, and the freshwater pool is a definite advantage as a welcome dip in its cool waters is essential in the hot summer months. You are really among nature here and we saw a wonderful array of brightly coloured butterflies; beautiful, iridescent, turquoise dragonflies – enormous by our standards; and the light posse of fireflies which danced around each evening like small flashing Xmas tree lights. We ate out only once as we couldn’t be bothered to dress-up each evening and preferred to make our own meals using fresh local produce to be eaten outside at our leisure. A couple of times we had a barbecue. On a Sunday evening we decided to drive up to Castel Vittoria to have dinner in a restaurant Sandro had recommended but a there was a wedding party being held and it was closed to the public. Instead, we drove down to Isolabona and stopped at the “Agriturismo U Cian” which we’d fancied from the roadside each time we passed it. We had a fabulous meal for a fabulous price. We loved the markets in Ventimiglia and Bordighera but you need to allow at least 40-mins to drive from the mill and find a parking space. If you have time, go to San Remo, or take the train to Monaco or Monte Carlo as the traffic in MC is horrendous! There are so many places to see around this lovely area. We stayed only 8 days at the mill but it was a perfect place for a relaxing, chill-out holiday -away from emails and internet as there is no broadband. Take along some DVDs and CDs as there were only about 3 of each when we were there. Enjoy!

Thank you very much for your review
