A comfortable and well equipped cottage in the pleasent market town of Pickering situated at the foot of the North York Moors. 17 Hallgarth is a family run business which aims to provide a home from home.

Please note that for 7 night stays our changeover day is Friday. We do offer short breaks and flexibility is sometimes possible so please ask.

The cottage is extremely well equipped with accomodation for up to four people plus two infants in travel cots. We can provide travel cots, stair gates and a high hair on request.

Accomodation consists of a double bedroom on the first floor and a twin room in the attic. There is a well equipped bathroom with both bath and shower and an extremely well equipped kitchen containing a washer/dryer and dishwasher in addition to the usual fridge, freezer, cooker and microwave.

However our guests will also enjoy free unlimited WiFi and a good sized TV and DVD player. There is also a comprehensive library of books and some traditional board games.

The cottage is lucky to have its own private parking space situated at the rear. There is also a charming enclosed garden which is in the traditional cottage style and is a haven for wild birds. Note that the garden does contain some toxic plants and there is a small pond.

Rental includes all gas and electricity, all bedding and towels, unlimited WiFi access and a traditional Yorkshire welcome basket full of locally produced goodies.

17 Hallgarth is a listed cottage so its character must be preserved. It therefore has low beams and doorways, uneven floors and steps. For this reason we regret that our property is not suitable for guests with limited mobility. The garden is a traditional cottage garden which does contain some toxic plants and a small pond.

Pickering is within easy reach of the North York Moors and the coastal towns of Whitby and Scarborough. The town has plenty of independent shops as well as banks, supermarkets and a good selection of places to eat. Pickering is home to the North York Moors railway which run steam and heritage diesel trains throughout the year. There is also a castle and a museum within the town.

House rules

Our main changeover day is Friday although we offer short breaks with flexible changeover days and will always try to accommodate longer stays with a flexible changeover day. If your planned stay does not start on a Friday please send a reservation request. I will reply promptly and do my best to accommodate you.

We are happy to accept guests planning small parties or events but the number of guests staying in the cottage must not exceed the maximum number of 4 plus 2 infants.

“Beautiful cottage, town and people.”

Visited this delightful cottage mid January, everything ran so smoothly from the first contact with the owner, she could not have done more to make our stay welcome. Great convenient location, very quiet road but still only a few minutes walk to shops, restaurants, cafe's and lovely people. We entered the cottage to find a well stocked hamper and essentials within the fridge, everywhere we looked there were thoughtful additions to that of which you would expect, DVD's, CD's, reading material to suit every taste, games and toys. I described this to someone as a template for what we felt a Holiday cottage and all provided should be. If I made any observation, and that's all it would be, I would have opted for a larger bath with hand shower above rather than both shower and bath. Qualifying that last observation it is evident this owner knows far more than I so there must be a reason why the compromise. The owner wasn't banging on the door checking but was always available on the other end of the phone to answer any questions even if that was because we hadn't read the information pack thoroughly, we think she has got it just about right.

Thank you for such a positive review. When I was setting up the cottage I tried very hard to provide all the items that I liked to find in a property based on many years of staying in self catering properties myself. I cater for a diverse range of guests but try hard to provide what each individual group need. I think that it is this flexibility which I would state as a reason for keeping the separate shower and bath. It was already fitted when we bought the cottage and as I felt that it made good use of a challenging space while providing everything needed I saw no reason to change it. That said I am always very happy to have feedback from guests as it is invaluable for me as an owner in order to continue to keep the cottage attractive to the people who stay in it. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and would be delighted to welcome you back.
