Description from owner

Description

Our fabulous, child friendly, 6 bedroom house, at Le Manoir des Granges, comfortably accommodates 12 people. All bedrooms are en-suite, a very popular amenity.

On the ground floor there is a large split level living room with sofas and armchairs. The library area is well stocked with books and a table perfect for games. The large open fireplace provides a homely addition in the Autumn and Winter for log fires.

Outside there are two garden areas providing plenty of space for eating, drinking, swimming and playing games, including our new outdoor table tennis table.

The swimming pool is set in its own private garden area which is safe for small children. The large pool, 12x5m, is surrounded by hedges, wall, fencing and accessed by a locked gate. New thermal pool cover.

An orchard provides apples, pears, cherries and figs as well as our own home grown walnuts - a speciality of the area.

Set in the Vezere Valley, opposite La Roque Saint Christophe fascinating

Location description from owner

The Dordogne region

The land of a thousand chateaux, the Dordogne or Perigord as it was known,is split into four regions named for their natural features; we are situated in the Perigord Noir. Due to its natural beauty and abundance of medieval towns, chateau and villages, the perigord noir is the jewel in the crown of the Dordogne. The Vezere Valley, with its predominance of prehistoric sites, makes this region one of the most visited. The medieval towns of Sarlat, Les Eyzies and the vibrant city of Perigueux and many traditional villages, each with a character of their own, including Domme, Rocamador, Beynac, Le Roque Gageac, Montignac with the famous Lascaux caves and the new Lascaux Internation Centre, makes the region a real sight-seeing experience.

Peyzac-le-Moustier

The small village of Le Moustier derives its name from the prehistoric Mousterian era due to an important skull find there. It has a restaurant and boulangerie which is only 5 mins walk from the house. The property is situated between Montignac and Les Eyzies.

The house is situated opposite Le Roque St Christophe, a site inhabited from prehistoric time until as late as the 16th century. This kilometre long cave makes a very interesting visit, was carved into the rock thousands of years ago, it is lit up at night and makes a spectacular view from the house. Local activities include canoeing and kayaking on the Vezere with starting points at Le Moustier and at different stages along the river, horse riding, tennis, cycle hire. Golf, hot air ballooning, river cruises and more are all within 30 - 40 mins drive.

Getting around

There is no public transport in or around our village but the nearest train station is Les Eyzies, the nearest bus is Montignac. The nearest main train stations are Brive or Perigueux or Sarlat. We highly recommend a car in order to experience the best that the area has to offer.

Interaction with guest

We will be on site, in a different house, to help and advise if you need us. We will meet you on your arrival and be there for your departure. Any problems, light bulb changing, tap dripping, gas not working, we will sort it out. If you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary we can offer to organise things to help you celebrate. If you prefer to just rent the house and enjoy your holiday without our help, we are happy to leave you to it! We will be visible because we do the gardening and some of the laundry.
