“Villa il Santo is the perfect spot to enjoy the beauty of Tuscany in an atmosphere of luxurious comfort .”

Reviewed 26 Apr 2015

Our group of 1l friends, all members of a New Jersey garden club, spent a week at Villa Il Santo in early May 2014. From the moment we arrived we knew we were at a very special place. The ancient building had been renovated sensitively and luxuriously, with stone floors and beamed ceilings amid brick arches. Yet everywhere there seemed to be walls of glass, looking out at the spectacular views of vineyards, olive trees, and green hills in every direction. We had come to Tuscany to visit gardens, and every day we drove out to Florence, Siena, San Gemignano, Fiesole, and Volterra -- all within easy scenic drives. Yet at the end of the day we all looked forward to returning to Il Santo. The superbly equipped kitchen had an enormous island, the perfect place to gather around for wine and cheese that we had picked up that day. It was also where we set up a breakfast buffet each morning of food we had purchased on our arrival. There were generous spaces everywhere in which to relax -- especially the outdoor terraces with their fabulous views. The large dining room accommodated our group perfectly, and there was a similarly large table for outdoor meals. On our first evening we were treated to a wonderful welcome dinner prepared by cook Rosanna, each course a delight. We had 3 more meals at "home" and she surprised us each time by a variety of crostini and other delicious dishes. She gave us a cooking class one day , demonstrating Tiramusu and homemade pasta, We loved it. It was so nice to have owners Anagloria and Enzo living nearby. Not only were they delightful and friendly but they would always come by to answer a question or give us some travel advice. Most especially they set up for us a private musicale, with a wonderful soprano and her accompanist giving us our own operatic performance. We all agreed that the gift of privacy , of having the villa to ourselves was a special ingredient of our stay at Il Santo. I know that my friends and I all have the hope of returning some time, perhaps with our extended family or a group of special friends.

Owner's reply: hi so great to read your review n to know you have fond memories of your stay! this is the best part of our job: to succeed in making our guests feeling at home, their Italian home and experience our life style and country hope to see you soon again annagloria n enzo

“Beautiful villa overlooking the hills of Tuscany”

Reviewed 25 Apr 2015

We stayed at the Villa Il Santo for a week last year and it was glorious. The roses were in bloom all around the villa and we watched the hot air balloons rising in the morning and sunsets in the evening. It was magical. The rooms are modern, as are the bathrooms. It is also spotless. The kitchen was well equipped if you wanted to prepare breakfasts and dinners. They have kept the character of the old villa and made it modern and comfortable. Annagloria arranged to have a chef .come in and prepare meals for us a few nights which was heaven after a busy day touring gardens. She also arranged to have young opera singers to come one night and sing arias. She has thought of everything. You are isolated - there is a nice restaurant a short walk away but you will have to drive otherwise. There were eleven of us so we had two vans and nothing was terribly far.

Owner's reply: HI Suzanne so happy to read your review n that after one year you still have fond memories of your stay. Come back, we now have a garden theatre in our Castellare de sernigi garden where we hold a concert every week for our villas' guests during the summer months, from lyric to classic, to jazz...you will love it! thank you for having chosen our house annagloria n enzo

“Heaven in Tuscany”

Reviewed 25 Apr 2015

From the moment of arrival, even on a rainy day, the magic of Il Santo and the graciousness of our hosts captured us and enveloped us for a week. The setting and villa are spectacular in every detail, easily accommodating 12 ladies in great style. Rosa the cook prepared several meals for us and it is hard to say which one was the best. Her warm nature and infectious smile came through in her cooking from the heart. The evening with the opera singers was something magical with views overlooking San Gigminagno which created a memory of a lifetime. Every detail that Annagloria and Enzo saw to for our group was perfect in every way. If you can book this magical place for a week, do it now!!! Also, allow some time in your itinerary to enjoy the villa gardens and pool.

Owner's reply: Laura sorry I only reply now to your beautiful review! happy to know you enjoyed your experiential stay by us, the food, the singers....come back and you will have new things to see n to taste and to experience!! have a great winter Annagloria

“Best Birthday Ever in A Magical Villa in Tuscany”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2014

If you have to face turning 50, Villa il Santo is a place to do it! From the ease of booking the property to Annagloria’s marvelous suggestions and help with daytime excursions, nothing could have been more perfect. The property is exactly as advertised; and some of us thought it was even BETTER than in the pictures! The remodeled farmhouse is so beautifully appointed in its simple elegance; it's a relaxing oasis to enjoy with great friends. It was my dream to rent a house with a marvelous kitchen for big dinners and a week of fun with a group of wonderful friends for my birthday; I felt so lucky to have found Villa il Santo to make it all a reality! The only complaint was the weather -- as the outdoor space is exquisite and beautifully landscaped with breathtaking views and we had hoped to enjoy that aspect of the house and the countryside. Everything else was perfection. The welcome dinner cooked by the incredible chef Rosanna will always be remembered -- both for its inventive use of local ingredients like salvia from the garden -- to its multiple courses and incredible flavors that we still remember. We asked Rosanna to come back two other nights as it was such fun to enjoy dinner “at home” after the day of activities. After dinner, we would relax in one of the living rooms to chat and laugh. We also arranged for breakfast to be cooked one morning and had an over-the-top meal prepared that kept us fueled for a long day of activities. There was never a lack of wonderful food or wine, which is available at the house (from Annagloria and Enzo’s vineyard) at a very reasonable price per bottle. The house is fairly easy to find (you will need a car, although if you arrive at different times, you can arrange transport to/from Florence easily. Annagloria was so helpful with arranging transportation.) Day/afternoon trips to Florence, Sienna, and San Gimignano were very easy. We even made it to Cortona on a rainy day, which was fun (would be considered far by European standards; not US). Don't over schedule yourself as you will want to enjoy time at the villa. There is plenty of room to relax. With the three living rooms, there is always a place to escape for quiet and they are big enough for everyone to enjoy one another’s company. Of course, consistent with all the best parties, we usually gathered in the kitchen! I will never forget the magical week we spent at Villa il Santo and look forward to going back. Annagloria and Enzo are marvelous hosts. If you want to spend time with family or great friends and be in the heart of Tuscany, consider Villa il Santo; you will not be disappointed.

Owner's reply: HI what a review!!! thank! so happy to know you enjoyed your birthday n than you sooo much for the nice words it makes us happy to have our guests keeping fond memories of their stay by us. great description of the house n the location....may I use them for my site??? have a great year after a great birthday!! hope to see you soon again annagloria

“Perfect location for culture and cuisine”

Reviewed 26 May 2014

Villa Il Santo is centrally located between Florence and Siena with easy excursions in an around Tuscany and Chianti. We made easy day trips north to Pisa and Lucca and to San Gimignano. The proprietors, Enzo and Annagloria, are superb! They helped coordinate our outings if we asked and pointed us toward sights we hadn't considered. And on top of it all, they were wonderful company. The villa itself is spectacular and the accommodations could not have been more comfortable. The kitchen is lovely and large and made us want to visit local markets and come home and cook. The bedrooms and baths are luxurious and there are numerous gatherings spots throughout the villa, inside and out, where we could enjoy some quiet isolation or all convene to share the company of our group of eight travelers. This is a place we plan to return to - over and over again.

“So this is what spectacular is”

Reviewed 22 May 2014

Villa Il Santo is a beautiful property with the interior meticulously restored for modern comfort and views that are breathtaking whether the vines are soaked with sun or the low clouds are hanging over the valley holding in the morning dew. Annagloria and Enzo created a truly special place, and the supporting cast, including Rosanna the cook or the daily cleaning crew, our needs were always met. This villa is special in so many ways and the only thing bad was that the week went by too fast.

Owner's reply: HI thank you for your nice review regarding your stay in our villa Il Santo you made our hearts happy by reading your nice comments hope to see you soon again annagloria

“A Gem in Tuscany”

Reviewed 8 Aug 2013

We have stayed at Villa Il Santo twice now and have found it to be an absolutely splendid villa. It is centrally located, yet private, with beautiful views toward San Gimignano. The charm of an historic building is matched by the quality of its recent renovation. It has good gathering spaces, yet everyone can have privacy when they want it. Bedrooms and baths (all en suite) are first-rate, and the kitchen is a cook's delight. The pictures are great, but even they don't do it justice. Most of all, Annagloria and Enzo (the owners) go out of their way to make your stay special indeed, and can arrange virtually anything a group would want to do. Simply put, this is the best villa we have found since we started using villas in Italy about 12 years ago. You can't go wrong with this one.

“Perfect Retreat”

Reviewed 7 Aug 2013

The villa was the perfect location and setting to wrap up our visit to Italy. We travelled with our parents and children and another group of friends. An ideal arrangement for group fun as well as enough space when you wanted some alone time. Great location between Sienna and Florence. Enzo and Anngloria were gracious hosts and helped as much or as little as we requested - Roseanna's cooking was amazing and is a must! We plan to return with friends.

Owner's reply: HI thank you for you nice words can't wait to have you back to suggest you some new experiences, hidden little magic hamlets to discover...waiting for you to be back!! annagloria

“Our Wedding In Italy - Made even better by Il Santo”

Reviewed 8 May 2013

We stayed at the Villa in May 2013 whilst we were getting married. Everything about the Villa is spectacular, the pictures on the Internet are amazing but cannot do the experience of staying at the Villa justice. This place is amazing. The owners, Annagloria and Enzo are also fantastic. Helped plan details of our stay well in advance and were very accommodating. I would recommend anyone wanting a real taste of Tuscany should stay here.

Owner's reply: HI Daniel it has been such a pleasure to have you both and your wonderfull families I had a lot of fun preparing the surprise for your wife n to see how happy you all were....thank you for having selected our house for such an event n really hope to see you next year for the anniversary! wishing you all the love n the best Annagloria n Enzo
