Description from owner

Description

A luxurious retreat in the heart of the Minervois, this traditional French Manoir is available to let on a self-catering basis throughout the year and sleeps up to 12 people in 6 huge double or twin bedrooms - four with en-suite facilities, and the other two with their own shower rooms. The château style house, furnished with a mixture of antiques and modern luxury, has its own private heated swimming pool open April to sept (maybe longer if weather allows) in a large south facing courtyard garden enjoying total peace and quiet..

Situated on the edge of Pepieux, it enjoys all the benefits of a typical French village including a boulangerie, general store, cave, pizza restaurant/takeaway and bar and yet provides peace and quiet and stunning views over the vineyards and Montagne Noir. The Minervois is famous for its wine and the wine produced at the cave in Pepieux supports this reputation! (But don't take my word for it, come and experience it first hand).

Location description from owner

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

There is something for everyone in the Languedoc Roussillon region and all attractions are easily accessible from Manoir Theron.

The closest beach at Narbonne is about 30 minutes drive away and goes on for as far as the eye can see (about 4 miles). Other beaches then stretch east to Valras, Cap d'Agde, Marseillan all the way to Montpellier and beyond. Each has its personality from just sea and sand to more developed resorts. Going in the other direction, the coastline towards Perpignan provides equally spectacular beaches.

Carcassonne and its medieval cite has to be seen to be believed. The whole region is steeped in Cathar history with many sites and mysteries. (Suggested reading Labyrinth by Katie Mosse and Da Vinci code by Dan Brown)

The Canal du Midi, now a Unesco World heritage site, is just 6km away with walking, cycling or boat hire. Follow Rick Stein's voyage in Anjodi.

Perpignan, Bezier, Narbonne and Montpellier are the closest cities. Barcelona and Spain is about 2.5 hours drive for those of you that are adventurous. The mountains of the Pyrenees are to the south accessible for skiing in the winter and the beautiful Montagnes Noir are just north of Pepieux.

Pepieux

Pepieux is a village in the middle of the vineyards but has the advantage of local shops and other facilities. There is a tennis court 100yds away and the main centre of the village is only 3 minutes walk.

In the village is a baker selling delicious pastries, fresh bread and great for those croissants first thing in the morning. There is a small general store, a post office, hairdressers, pharmacy, tabac and a gift shop. The bar is very 'french' serving great food in a relaxed atmosphere. But don't expect a choice and practise your French.

The cave co-operative is just off the village centre and sells excellent wine made from a mixture of the local grapes. You can buy it by the bottle or take any container for them to fill. And you won't believe the prices.

Olonzac, at about 3 km, has a supermarket, and for all other shopping needs try the local cities of Narbonne, Carcassonne and Beziers. Many of the local villages have a market

Lac du Jourres, just 5 minutes drive away, has fishing, sailing, other water sports and swimming from its own beach which is manned by a lifeguard in summer. There is also a restaurant there.

Wine tasting, enjoying the many and varied grapes grown in the area direct from the Domaines. We can organise a range of wine tasting experiences for your party from speed tasting, to give you a flavour of the Languedoc wines, right through to a course giving you a professional qualification. Just ask for details when you book.

“You must visit this gorgeous house”

Reviewed 17 Jul 2016

The manoir is even better than the photos. It is light, airy and spacious and our party of three generations all got what we were hoping for from our holiday- time together but also our own space, and lots of It! Fabulous well equipped kitchen and lovely bathrooms, very well stocked playroom, the list goes on. Rebekah and Richard have thought of everything and are perfect hosts. Not sure it was them who arranged for the Tour de France to almost go past the door, or the village feast for Bastille Day, to coincide with our visit but I wouldn't be surprised! The pool was a great sucess with the kids (young and old) - the 5 year old was swimming confidently by the end of the week and the 4 year old was racing round with his waterwings. It can be covered so completely safe as well. We are definitely coming back to explore more of this lovely region and to enjoy more relaxation ations the manoir.

Thank-you for your review. We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay and of course will have a word with the tour organisers for your next stay .

“Manoir Theron, a comfortable haven in Pepieux, southern France”

Reviewed 25 Sep 2014

Manoir Theron provides a spacious comfortable haven away from the hastle of city life. It's not isolated, being located in the village of Pepieux, with all the essentials available including daily fresh baked bread, and with the bonus of just a 20 minute drive to nearby Relais Chantovent, a superb restaurant situated in the medieval town of Minerve, both items not to be missed. The manoir itself with its 6 huge bedrooms, is located in the heart of Minervois, an area renown for its wine production, and a bonus is that Carcassonne is but a short ride away. Even Narbonne with its TGV rail connections is just 40 mins away. The property provides all the space & facilities required for a satisfying stay for up to 12 people.

“Excellent property for up to 12 people, great location for relaxing and exploring”

Reviewed 13 Sep 2014

The property was exactly what we hoped it would be, typically French Manoir. It's large rooms, high quality bathrooms, well equipped kitchen, games room and pool. 11 of us has plenty of space, and could eat together at either of the tables outside on the patio, or in the dining room. This offered the perfect opportunity for relaxing and exploring. The owners Rebekah and Robert left a superb welcome pack for our arrival. They visited daily to clean the pool and patio, they where very friendly to chat with and offer local information. The area has much to offer, all within about an hours drive, with many excellent vineyards to visit. We enjoyed a boat trip on the Canal Du Midi leaving from nearby Homps. Narbonne had several excellent museums and galleries (the day pass for 9 euros is well worth purchasing) The abbey is a Must. The undercover market offers much to tempt. We spent an excellent day on a guided wine tour - collected from the manor by mini bus - no arguments over who could drink ! As well as visiting to vineyards with wine tasting the day included a visit to a local market, an excellent three course lunch, and wine tasting ! it finished with time in Minerve, we were then returned to the Manoir at the end of our day, our guide for the day had excellent knowledge of the area and the vineyards and wines we sampled, this was a highlight of our holiday, and we revisited some of the locations.

“A wonderful place to explore the area or just chill.”

Reviewed 12 Aug 2014

We have just had a great two weeks at the Manoir Theron. It is a beautiful house and the rooms are large and airy, with super bathrooms and shower rooms. The kitchen is very well equipped and very user friendly. We spent some of the time getting to know the area visiting various villages and vineyards and some reasonable restaurants. We had a very good day with vinenvacances a brilliant company doing guided wine tours and lunch, well worth booking. The pool is beautiful although somewhat smaller than it appears in the photos. It was fine for our needs but teenagers and children might find the size rather restrictive. Richard and Rebekha are very welcoming and extremely helpful. A very lovely place to spend a couple of weeks, thank you!

“Fantastic Manoir and excellent facilities”

Reviewed 15 Jun 2014

We stayed at the Manoir with 6 friends and the comfort and facilities were excellent. So much room, not just downstairs but in all the bedrooms. Traditional building but all modern facilities including roomy en-suite bathrooms. The local village was a little disappointing regarding restaurants and bars but Olanzac was a couple of kilometres away which had it's fair share of both. Lovely area to explore on foot or hiring bikes.Try the "Minervois" restaurant in Olanzac which is first class.

“Luxurious, immaculate large Manoir.”

Reviewed 2 Jun 2014

Wonderful, exceptionally well presented large manor house, in the very pretty village of Pepieux. We were a party of eight and had so much room, you've never seen such large bedrooms and en suites! Great outside area with a daily maintained swimming pool, unfortunately the weather prevented us from using this daily. Large bar-b-q and ouside dining area, would be great for summer evenings. Very easy for self catering as the kitchen was extremely well stocked. The owners Richard and Rebekah could not have been more helpful. The only negative comment is that the village bar/restaurant was dire! Although there was a good Pizzeria and excellent bakery. Therefore the nearest restaurants were in Siran 1.5 kms or Olonzac 4.5kms. Good market in Olonzac, once a week. If you are looking for a luxurious house to celebrate something special with a group of friends, this is it!

“perfect place”

Reviewed 27 Apr 2014

Where to start? Ok the village of Pepieux is very pretty the wine co-op is close and you are surrounded by vines. Manoir Theron was simply a revelation. Wonderfully spacious with huge (and I mean huge) rooms and fantastic bathrooms. There's a large dining room with table that makes dinner feel like a grand occasion and the equivalent dining table outside as well with an excellent gas BBQ. The living room has some big sofas and the kitchen is really well equipped. It's a sign of a really good rental that there was decent cooking utensils, good knives etc and quality glasses. The pool is quite small but very clean and well maintained. I would not hesitate to recommend this house of a large family group or bunch of friends who want to stay somewhere comfortable and genuinely quite grand without being ostentatious. As an added bonus this part of the Minervois is fabulously beautiful and the wine is most excellent. Oh, and the owner Rebekah is a delight and could not have made us feel more relaxed or welcome. This place exceeded expectations in all departments!

“Words are inadequate!”

Reviewed 21 Sep 2013

The Manoir is simply luxurious - a fantastic place to stay. Every need is catered for and the 'welcome pack' (which included wine!) was a godsend when we arrived after our long journey. Rebekah and Richard have thought of everything to make your stay a comfortable one. We enjoyed 'chilling' by the pool and the walk to the boulangerie for the breakfast croissants. It was a lovely area to explore and the weather was very kind to us. We wanted something special to share with our family to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary - and we got it and more!
