Originally a simple stone cottage, The View, Sicily has been renovated into a four double bedroom, three bathroom self-contained villa (with air conditioning) surrounded by grounds with large open terraces on both the ground and first floor. The interior decor is understated, comfortable yet tasteful with plenty of wood and natural colours. There is an emphasis on local handmade and traditional products such as ceramic tiles, local chestnut wood beams and ceramics from the nearby town of Caltagirone. The sitting room is made snug by an open fire in winter.

The property is on two levels. A ground floor entrance leads into a large open plan kitchen, dining and living room area. Two double bedrooms are on the ground floor, one has an ensuite bathroom. There is an additional bathroom on the ground floor. The staircase to the first floor leads to two double bedrooms and one bathroom. There are terraces on both the ground and first floors where guests may relax and enjoy the breath taking views.

Outside a stone built cantina is used to store locally produced wine and olive oil. Alfresco dining is highly recommended with a traditional wood fire pizza oven, a barbecue and outdoor seating area on the terrace for guests to enjoy. There is also an outdoor relaxation area with comfortable seating where guests may unwind and enjoy the incredible view.

Ideally located near town and sea, the glamorous resort of Taormina, majestic Mount Etna, the beaches of Marina di Cottone, Giardini Naxos and Isola Bella and il Picciolo Golf Club for golf lovers are only a short drive away. On a practical note, the nearest motorway exit is a 15 minute drive and the nearest airport, Catania is approximately a 45 minute drive. The View, Sicily is quietly and strategically located along a winding and panoramic country road.

Location description from owner

The Sicily region

Sicily is a beautiful island, rich in history, art, cultural and gastronomical heritage. It is a place of contrasts and extremes that hit all of your senses as soon as you arrive, from the blue seas to its most prominent landmark Mount Etna, which at 3,320 m (10,890 ft) is the tallest active volcano in Europe and one of the most active in the world. The wonderful warm climate makes Sicily a perfect destination from March through to November. Winter months can be variable but there are usually plenty of warm sunny days to enjoy. In the higher parts of Sicily in particular on Mount Etna, the winter months can bring heavy snowfall which is good news for ski lovers. Sicily is the largest island and one of the most densely populated in the Mediterranean. Together with the surrounding smaller islands Ustica, the Aegadian islands, the Aeolian islands (comprising two active volcanoes, Stromboli and Vulcano), Pantelleria and the Pelagie islands, Sicily is an autonomous region of Italy. Sicily is strategically placed between North Africa and mainland Italy from which it is separated by the Strait of Messina. The capital of Sicily is Palermo. The famous German writer, artist and politician Johann Wolfgang von Goethe wrote that "To have seen Italy without having seen Sicily is to not have seen Italy at all, for Sicily is the clue to everything". There is so much to see and do here that it is a good idea to divide the island into areas you wish to visit as it is impossible to do it all in one go.

Piedimonte Etneo

The View, Sicily is situated in the foothills of Mount Etna overlooking the Ionian coastline on the east coast of Sicily. It is ideally located so guests can enjoy visiting award winning vineyards in the Etna National Park area, the breathtakingly romantic hilltop towns of Taormina and Castelmola, the stunning beaches of Isola Bella, Giardini Naxos, Letojanni and Marina di Cottone, the icy cold waters of the Alcantara Gorge, the views of Etna Park from the old fashioned train journey La Ferrovia Circumetnea, the traditional seaside towns of Acicastello, Acitrezza and Acireale as well as the vibrant and baroque city of Catania. All this within less than an hour`s drive from the property. For golf lovers Il Picciolo Golf Club is approximately 10km (6.2 miles) by car. Yoga classes, horse riding, excursions, bike hire, cookery lessons, trekking, boat trips, tennis courts and diving are all available locally. Should you wish to visit other areas of the island, the A18 Catania - Messina motorway is approximately 11km by car from the property.
