Location description from owner

The England region

Dorset is a beautiful county to explore either by car, by bicycle or on foot. Enjoy breathtaking views, an abundance of wildlife, historic locations, quirky villages & market towns and a picturesque coastline with some of the finest beaches in the country. From relaxing walks to water sports, there truly is something for everyone.

Piddlehinton

Piddlehinton is a delightful village with its extraordinary name deriving from the river on which it sits – the Piddle. The village is, unsurprisingly, set in an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' and provides a charming base from which to explore stunning Dorset and Hardy's Wessex. Ideally located just 5 miles from the county town of Dorchester and 15 miles from the beaches at Weymouth and the stunning Jurassic Coast, there is plenty to keep you occupied on your holiday.

“Piddlehinton in all its glory”

Reviewed 24 Apr 2014

1 Whites Close is a lovely, cosy bungalow in the beautiful Piddle Valley, an excellent place to explore Thomas Hardy Country from, as it is close to many places that he wrote about and lived in. You will be spoilt for choice by the number of fantastic countryside walks, and it is also not far to the Jurassic Coast and some lovely beaches. The property has been totally refurbished and is decorated in stylish, contemporary colours, with some lovely homely touches, and all the facilities you may need. The owners are very friendly and genuinely want you to thoroughly enjoy your stay; they certainly made us feel special with some very generous welcome goodies! The lay-out worked perfectly for our family of four, and we loved the location. The outdoor space is compact but beautifully maintained, and we were lucky to barbecue in the private back garden due to the amazing Easter weather. The stream running beside the property was also a bonus for the children, who enjoyed watching the fish and looking out for Eric the Eel! The local pubs are worth a visit: we enjoyed authentic Italian pizza in the Piddle Inn, tasty real ales at the Thimble Inn (staggering distance!), and would love to return to the Poachers in the summer to try out their pool! We would definitely return to stay another time, thank you for a very memorable Easter holiday!
