“An Idyllic Setting”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2014

This is the second time we have stayed here, this time we had the larger house with the pool. Sylvia and Sergio were most welcoming and gave us lots of suggestions of what to do and where to go in the area. The surroundings of the houses is beautiful - a real get away! The accommodation is rustic and charming, we love it. The larger house has a pool, outdoor dining under the vines, a table tennis table and basketball net. If you want to stay here and see some of Tuscany/Italy then you do need a car to get about although the train station at Pescia is very good if you don't want to drive all the time.

“Go here if you want complete peace and quiet and are happy with clean, basic surroundings which offer all you need.”

We loved it at Il Melograno. It is situated in a tiny hamlet called Veneri, about 4 km west of Pescia - 18 km east of Lucca. We were literally in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by green, birdsong and the scent of jasmine. The property has a 'dip pool' - you can get wet but not really swim, which was fine by us! The couple who own it were very kind, brought us local wine and met us at the church in Veneri to take us to the property, which we would never have found otherwise. The two double bedrooms in the house were both huge, as were the bathroom and the sitting room - all had red tiled floors. The kitchen, which was the room you walk into, was adequate and really it was here that we felt things could be improved. There was an oilcloth on the table which had several small rips and tears in it, which doesn't give the best first impression. The mats provided were well used plastic ones - again, functional but easily replaced and would make a real, if small, difference. The sink was in the corner with only a small ledge to put dirty dishes on beside it (there was small draining board to the right of the sink) - not really a problem with only two of us but would be tricky with 4, and it was all too dimly lit. Everything was very clean although again, we had old sheets on the bed and one of the pillow cases had a hole in it - hardly the end of the world but perhaps worth looking at! Having said all of that, it was incredible value and we absolutely loved it. There is an excellent supermarket in Pescia, It was easy to get about ( a car is essential) and Lucca is a half hour car journey away and is a stunning place, as is Pistoia - further away to the east but a must-visit. We went to Florence twice by train - an hour's journey, very straightforward, and we started off and finished up in Pisa, which is an extraordinary city and a must see. Offering any criticism feels like a serious case of nit-picking. Il Melograno was a haven as far as we were concerned and we spent at least 4 days out of the fortnight just hanging about reading and lapping up the peace. It is not luxurious but it has all anyone could ever want or need. A couple of tweaks would make it even more desirable!

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind review, I have only two things to replicate: before focusing on the small holes of the tablecloth or a small tear on the pillow (sorry, the laundry is not so old, I buy new all the time, but I'm sure it's very clean), I would very much like a person reflect on really low price that we practice. I can gladly provide luxury linens and everything else, but I'd have to quadruple the price of rent. For this reason, there are always five-star hotels. My husband and I are always at your disposal 24h-24h, if there are any complaints it would be better riferircele directly. I'm sorry that our guest has not mentioned the extra services that we offered free, such as usb stick for internet and the final disposal of dozens of bottles and waste that has left us in the house.

“Villa Molendi--our home away from home”

Reviewed 25 May 2013

We (2 couples) rented Villa Molendi for 4 nights, and wish we could have stayed longer. Silvia and Sergio was so helpful and friendly, and they went out of their way to assist us any way they could. You do need a vehicle, but it's very easy to find your way around. The villa was well equipped, and we felt at home right away. The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfy, the showers worked well, and everything we needed was availalble. The villa was very clean, and it was easy to keep it that way. It was nice to be able to wash our clothes; clothes line and a drying rack are available. The fresh vegetables and their own olive oil from the farml were delicious, and there's an excellent supermarket close by (Esselunga in Pescia) for food and wine! We didn't have a chance to get to any local markets, but they are available. We enjoyed some excellent meals at the villa, and it was lovely to relax outside with a glass of wine and enjoy the view, after a long day of sightseeing. The views from the villa were beautiful--nature and hill towns, and it was easy to get to Lucca, Pisa, Cinque Terre, Florence and where-ever we wanted to explore. Sergio was a huge help when we had a flat tire and needed to buy a new one--he got the tire ordered for us, at the best price, and made sure we were able to get it fixed as quickly as possible. Silvia and Sergio provide a lot of local information (places to see and things to do), and can help you find anything else that you need.
