“A little piece of paradise”

Reviewed 31 Jul 2016

Once you have braved the meandering bends of the last piece of the route and navigated the white gravel roads leading up to La Fiorella - Johanne's directions are excellent -, a true little jewel reveals itself to you. Johanne and Graham have created a wonderful retreat for themselves and their guests, be they friends, family or travellers on holiday. The house itself is charming, the grounds are neatly kept, the swimming-pool is lovely, overlooking the gently curved hills of the Umbrian countryside. There are many good things you could say about La Fiorella, we would like to mention just a few. The host. Friendly, funny, helpful. Never intrusive, but always pleased to help with Information, good tips about places to visit, markets, restaurants and ongoing festivals. We didn't manage to visit the local food-festival, so supposedly we'll have to return to check this off our list some time in the future. The kitchen. We have been booking apartments for our holiday stays for several years now, and to be honest have never been disappointed so far. But this kitchen is something of a totally different standard we have never experienced in a rented apartment before. Pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, glasses, stoneware, kitchen-towels, oven-gloves, even an apron. The places you can visit. La Fiorella is a great point from which to explore Umbria or even Tuscany. As it was our second stay to Umbria, we already knew some of the places recommended in the visitors' folder and could choose to explore some of those which we hadn't been to so far. The lovely little hilltop hamlets and towns of Umbria were never as crowded as the respective places in Tuscany, while still offering some amazing cultural treasures, breathtaking views and culinary highlighs for vegetarian and of course also and especially non-vegetrarian tastes. La Fiorella: Five shining, twinkling stars, as simple as that.

Owner's reply: Many thanks for your review - it always makes us feel good when our guests enjoy themselves. So glad you had a lovely time at La Fiorella and look forward to welcoming you both back if you decide to ever visit our part of Umbria again

“beautiful location with stunning views”

Reviewed 1 Oct 2012

Johanne and Graham have created their beautiful home set amidst breath-taking and tranquil Umbrian scenery. The apartment is tastefully appointed and very comfortable with everything you need and nothing you don't; for both indoor and outdoor living. We loved sitting at the table and 2 chairs at the top of the external steps whilst gazing out across the fields and hillside. There is a fabulous barbeque and eating area just below the house with a further few steps down to the beautiful and immaculate pool. This is an excellent base for driving out to numerous beautiful hilltop towns with the added option of getting further afield (eg Florence or Sienna) by train from Chiusi station about 30 min drive away. Joahnne and Graham are very thoughtful and helpful, being on hand if needed whilst providing total privacy for their guests.

“A wonderful base to explore Umbria or just relax by the pool!”

Reviewed 28 May 2012

Johanne and Graham are excellent hosts and La Fiorella is a beautiful villa and a great base from which to either enjoy the lovely pool and while away the day reading and admiring the spectacular views or otherwise to get out and out and explore Umbria - there are many lovely hilltop towns scattered within an hours drive, where you can enjoy learning more about Italian history, wandering streets lined with little shops selling everything from fine jewellery to fresh cheese and then stopping at a bar or trattoria for a spot of lunch or a coffee and cake. The apartment itself is well appointed with all mod cons - we made use of the dvd on several evenings to watch a film while enjoying a glass of wine. the kitchen has all the nessecary tools to create your own Italian feast and although we didn't use it, the bbq looked large and easy to use. Johanne and Graham are happy to provide suggestions for dinner and day trips (and they also provide a good guide book for you with plenty of local maps and leaflets of attractions/events etc). As hosts they are very welcoming but also unobtrosive. All in all a lovely holiday and will definately be coming again - 2013/2014 thinking of doing a driving tour of Naples/Amalfi coatsline and then up to La Fiorella for a weeks relaxing by the pool afterwards.

Owner's reply: We look forward to welcoming you back to La Fiorella - thank-you for your review, we are so glad you felt at home here and enjoyed the delights of Umbria

“AAbsolutely fantastic holiday in a very comfortable apartment with delightful hostshtful hosts”

Reviewed 6 Nov 2011

We loved the ambience of La Fiorella, and had a fantastic 2 weeks there, relaxing around the beautiful pool and secluded patio and gardenswith its breathtaking views. We discovered some delightful towns including Pienza, Gubbio Panicale , whilst memories of amazing trips to the jazz festival in Perugia and sights of Orvieto and Assisi, shall take us through the dark winter months ahead. Johanne and Graham made us so welcome, with Dylan of course, and their knowledge of the local area was a great bonus as we pootled about this fantastic part of Italy. The apartment had absolutely everything we needed, and we were so impressed with the kitchen utensil shelving from IKEA, we got one ourselves. As for the bed, so comfy.........we weren't desperate to get back home to our own, as is usually the case. Just what we needed as we prepared for our daughter's wedding later in the summer. Rest assured, we'll be back.

Owner's reply: So glad you enjoyed yourselves here, we are always pleased when guests have a "fantastic" holiday, and we appreciate your review on La Fiorella. It would be lovely to welcome you back to our part of Umbria anytime. Johanne & Graham

“Peace and relaxation in the Umbrian countryside”

Reviewed 2 Aug 2011

Enjoyed a wonderful week again this year - beautiful and relaxing after a few busy days in Rome. La Fiorella is like a home from home with all the home comforts we could need so we start relaxing as soon as we've arrived. Weather was more mixed this year but we still came away with a tan! Thank you Johanne and Graham for such wonderful hospitality.

Owner's reply: We are both glad you enjoyed your return trip to La Fiorella, and thank-you for your kind words in your review. It's always a pleasure to have guests that enjoy the Italian way of life including the local festas!

“Excellent property in the heart of Italy which offers amazing value for money”

Reviewed 17 May 2011

Having rented on line for the past 10 years we have learned that not all property descriptions are what they seem and some photographs can be taken from very flattering angles. Therefore we always arrive at our holiday home with fingers crossed that the hours of internet research have paid off. La Fiorella most certainly did. The photos on the wbesite do not do it full justice. It is an absolute gem right in the very centre of Italy. The spacious accomodation is set on the first floor directly above the permanent home of the hosts. Access is at the side of the property up a flight of stairs. These may not be suitable for very small children but our 3 year old had no difficulty. The hosts Johanne and Graham are very helpful but unobtrusive. The apartment is clean and tastefully decorated. It is very well appointed for a holiday let and had everything that a family needed. The pool and views are amazing. It is a great base for exploring the heart of Italy. We had day trips to Assisi, Siena, Orvieto, Montepulciano and Cortona all of which are around 1-1.25hrs away by car. The closest village of Piegaro is not particularly well serviced or interesting. However within 20 minutes drive there are some lovely hilltop villages and towns which had some great little restaurants and play parks for the kids. Less than 10 minutes drive away is the town of Tavernelle which has all the amenities you would require. It is also blessed with a very nice waterpark, which whilst not being as large or exciting as those found on the Costas benefited from only small queues and we did not leave feeling like we had been mugged. We went on this holiday with 3 children of 9, 6 and 3. La Fiorella and the location managed to strike the right balance of relaxing by the pool, great Italian food, trips to the beach at the lake and plaparks for the kids whilst allowing mum and dad to visit some wonderful sights and see some culture. It may not suit families with older tenagers but I can not recommend the apartment or area highly enough. We loved it so much we have been twice. Something we have never done before. If you do decide to go try and coincide your visit with the festival at Citta del Pieve. A truly amazing historical pageant which entranced the whole family. I doubt there are any better properties in this region of Italy that offer the same level of accomodation at these rental prices. An absolute gem.

“Peaceful Umbrian hills in the sun.”

Reviewed 16 May 2011

We had a very comfortable stay in the peaceful, private and well furnished apartment. The pool was welcoming and cool as were the friendly owners. The views are outstanding and the surrounding country beautiful. The sights of Umbria and Tuscany were in easy reach but a car is essential. The only drawback isnavigating the last few kilometers of hilly gravel roads but we soon got used to that.

“Magnificent Views”

Reviewed 16 May 2011

Fantastic property - completely self contained 3 bedroomed flat with everything you need for an enjoyable stay. High up on top of a hill with uninterupted views and great walks. Excellent swimming pool - clean, neat and tidy. Owners live on the ground floor and are very quiet and unassuming but extremely helpful with local advice. Near to beautiful hilltop town of Panicale and the fantastic Lake Trasimino. Highly recommended
